“does the receiver automatically decide what decoder to use? my old pioneer allowed me to control the decoder process, when i play music, i want control over that, if i want to switch from dolby pro to prologic 2, do i have total control of this AV unit?”

The AV controller app is great for changing the decoder on your smartphone, or you can program a scene for a connection into memory.

Please try again later.i can tell you are from yamaha, you wont come out and say, no, you cant change the decoder, you maintain the "scene" can be changed, your "Scenes" are just little useless echo chambers, i had NO control over the decoder even when playing my music which was huge to me...so i took it back and went home with an onkyo which blows the yamaha away in all catagories
