I have tried several gaming headset, including A40 with M80 and my last the Turtle Beach XO7 Pro. The XO7 started to give me problems and I didn't wanted anything wireless, but I wanted something better, so I read about this and decided to give them a shot. From the moment you setup this thing and you start hearing the very crisp detail Dolby Surround 7.1 sound, man...it blew me away, it's loud, I can't turn the volume all the way up, it's that loud. If you have something else that's not this and you think is good, sell it/return it and get this. I like playing FPS game and specially COD is another league with this. It's amazing how much I was still missing, I thought my XO7 game me nice detail, but again, this is another league. I will said it again and again, it will blow you mind. Also I was worried about the cables but they are long enough, my couch is 10-12 feet from the XBOX and I have no issues with it. This headsets are worth every single penny. I'm not a hard core gamer, but if you are like me, that like the best of the best, this is it, period. Thinking about getting the COD mod kit as well to isolate the noise.

I have always been a turtle beach guy since I been gaming call of duty competitively since 2008. I took a 4-5 year break and just recently got back into competitive gaming and these had just came out and gave them a try...amazing sound quality, very easy setup, and their fully customizable what more could you want

I was sceptical of spending $250 for headsets because i thought it was a gimmick plus just having purchased the recently release TurtleBeach Stealth 600 Wireless headsets 3 weeks ago. The TB600 sucked, staticy sound, no real sense of virtual SS. The Astro A40 have great custom EQ options that you can sync/share, sounds are great and loud and the virtual surround sound feature is awesome which was something I couldn't detect with my TB 600 headsets. I can actually sense sounds from behind in FPS games (or any 3D game of that matter) and can pinpoint locations of sound. These are kind of comfortable but hurts with glasses for long sessions. I guess it depends on your head shape and glasses. The inline cable that runs from amp to headset is kind of short. I sit like 4 feet from my TV so its not a big deal. I do recommend these headsets if you are willing to spend at least $150. The extra $100 is not too shabby and worth it. I couldnt believe how real the virtual ss works. I was hunting for a good headset that can pull that feature off well for a looong time and finally came across a pair that delivers. Go buy these awesome headsets while you can becauase I will stick with these for atleast another year.

I have to say, these are WONDERFUL and I was not expecting them to react so well. There is something to be said about having an amp in front of your headphones, and an equalizer on top of that. The headphones are crystal clear, block amazingly well, and feel SPECTACULAR. For me, I like to sound check to Ori and Halo 4 (for Xbox). Ori has great orchestral range while hiding low tones that have otherwise caused static on other $100+ pairs. Halo 4 has the beautiful vocals at the intro as well as large explosions and talking AI, to test the headphones for their ability to handle the gambit. The final thing I will mention is that you will have two hefty cords coming from your machine to the amp (optical and micro-usb for power). I, personally, don't mind them because it means a better signal than compressed wi-fi (look it up if you didn't know) necessary to send it through your controller. If you're willing to spend $150, spend the extra $100 and you won't ever look back!

Tried the Turtle Beach XO ONE's and then the Stealth 420x's before these. What can I say other than these are the most comfortable and best sounding headsets I have ever used. The only negative is all the cords but I can totally live with that since these headsets fit perfectly and sound great. I'm 12-13 feet away from my Xbox one and I still have just a tad more cord length than needed.

The cords are adequate in length. They could stand to be longer. The audio quality is good, the microphone is clear and understandable for people on the other end of multiplayer games. The design of the headphones is nice while still remaining comfortable to wear. The speech and game volume knobs allowing for fine tuning of the two channels of audio is a great touch. Overall this is a very nice wired headset that connects directly to the xbox and not the controller. It will will reach across a modest living room to have the volume controls rest on the couch but is better used when sitting at a desk next to the xbox and a nice chair. If the wires don't sound like a negative then you will like these headphones for the audio quality.

The Astro A40TR for the Xbox is awesome!!! This is THE best wired headset. Yes, wireless is nice and all; but over time, batteries tend to show it's age by not holding its charge. Yes you can plug and play most wireless headsets, but the battery in the headset tends to get hot while charging....emitting radiation that can cause headaches. Save yourself the "headaches" and pick up the Astro A40TR's. Comfortable for hours and hours of play with no worries of losing sound in the middle of a match. I've had the Turtle Beach Ear Force Delta, but there was no rechargeable battery pack. It ate batteries on the regular and the ear cups eventually started deteriorating. Then I picked up the Triton Warheads; which were amazing. Interchangeable battery packs were awesome and it was completely wireless. Sound started cutting out in one ear and replaced it with the old A50 (Battlefield Edition). Battery eventually wouldn't hold its charge and the "play and charge" option was cool and all; but it literally gave me headaches from the heat. Picked up the A40TR's and never looked back. Hard wired is the way to go. It's worth the money....now my son and I have our own. Highly recommended.

