So much potential, hampered by three small issues

I want to take a moment to share some thought I have regarding this Zephyrus G14 that I ultimately returned. First, I am impressed that Asus could fit so much technology and good stuff into a small package, but it comes at a sacrifice that makes it a less than ideal laptop (at least for me). This three items I am about to list might be nits for some, but for me that are deal breakers for a laptop that retails at $1600 (but I got on sale). There are enough reviews out there that expound on how good the display is (yes, it is that good), how good the audio is (yes, amazing), the great keyboard, great trackpad, and the power inside. However, I want to focus on the three things that turned me off on this laptop. First, the USB4 port is not really a fully functional USB4 port. USB4 spec says it should work with a Thunderbolt 3/4 port. However, this laptop (with latest drivers and BIOS) will not connect using to a Thunderbolt dock properly. I checked on Reddit and forums and this is a known issue for the Zephyrus laptops that is not addressed at all. This is not an across the board issue with Asus as the Zenbook S16 and Vivobook S16 (both AMD 370 HX chips) work properly with Thunderbolt docks. So, this can't be used at work correctly for me. Second, the heat. I am able to keep the temps down with the use of GHelper by limiting the TDP and turning off CPU Boost (which is not really needed for day to day work and gaming). (Brief aside: I wish Windows would do a better job of deciding when it really needs to CPU boost as it does it too often and causes power and temp spikes) While using the laptop connected to another USB 3 PD/DP dock, my temps remained in the mid 40's generally, but the rest of the chassis and keyboard just felt warm to the touch. It seems like this model tries to use the entire chassis as a heat sink and that really is not ideal as it is distracting when typing and doing work. It never burned because temps were so low, but it was warm enough to be distracting. I have used other laptops and did not have this issue with them. Finally, the middle fan's high pitched noise. Even though I was below the fan curve settings I had for the fans to kick on, they still had to occasionally to keep the system cool. The fans were effective and never did I get really hot. However, the middle fan's acoustics are annoying and distracting. There is a high pitched sound coming out of it that is noticeable in a quiet environment and just distracts from doing work. So in summary, yes it is a great laptop on paper (if bought on sale) and has lots of potential, but just be aware of how you will use it and what your use case is. I wanted to use this as a travel laptop for work due to size and the fact I could still game at night with it. However, the three items above made it impossible to keep. Perhaps Asus could address this in the USB4 issue in the future with a BIOS/driver update and in the next model of the Zephyrus use a vapor chamber and improve heat dissipation to deal with items two and three. As of this moment, I plan to steer clear of the Zephyrus line until the issues are fixed. Just wanted to share my two cents on this laptop with the general audience.

      Dear SMart8711,

      Thank you for your comment.

We certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are experiencing issues with this laptop. Regarding the USB 4 port not recongnizing your Thunderbolt Dock. The USB4 port on this laptop supports DisplayPort and power delivery only, Thunderbolt support is not implemented. About your concern on the excessive heat, this is normal that excessive heat is generated while the laptop is under heavy load. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full throttle. Please ensure the air ventilation is free from obstructions to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. Furthermore, check in the Task Manager for resource-hungry applications, processes and services that are running in the background and disable them if not being used. Running these applications simultaneously will certainly spike the temperature and will cause an auto-reboot, or an auto restart. The heat or temperature does decrease or normalize once system resource utilization goes down. Your concern about the high-pitch noise or coil whine is common with high-performance GPU. It is simply the vibration of the coil in an inductor as the power passes through it. It happens when a lot of power is passing through sensitive electronic components (inductor or capacitor), causing them to rapidly vibrate from the power surge. To decrease or minimize the noise, we recommend reducing the GPU speed or reconfiguring your video or game settings without compromising the video or game display quality.

Incredible laptop if you want it for work and want the extra horsepower of the GPU occasionally. Very thin for a gaming laptop (0.02 inch thicker than a macbook$ and build quality is excellent. The OLED 120hz display is the best part about it and the speakers are excellent too. The battery life isn’t MacBook levels but it’s enough to get me through the day. Best laptop I’ve owned by far.

It's an excellent little gaming laptop. It runs everything I throw at it decently. It does get kinda hot and I wish the fingerprint was back instead of facial recognition. Otherwise, it's perfect for my needs. OLED display is amazing, everything looks great on that screen.

This is such a beautifully built laptop for gaming on the go. It is very light. Has an excellent keyboard for typing. Has OLED and 120hz and 3k resolution. The RTX 4060 is a decent graphics card for high end gaming. The speakers are very loud. The trackpad feel nice. If you are looking for a on the go gaming laptop that will also be great for work, I would consider this.

