It took me so long to finally watch this movie and I was not disappointed. Definitely worth a watch if you love 80's Halloween/Horror/Thriller movies. So happy I was able to grab this on Steelbook.

This is a absolute classic. It’s my first time owning this, and haven’t seen it in a while. Looks fantastic on Blu-ray and the SteelBook is awesome!

Until 4K, this IS the standard for AWIL

To begin, I'm an owner of both this restored edition and Universal's prior AWIL blu ray release, the "Full Moon Edition". While the AWIL:FME had a solid picture, it was the 2+ hours that solidified it as the premium version to own. With the newest version, a supervised restoration by John Landis that has ported over all the extras that made Full Moon so desirable, it has made the FME the victim of a silver bullet. The question becomes whether or not AWIL:RE's visual upgrades warrant a double-dip to add to or replace the FME in your library. (If you don't own it at all, then yes, yes you should be purchasing this immediately after calling yourself "a meatloaf" (movie reference!) 25 times in a mirror). That may come down to your level of patience, how big a fan you are, and how important having the best looking version of a film is to you. As far as just how good this restoration is, it's FANTASTIC. The only real comparison I can make would be to the very best of Scream Factory's releases. (With their release of The Thing being perhaps the very best of all restorations I've watched). AWIL handles a lot of color correction, deepening of blacks, and sharpening of images with near perfection. And the best part of this is just what a difference it made in bringing Rick Baker's amazing FX even further to life. As much fixing as they do, it would be understandable to be concerned that you'd lose the feeling that it was originally shot on film, becoming an overdone mess. Thankfully, that's not the case. Great care was used with this remaster, and in that regard, this is currently the best version of the film to own. So, what really remains in making a decision is something we don't have an answer for... When will the almost certain 4K release hit? No word on that yet, but at the price this version is offered, for the die-hard fans of one of the top werewolf movies made, it's worth the inevitable dreaded "triple dip" when 4K is announced.

We all know that this is an absolute classic, so I won't review the movie itself. Aside from that, I had to replace an old version that split in half, and was happily surprised that this was a deluxe version with a poster, book, special packaging and some extras that weren't on my old version. This isn't a Best Buy exclusive, but it is one of the best versions of this classic that you'll find. The one disappointing aspect is that there is no Landis commentary. I guess they're saving that for the 40th anniversary edition. Until then, this is the best version that you'll find.

As the title says this movie is about an American werewolf in London. This movie came out in 1981. It has mystery, action , and comedy. The special effects stand the test of time. This is a classic werewolf movie.

Most people will agree that this is the Best Werewolf Movie Ever made. The transformation sequence was easily ahead of its time and still looks good today in Bluray High Def. I've owned this movie on every format and even though I already had it on Bluray I upgraded to the Steelbook cause they are awesome. Definitely a MUST HAVE for anyone who loves Horror and Steelbook.

The movie made its hi-def debut on the defunct HD-DVD format in 2006. Universal would then recycle that transfer for its initial bluray release a couple of years later in 2008 as the Full Moon Edition. While a definite improvement over previous DVD editions of the film, the first bluray left room for improvement. The picture quality was often noisy with poorly resolved & clumpy grain structures which robbed the film of its visual potential. Colors and skin tones were also a little bit washed out looking too while black levels suffered a bit. Flash forward to 2016 and Universal decided to do a new 6K scan/restoration of the film for another bluray release in time for the film's 35 anniversary that same year. It was released in a new bluray dubbed the "restored edition". The picture quality on the restored edition disc has proven to be quite controversial with a lot of people. Some say it is a big improvement over the initial disc while others claim Universal went overboard with DNR (Digital Noise Reduction). I did direct comparisons with the Full Moon Edition and can safely say that the Restored Edition blows it away in terms of picture quality. Film grain is still there, it is just much better resolved than the previous bluray. The detail is far superior on the new transfer too as I can now make out all kinds of details in the background of shots that were imperceptible on the old disc. I think what is happening is that some people upon seeing the first images of the new transfer are taken aback by how much cleaner and smoother the image looks. This is due to how noisy and bad in comparison the old bluray looked. What people were mistakenly pointing to as film grain on the old disc was actually digital noise which obscured detail. Claims that the new transfer is artificially sharpened are false too. At no point did I feel that the new transfer looked too waxy or smooth. The movie now looks amazing! Detail is immaculate. Colors are better along with improved black levels and contrast. As I previously mentioned, I did direct comparisons between the two and the new disc smokes the old transfer in my eyes. Sadly no new extras are present but all of the previous extras which were informative were ported over. Audio seems to be as good as it was before. I am very picky when it comes to bluray transfers of classic films and can say that the Restored Edition represents a very noticeable improvement in terms of picture quality. Highly recommended!

An American Werewolf In London has it all: Suspense, humor, love story, great sound track. The special affects for the day were outstanding. They made the guy look like a wolf and not a guy needing a shave and braces. The selection of moon based songs were outstanding. A definite must see for Halloween!

Great new HD Scan update to a classic we all know & love! Definitely makes the fx looks better than ever before! The only version I’d buy would be this one or 4k (for the same HD update just on 4K screen viewing)

I can take or leave John Landis as a director but the fact that he directed two of my favorite things puts him up there, 1 i love Michael Jacksons Thriller video and two i love this movie, simply for giving rick baker the chance to do what he does best.

Blu-ray re-issues. You hate them, I hate them. Commonly called "double-dips" by collectors because movie studios love to put out a bare bones version of a movie then re-issue a better collectors version down the line. In essence, they get you to buy the movie twice when you upgrade. I almost did that when I decided I wanted to buy An American Werewolf in London the Full Moon edition. But as luck would have it, I caught wind that a newer better version was just around the corner. Not having owned the older "Full Moon" version, I cannot speak to how good that version looks, but I can assure you that it probably doesn't look as good as this version. The movie has been fully restored, cleaned, and looks absolutely gorgeous on high definition televisions. The movie looks like it could have been filmed recently, it looks so good. There's also a good ton of behind the scenes bonus material such as interviews with the director and special effects guru Rick Baker. Do yourself a favor and pick-up this newer version if you're on the fence about upgrading from a previous version. It'll have you howling with joy.

This may seem dated to newer generations however in it's time presented ground breaking special effects - this was still pre-CGI so the FX are in camera and impressive considering. Plus it just a fun flick and perfect for Halloween. A bit ahead of it's time, incorporating elements of comedy, satire and drama that confused many audiences of the era. It holds up very well.