I tried the Arctis Pro with dac and without question this headset beats that hands down. I often game and for the first time ever I could hear footsteps of enemies from around the corner. It was insane! they are comfortable - which the Arctis Pro were not. The headset turns on at the push of a button on the mixamp. Turning it off and returning to the original sound source (t.v. - speaker..etc) is as easy as turning off the mixamp - so simple. The cord is long enough for me to stand up and take a few steps. The sound is incredible. You will not regret. Also, you can change out the side panels of the headset (update colors - get a leather set and so on) and you can move the mic from one side of your face to the other - easily! It cuts out background noise very well. Lastly, the software is simply. You'll have to change the voice setting because it's too quick to cut out sound from the background. It will inevitably cut out your voice. But changing the sound setting to 'night mode' removes that strong 'noise gate' they have up at start. The software comes with 4 presets – one is tournament – that’s the best for gaming. It also allows you to create your own presets and even mess with some advanced equalizer/frequency settings. It’s a great pair. You won’t regret.

Amazing sound quality! Makes me feel like I'm inside of the game. I love the mixer & being able to control game volume, voice volume & the different bass settings. Only downfalls are the headset is kind of heavy, so it hurts after wearing for a while & the cords are long/get in the way.

First off, I have owned many different headsets in the past including other generations of A40s as well as A30 and A50 models. These new TR model A40s are by far my favorites I have used. I bought a mod kit for mine as I wanted the leatherette ear pads and top band. The sound quality is incredible either way but I prefer the more isolated sound the modem kit provides. Having the Astro command center available so you can customize your equipment settings is just icing on the cake. I honestly can't think of anything Astro can improve for its next generation of A40.

This is the best headset I've ever purchased. Sound is superb and can also be adjusted by selecting from one of the three presets coming from the the mix amp. Comfort is even better, you'll forget that you even have these on. And the mic....the mic is nothing but phenomenal everything can be heard by everyone and it can be switched from the left side to the right side. And don't forget mod kits can also be purchased for this headset. The mod kits allow for a closed back headset. Also the mix amp which allows the user to not have to plug a cable into the controller is awesome. The mixamp which plugs directly into the headset allowing nob adjustments for the game and voice volume is very user friendly. So look no further than the ASTRO A40TR.

sold my A50's to get these A40 TR only because I was tired of having to recharge my headset after a gaming session. the A40's paired with the xbox adapter will allow you to bypass having to use the mix amp (which is now hooked up to my pc for when I use it). the sound and mic clarity over the A50 is noticeable to me and to my gaming buddies. overall I'm happy with the move to the A40's but just hate that they're white, but oh well...good product and can't go wrong with Astro

I had the A50s and I was tired of constantly charging them. Also, the chord running from the A50s to the controller for chat started crapping out on me after less than a month. It would actually turn off my controller too. That was not okay. The A40 TRs though are perfect. Nothing plugged into the controller and the sound quality is amazing. It is great to be able to mix the chat and game audio to the perfect sound you want. These are definitely worth the buy. I can't go back to tv speaker gaming anymore.

Ive gone through my fair share of headsets, from logitech (yes I know they bought out Astro) to Turtle Beach's... and even Steel Series. But I just could never find that right one for my taste. Until I bought the Astro A40s. I was hesitant to purchase it because of the price. Its pretty heft and the previously mentioned headsets are cheaper compared to this one and they do the job just fine, but I just had to test these out. Plus, I had about $110 in rewards so I figured, "Why not?!" BEST. DECISION. EVER!!! The mixamp makes AAALLL the difference too! The surround sound is so crisp and the mic is really clear!! The comfort of these are like no other - very light, glasses friendly (thanks Gunnars!) and after a while, I forget that I have them on. If you have the money and have the patience to deal with lots of cabling - which is annoying to me - then get these... you wont regret it. And if you do, just return them. Easy Peasy.

This headset and accompanied Mixamp are bar none the top of its class. For a person who is looking for customizable sound and high quality build this is the top choice. Gaming is my main use but just listening to music on these is a treat.. All parts of the build were tight and clean. I have had other Astros in the past and these are a real move in the right direction. Side note my a40s and Mixamp from 2011 are still working these were purchased to use on my laptop which has an optical sound port so these were the obvious choice for me. I love the fact that they come apart and can be customized to look different. Seriously my only complaint is the cables were too long for laptop so I just got shorter ones and swapped them out! Overall no issues great sound and the price reflects this. Happy pwning..

The comfort of this headset is amazing. I only have a few minor complaints....biggest one is sound level...while wearing them the sound I hear is like surround sound but if I'm on my headset and my husband uses the astros...it's difficult to hear him. Not sure if it is user error or actual headset....we read up on how to adjust it but it doesn't seem to change anything. My only other complaint is all the cords for the mix amp...although I know it is a requirement for ultimate sound quality wires in general can be frustrating. Other than those 2 minor things I love them

I had a Turtle Beach headset that I used for a number of years and it was great but it was time to update. I searched around and read tons of reviews and went with the Astro Gaming A40 TR headset and I am not disappointed. This thing sounds amazing and it feels great on your head. Hardly notice you have a headset on. While it is wireless from your controller is does have a wire that goes from the Xbox to the mix amp and one from the mix amp to the headset. That being said, at first I thought I would not like that, then after a while I loved it. So much customization and I use this headset to watch movies in 7.1 when I don't want to be loud. you can even hook your phone into the mix amp and listen to your music while you play or even talk on the phone if your need to. The headset can be modded later if you wish. Definitely worth the purchase.
