Yes it can be used as a Time Capsule. Pretty easy to setup once placed on the network.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it can be used, BUT you will need to reformat the drive to the Apple GUID partition and format for best performance before use. It can also be formatted as "exFat" for cross platform transfer, however, that will not allow you to use it as a backup with time machine. In the NTFS format the drive comes in you will only be able to read files from the drive unless you add a NTFS helper app which will also not allow for maximum disk performance. That said the WD Mac versions come pre-formatted for MacOS and therefore are plug and play for TimeMachine.
