For $679.99 you can't beat it for a Mac. Granted being a dual core instead of quad means you can't run as much, but at 2.7ghz who can complain? Video streaming on the Intel Iris is awesome with Hulu, Netflix, and YouTube. Even gaming is sufficent with the few titles available. Games such as Bioshock, Doom3, Oddworld, and Left 4 Dead 2 run great. Haven't tried Bioshock Infinate yet though. The operating system runs very smoothly, and boots up really fast. Navigating is a bit of a stretch if your used to Windows, but it's easy to leard quickly. In my opinion this OS is much more sleek and easy to operate than Windows by far.
All in all I think this is the best Mac computer for the entry level. Definitely worth the $200 more than the $479.99 1.4ghz machine. Cause of this computer I will definitely buy an iMac or MacBook Pro as my next upgrade down the line.

Great Computer for Photoshop and Email

I purchased this computer as a secondary one in addition to my 27” iMac. It worked great with the 32” television I used it on until I decided to buy a cinema display so I could edit high-definiton photos. It works like a charm and it gets the job done. 1TB hard drive is more than enough, and the memory in this is incredible. I multitask using ‘Premiere Pro CS6’ and ‘Photoshop CS6’ and it has yet to fail me. Apple computers are in fact more in a price prospective but they hold their value and is reflected in their performance. I would invest in the Apple Magic Mouse and the Wireless Keyboard for the best results.

Great way to convert to a Mac computer from a PC

I already had a monitor, keyboard and mouse but wanted to convert to an iMac for less than a $1000 and I decided to purchase the iMac mini and I found the 2.6 Ghz 8 GB ram with a 1 TB hard drive for $699 was the best choice for me. When Best Buy advertised the device for $51 off at $649.99 I decided to dive in and make the purchase. I haven't regreted this decision for one moment. I liked using my PC w/ Windows XP, I was OK with using Windows 7, but after trying Win 10 I had enough of Windows!

Now, don't get me wrong... I'm a multi OS kinda guy. I have Linux, Windows, now OS X. Gotta say Im loving the experience so far. This Mac mini is fast, fluid, easy to use and a real joy.
I've been using it for college, and it does what I need it to do.

As an "old guy" I like things simple and efficient, this more than meets that criteria but gives me plenty of room to grow and learn. You get to customize it to your satisfaction with the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, plus add accessories as needed...no wasted space. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a killer desktop that hides in plain sight!

Perfect machine for the purpose…

Had a coworker using an older iMac that needed to be utilised elsewhere in the company in a hardware shuffle. Needed a system good for email, acrobat and a browser based database system. Since the company is ~90% Mac, well, I think the solution is obvious. So, took a lunch, went to the nearest Best Buy and grabbed a Mac mini. Made sure to get double the base ram, left the Time Machine restore at the end of the night, and the next morning, two Macs up and running.
No the mini isn't the most robust system ever. No, I don't know if it will be a long term part of the Apple computer lineup. I do know that for the price, it's a decent system for moderate jobs and it's a lot easier than trying to teach inexperienced coworkers how to use and do simple maintenance on Linux.
Ask me how I know that one…

I was gonna get the base model with 4Gb of ram but decided to get the 8 Gb / 2.6Ghz i5 model. I have no complaints. Oh yeah, A word to the wise. There are some people out there boasting about how the 2012 Mac mini is still a better deal because you can upgrade the ram. Pretty soon, That unit will not be compatible with any new OS that Apple releases. Just save yourself the trouble and buy a unit that will be compatible much longer. That makes better sense to me. Shop with confidence and make the right investment. I use two Monitors with mine. Nice!

Certified Refurbished = Good As New

I bought the Geek Squad Certified Refurbished Mac Mini and it is just as good as new. I use it everyday without any issues. I run Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Chrome (all programs that run heavy) at the same time and never have any issues with slowing down. The only downfall I have seen so far is that I was thinking about upgrading RAM down the road and the 2014 & newer Mac Minis memory is soldered in. No changing. However, 8gb RAM seems to be enough.

I use it to train and learn about the Mac OS. Still primarily a windows users but this is my of getting a mac that isn't so expensive. Use virtual box to install virtual machines, I have windows 10, Linux Peppermint, and getting ready to install MacOS Sierra. Great training platform for people who work in the I.T. Field!

