“Does the control pad have a solid surface, or a plastic cover over the controls? I ask because the GE Profile unit I want to replace has a peeling cover over the controls, and moisture has compromised the controls.”

The control pad has solid surface. We got it to replace a previous model (which did not malfunction in any way) that we had for 14 years and never experienced any difficulty with the control pad which had similar construction.