Excellent Gaming Laptop, Lightweight laptop, quick processing with great graphics. Battery lasts a couple of hours when gaming and not plugged in. When not gaming, battery life can last 6 hours or more depending on battery saving settings. The speakers on this laptop are also phenomenal, great sound quality. 11/10 recommend, this laptop is tremendous.

I got this gaming laptop so I can play Sims 4 and it works great on this laptop. I was worried about my laptop overheating while playing this type of game, but it runs seamlessly and doesn't get even close to high temps. The display is also beautiful on this laptop. I am very happy I made this purchase and would recommend this laptop to anyone who has a budget, but wants a good laptop for gaming.

This laptop is a beast in a sleek, portable body. The OLED screen is absolutely gorgeous—vibrant, sharp, and smooth at 120Hz. It handles AAA games and multitasking like a champ. Whether you’re gaming or creating content, this machine does not disappoint. Plus, it just looks cool.

I love the display (really wonderful colors), size is perfect for me, the keyboard is elegant, the design is nice, speakers are awesome, BUT I'd like to have 32GB RAM, and of course sadly battery life is not enought :( But it's a great product. I highly recommend if you find this in discount.

Amazing l, using it for school work, and is great so far, one thing since it’s a gaming laptop it does over heat, that’s one of my concerns but so far everything good, it responds fast when searching things up, the graphics are amazing for it to be a slim laptop, very portable and comfy to walk around school, it’s not heavy and has this cool feature in the back that it starts to blink when ever the battery dies, cool tbh

This laptop by far has been the best laptop I have ever purchased. Best investment ever!!!! It’s super fast, light weight, easy to carry while running to my classes. Great quality as in the graphics and watching movies. Easy to find my midterm papers. Was able to contact geek squad and they helped me recover my deleted/lost final paper for college. They are a life saver!!! Can’t complain about anything on this laptop. Has everything you need. Highly recommended.

I sought out a lightly used G14 from 2023 since you can add 1 SO-DIMM to expand memory capacity. I also tried out a 2024 model with soldered memory. Beautiful OLED displays, segment-leading performance, highly recommend uninstalling the Asus software for GHelper. My biggest gripes with the Zephyrus lineup is how hot and loud they run (keyboard gets too hot to the touch) and they're a bit too flashy looking. LEDs on the lid are a bit much. If I didn't want a touchscreen, I'd look for a lightly used 2023 model for under $900.

    Compact and Powerful Gaming Laptop

The laptop, for only being 14 inches, is quite powerful and has slim bezels, which makes the screen not feel too small. It does everything that I need it to do and allows me to game. Even though there is only 16gbs of ram, it plays all the titles that I want it to. Installing G helper also helps with the limited RAM, as it removes a bunch of bloatware. If you are sensitive to heat, I would probably recommend getting a G16 due to the G14 getting hotter more easily because of its form factor. Overall, it is a great compact laptop with a beautiful display that I have no regrets purchasing.

I recently purchased the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) model, and I couldn't be more impressed. Right out of the box, this laptop feels premium—lightweight, solid build, and the 14" 3K OLED display is absolutely stunning. The 120Hz refresh rate makes everything from gaming to everyday browsing incredibly smooth, and the colors are vibrant with deep blacks, perfect for both gaming and media consumption. Performance-wise, the Ryzen 9 8945HS paired with the RTX 4060 handles AAA titles at high settings with ease, and the thermals stay in check even during long sessions. Load times are nearly instant thanks to the 1TB SSD, and the 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM handles multitasking without any hiccups. Despite being so powerful, it's surprisingly quiet under normal use and only ramps up under heavy load.

After a recent update, I initially had some issues with Bluetooth connectivity, but that seems to have been resolved with the latest patch. The laptop performs really well overall, but I’ve noticed it tends to get a bit warm during heavy usage. I understand this is a gaming laptop, but the heating could still be slightly better managed. Otherwise, great performance and build quality.

I love my laptop very much. I have been using it since I got in October 2024. So far everything this is good. The best part I love about my laptop is its size which is perfect for me G14 btw. Also software wise running excellent. And I am an engineering student so iykyk there are software like AutoCAD civil3D revit solid works which I use daily is running really good. The reason I got this laptop and which is valid for all my heavy works. I like the whitish color looks super premium as well it is. I will 100% recommend this for students like me with heavy software where MacBooks are not even an option.

The G14 2024 model features a redesigned chassis that is thinner and lighter than its predecessors, enhancing its portability without sacrificing durability. The laptop's sleek and elegant appearance is complemented by an OLED display, which provides vibrant colors and deep blacks thanks to its DisplayHDR True Black 500 rating. The OLED panel also boasts a fast response time of 0.2 ms and a 120Hz refresh rate, making it ideal for gaming
