I have a Samsung Curved 4k and I can select external speakers in the TV setup menu. I would think you can do the same with your Sony. I haven't noticed the amp being too quiet.....I just raise the volume till I like it. Sorry I haven't noticed how far it is up, but I do know I can get the house shaking if I go too far, without distortion. Hope this helps.