Don't be fooled by the Mac Mini's internal hardware. It may not have been updated in a few years but it's still capable of outputting to a 4K monitor and even editing 4K video with ease. I purchased a 12.9" iPad Pro last year and found myself using it more and more instead of my notebook. I would turn to my MacBook Pro only when I wanted to do very specific things, like encode a video in Handbrake. So I sold it off and decided a Mac Mini would fit that need just fine. At the time, it pretty much had the same internal hardware as the $1200 iMac but I didn't need the monitor (not when I have two 1080p monitors sitting at my desk).
Overall, I've been pleased with this little machine. The dual-core Core i5 is still a solid CPU and only marginally behind the current generation in terms of performance (it's about 15% the new Kaby Lake chips when it comes to benchmarks, big deal), 8GB of RAM is more than enough to accomplish basic and even more advanced tasks in macOS, and I forgot what it was like having access to so much built-in storage after migrating from a 128GB MacBook Pro. Apple also included Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11ac, there are four USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt 2 ports, analog audio in, analog/digital audio out, an SDXC card reader, and HDMI output. There's also a front-facing IR port but I think it only works with the older, silver remote and not the new touchpad remote.
The one thing that still shocked me was how small this desktop is. It's about the same size as older set-top-box streaming units but packs a lot more power in an elegant anodized aluminum enclosure. Overall, I have found three negatives with the current Mac Mini. The positives were more than enough to outweigh anything I have against the Mac Mini but I will list them anyways.
First, it is a pain to upgrade the internal hardware of the Mac Mini and the only thing you can change out is the internal storage. The RAM is now soldered directly onto the logic board and is no longer user-replaceable. It takes quite a bit of time and effort to get the black rubber cover off. After you've spent 15 minutes doing this, you'll be greeted with an aluminum sheet held on by hex screws. It's only after removing those when you'll start to see the internal hardware but even then, it takes a couple of minutes to finally get to the hard drive. This really shouldn't shock anyone in this day and age as Apple has long been making non-upgradable PCs. The Mac Mini used to be the last holdout after the iMac but that's changed now. Make sure you get whatever features you want upfront as you won't be able to add anything else except external components later down the line.
Second, I really wish this would of come with a Fusion Drive as standard even if it was a 1TB Fusion Drive with only 64GB of SSD (instead of the 128GB standard). Going from a MacBook Pro with SSD to a Mac Mini with a hard drive has taken some getting used to. Programs take a good 4-5 seconds longer to open, it takes longer to load things, and rebooting the system takes a while. Once programs and things are loaded, the Mac Mini handles them well just like any other Mac with SSD. It' the initial opening and loading that adds time.
Lastly, I definitely wouldn't pay $699 for this. For that price, the internal hardware is too old and you should be getting an SSD (or at least a Fusion Drive) standard. I purchased my Mac Mini when it was on sale for $599 and I had another coupon that dropped it down to $499. For that price, it's a pretty solid desktop for those that prefer macOS to Windows. At $699, it's an expensive system that's not worth it. You would be better off saving up and getting a new iMac instead for $300 more.
That being said, I'm fine with the internal hardware at the price that I paid. It encodes 1080p, h.264 movies (with stereo AAC and 5.1 Dolby Digital sound) in less time than it took my 2015 MacBook Pro (and even Surface Pro 4), takes up very little desk space, is still a sharp looking machine, and it pretty quiet (I've never really heard the hard drive or fans kick on). It has served it's purpose and is exactly what I wanted out of a desktop.
I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to dip their toes into macOS or someone who needs a newer desktop but already has a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. Just make sure you wait until the Mini is on sale, otherwise it's not worth the $700 price.

My office uses PC's as the appointment and billing software requires that platform, and honestly I refuse to run any form of windows on my Macs. I had been using an older Mac Book Pro in the office for all of my computer needs that were not the PC required items. I developed a need for the laptop elsewhere and decided to get the mini to run in the office hooking it up with a KVM with to share the monitor with the PC. For the price it is an amazing piece of equipment. I us a 2014 iMac at home and am very impressed with the power and function of the little box here at the office. To the point I am considering just sticking with the mini's for future computer upgrades., Fast enough, enough ram and storage to accommodate all of my non programmer, general user needs.

My 14 year old APPLE POWERBOOK G4 laptop recently stopped working (screen became too dark to read comfortable) and it was time to replace it. I didn't need another laptop so I purchased the MAC MINI COMPUTER. I am extremely impressed with the ease, speed, power and functionality of this computer. It was relatively inexpensive for an Apple product, and I hope that it lasts as long as my previous Apple computer.

I bought this specifically to learn the features and whereabouts of a Mac. I didn't expect it to do much. I assumed it was just a simple machine for office work and whatnot. I was waaaaaaaay off on that assumption.
The 8 gigs of RAM, the 2.6 gHZ Core i5 processor, and the Intel Iris Graphics unit make this tiny little box more powerful than any Windows Laptop I've ever owned. I believe it's speed and performance is equivalent, if not, better, than my custom PC that I built only 4 months ago!
(For you techies and gamers, my custom built is an ASUS A88X Pro MoBoard, AMD A10 7850k APU clocked at 4.2ghz across all cores, and 8 gigs [2 sticks] of Corsair Vengeance Red Edition RAM. The fact that this 2.6 ghz 4th gen i5 is even comparable to my A10 is just BEYOND me)

In addition it is a very powerful stand alone computer with a compact form factor, so it will fit unobtrusively anywhere. The 8 GB memory (expandable to 16) - & 1 TB hard drive (SSD also available) ensure that you have a machine powerful enough for any task. Personally, I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop constantly, but the Intel processor, 8 GB RAM and onboard GPU, ensure I only have to focus on the applications and not worry about any freeze ups, loss edits. The 4 robust USB 3.0 ports allow me to daisy chain two additional 3.0 hubs, taking my available number of high speed ports to a total of 14, most of which are each connected to 2 TB hard drives, and they all perform like they are the only device connected!!

Moved from an old MacBook Pro to the Mac mini. I own an IPad and iPhone which meet my mobility needs.
Attached an existing hdtv via hdmi cable monitor and it works well and picture is beautiful, small difference in resolution settings means that I had to tweak window size, but no big deal compared to the cost of an apple display.
Already had apple compatible wireless keyboard for iPad, and a very old USB generic mouse. The keyboard works perfectly, the mouse works ok. Borrowed a wireless apple mouse and it is a huge improvement, so will likely upgrade that in the future, but for now, the old mouse is adequate.
As far as transferring files... I have an external drive. I used that to back up the MacBook. Switched the cable from the MacBook to the new Mac mini, put in the password. It was a simple process to copy files from the external drive to Mac mini and I was up and running.
My biggest issue - I had multiple iTunes accounts and content on the old Mac book just worked. Had quite a time getting that content authorized on the new Mac mini, but that was my fault for not having details of all iTunes accounts and not a reflection of the Mac mini or Apple.
The old MacBook was a performance dog, just couldnt handle the OS upgrades. The new Mac mini performs beautifully, no delays and even streaming movies has improved. The buffering delays that were a regular occurrence have disappeared with no other changes to the network configuration.
Well worth the money. Wish I'd done this immediately, instead of thinking about it for years.
