Pain in the butt to connect to other things in your house, multiple glitches with iPhone. For a speak/radio system it’s perfect but not what I was looking for as part of a smart home

My biggest problem recently with the pair as stereo with my apple tv 4k has been the volume control, it does t work well anymore, it seems like it only controls one and not the other, it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve reset them or unpair them it doesn’t help at all, I’ve been on with customer service at apple and nothing, can’t seem to get help to fix it, and I know I’m not the only one, there are forums related to that specific issue, I thought apple was a great company but this is a major drawback for me

Constantly have to restart the speaker every day for it to play. Apple products are normally the best but this is the biggest flop of the century. When they play they play well good sound. But i am Aggravated having to constantly restart the speakers ever day. If you do have a good one keep it youre lucky.

Great speakers for AirPlaying audio from your iPhone/iPad to the HomePod or use through eArc with Apple TV, but that's it.
If you plan on using this for MacOS, look elsewhere because there is a significant delay when playing/pausing videos, significant bugs/errors, and audio cutting in and out.

Bought mine direct from Apple. Extremely disappointed. Set up was easy as most Apple products are. The sound was hollow and could barely fill my small living room. There are no controls for the sound other than a mild base control. I have bought Apple products for 10 plus years. Never have I been so disappointed with a product.

Apple HomePod Max and Mini speakers are problematic when you have them in a stereo pair — they constantly lose their synchronicity with their paired partner. The only resolution I have found to date is to factory reset and reconfigure. The HomePod max struggles to perform as Apple TV home theater pair in a large space. I keep all my Apple products up to date on patches - and this unpairing has happened 5 times in a year of ownership. I yanked them out - and replaced them with Onn Roku speakers until I figure out which product I will replace them with…. But Sonos is looking solidly as a contender.

It's not bad. But it's useless if you want to make calls over Zoom or Google Meet (sounds significantly delayed).
For the money it costs, there are better options.
