Unfortunately, the 3DR Solo does not come with this part or the camera like the DJI Phantom. That being said, I already had a GoPro, so I justified picking a Solo quad-copter from best buy over the DJI copter. The Solo is cool to fly with the fixed mount, but when it comes to changing camera angles and steady shooting, the gimbal is probably the best investment you can make for your "drone." Flying with the included fixed mount is a major pain and leaves you with very shaky video footage and fuzzy pictures. It works fine for FPV flying, but does narrow down how much you can actually do with your Solo since you physically have to land in order make all the adjustments yourself. That is not the case with the 3DR Gimbal... Apart from the quality of the video, the pilot can also adjust the angle of the camera while in flight. It is nice to be able to move the camera up and down and see what may be in front of, or below you before proceeding. It also allows for movie-quality shots to be acquired because it so dang SMOOTH. In flight, and when viewing the video afterwards, you would think it was a totally different camera! It really is a night and day difference... I can't upload video, so I am going to upload a couple screen shots so you can see the possibilities you have when you own a quad-copter.

took me a month to buy this after the drone itself. but its a huge difference the video can be shot in high winds with good control of camera during smart shots. just check out the video on you tube of how smooth my gimbal can shoot. search youtube . fire island smart shots by yadher

Totally changes the camera /cinematography - pro videos now, stable in wind and when changing direction - up down pan/tilt is very precise, indicated by degree angle on controller screen - gimbal also allows inflight changing of all camera settings / swapping from high res photo to video, etc., I'd also add a sun filter kit to your GoPro Hero (which works fine with the gimbal - no additional weight balance needed)

I love the gimbal and I love getting shots of amazing things in the beautifully smooth manor in which it glides across the horizon. I just wish I could fly for more than 15 minutes with the increase in weight:(

After installing the solo gimbal on my 3dr solo,the video was smooth and it eliminated the vibrations

I don't know why this item is sold separately from the 3DR. It really keeps your shots steady.

The SOLO Gimbal is a must have. The SOLO Quad is refined and well thought out. Yes, 3DR has moved slower than promised in development and delivery of product. From experience, I know this can happen when developing a new market. For sure.... the gimbal is amazingly smooth, coupling it with the quad it's great to fly for filming. I would recommend this system for a newby and RC savvy pilots. I've flown and own many RC platforms for more than 30 years and I have to say.... the "Hold/Pause" button on the controller is absolutely genius. I use this button for filming in tight spots and gathering the craft when in sticky situations. Performance of the Gimbal is really smooth. And I’m expecting more with firmware updates from 3DR in the near future.

Absolute must for smooth video footage. Allows camera to be tilted gently from 0 to 90 degree. Installation was a breeze. Just be careful not to bend or break the micro HDMI cable. The included screwdriver is rubish but I used it. Gimbal workes well with Hero 4 silver with ballancing weights and Hero 4 Black w/o weights. I was advised to get another one just in case I break this one during a rough landing. So I did :)

Great product, most of the time. Easy ti install. Works well with graphic interface on radio. Every once in a while (every 7th flight, for a few seconds) the gimbal loses vertical power signal and points up, then regains signal and returns to correct position. I will say the video recorded now is SO much smoother. The difference is night and day with or without it. A must buy for Solo owners.

This makes a complete package for the Solo. The gimbal installs easily, works flawlessly, and provides a wonderfully stable video. With updates coming directly from 3Dr the gimbal is having features unlocked on a daily basis. Features like direct video link down to your tablet or phone, ability to set angles of your shots directly from the controller, start and stop recording to your tablet or phone. 1000's of other users sharing their videos and experiences make this a goto product!

The Solo Gimbal is a great piece of equipment and almost a must for the 3DR Solo if you want amazingly stable video. It works amazing and is able to capture video that is borderline professional. The only problem I have ever had is when I wouldn't initialize it properly, meaning I moved it while it was starting up but other than that it has worked flawless. It is also good to note that it just keeps getting better and better with each subsequent software update that 3DR releases. And that goes for the Solo itself as well, keep it up 3DR!

This gimbal should be considered a requirement if you want to do video with the Solo. It does a GREAT job smoothing out the jitters and movement of the copter, so your videos look amazingly stable and smooth. Slightly fussy to install (to get the wiring tucked in correctly), but once in, worked flawlessly. Be aware that you will need your GoPro camera mounted on this every time you fly, even if not taking video or photos, as it needs the camera there to balance the gimbal.

this is a great drone. first time drone user and I am very impressed. it's very easy to setup and it's very easy to fly. the battery drains quickly so i would get a few extra batteries. doesn't have obstacle avoidance but for the price you can't get a better deal. the company is moving out from consumers drones but will still honor the warranty. down side you need to buy a camera for this and it uses a go pro 3+ or 4 . the go pro 5 won't work.

The gimbal is now included in the package of the Solo so make sure to check that before buying this separately. The gimbal is a must have because I've seen footage without it and it's rough. The gimbal provides really smooth video quality and it will work when the drone is on. Which means you can hand hold the drone and it'll act as a 3 axis gimbal for stable GoPro footage!

This is a must have for stable filming. Was very easy to install and works flawlessly with my Hero 4 silver. Even while making abrupt movements the shots still look phenomenal. Having the added bonus of being able to change the up/down angle of the camera makes this add on a no brainer.

Pretty simple installation. Just remember to take out the foam block b4 flight :) . Connects to the app video works within line of sight almost half a mile I didn't take it to the edge. Only issue is the app force closed some time had to stop and reconnect a few times but the footage is very stable

If you have the 3DR Solo, you NEED this if you plan on producing any decent videos. Sure, you can fly around and take pictures, but if you want video, you really need the stability that this gimbal provides. No other company makes it, so this is what you want. Also, this last month they dropped the price from $400 to $300, so if you have a Solo, buying this is a no brainer.
