Undervolting the cpu will get it cooler, but this machine gives great fps in all modern games and ought to perform well for several years to come straight out of the box. I would suggest at least a laptop stand with a good fan. One other issue is that you may want to use an externally powered usb-c hub through the rear port as 3 usb ports aren't enough.

The upgraded graphics card is amazing looks like I’m playing my Xbox series x system. The color change features for everything including the mouse is really cool as well. I bought a open box unit and it looked like it had never been used before. Great all around lap top I’m definitely happy with this one over another Apple MacBook.

Unsure about the battery life but I usually always have it plugged in though wish it did last a little longer on battery

Best Buy botched my shipping. Paid extra for express delivery. A shipping label was created and it didn't leave the building for a couple of days causing it to arrive on the same day as standard shipping. Had to call in to request a refund of my shipping cost for that.

Thermals are sensitive, you can make a profile for it with the Alienware conmand center however, at times you will need to adjust the fan speeds to prevent overheating. Overheating can happen quickly when gaming and the computer is not set to at least performance mode. Enjoy the colors.

I have been playing every game on ultra setting without a hiccup, crash or lag. I have it connected via Ethernet and it has been perfect! I would definitely buy this laptop again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a laptop in this price range.

Having it on a cooling pad keeps the entire system under 70c while playing any of the latest games. 3070 is a 140w tdp as well, very powerful and not lower specced like nearly every other laptop on the market.

Sure, it's a Dell, but spec for spec you aren't going to beat it today from another company. I was skeptical, I picked one up thinking "Okay, if it isn't as great as it seems on paper, I have 45 days" and so far I'm really liking it. Doesn't get too hot, isn't too noisy, much slimmer and lighter than my previous MSI GT73VR while outperforming it (Which, you know, it had better since the previous laptop was a late 2016/early 2017 model) The only real complaint about it is the same that all "gaming laptops" get, the battery life just isn't great, even when not gaming. Fortunately I bought this for more "I have multiple locations I need to be at a desk for long hours" versus "I may need to use this where there is no power available" situations.

The battery doesn't last enough, it's too heavy, and it gets hot with little use.

• To tune your system, go to Alienware Command Center and select out of 4 different thermal profiles that will help you manage system temperatures as well as performance output to your preference. These include Cool, Quiet, Balanced, and Performance thermal profiles.
• Our Alienware m17 follows 8th and 9th generation Intel performance design guidelines, which can lead CPU temperatures to reach 100°C to output top in-game performance.
• We fully warrant the product under these conditions. If you see CPU temperatures rising beyond 100°C on Alienware Command Center, please contact support and they will take care of your issue - https://dell.to/2Inbc8F.

Great Machine for Pool Design Software

This is a fast and attractive looking device. The 3D pool design S/W had no issues running on this machine. I would highly recommend this device, and the price was very reasonable.
