A lot more laptop than most people really need!

I wanted a laptop with a screen resolution that was better than my tablets. This is so much sharper than my old laptop, or even than my brand new iPad that boasts the fancy resolution. The processor is a big step up from my old AMD (which was great at the time I bought it) and having the 1TB SSD was a great plus for me. I have seen reports that it runs hot but I also saw that the bios needed to be updated and I have found that my laptop is running very cool and is so quiet! I also have the backlit keyboard which I like quite a lot (although I understand that it may not be included on newer models). The sound quality is also excellent! So, this is more laptop than I need too, but I wanted a laptop that made me smile every time I use it and doesn't need to be replaced in a year and a half. I am very pleased!

Had it for almost a month now. Love it. Our old ASUS is 9, yes nine, years old and still works perfectly fine. Used it for home, light office work. We were/are on it 4-5x a week. We needed new one because doing a few more functions now. We love everything about the new one. Ease of use, speed, set up, keyboard, Windows 10, graphics, zooming, camera, all of it. Doesn't run hot at all. Battery life awesome. If you need a high quality computer that will last and not have issues, one for light office, home use, zooming, then this is it.

This is a great computer, I've have for 2 months now and it works very good for my needs. The only issue is it gets hot when running some games, Running 4k games in particular, switching to 1080p works to keep things cool. I got this when on sale for $999 is say it was a good deal.

Fragile product and bad customer service

Overall, this laptop is ideally a great product, and has really good processing features. However, I am a little disappointed with the hardware side of this product. Unfortunately, due to travel and limited padding (partially my fault on my part) that I provided to cushion my computer, the screen was significantly cracked and damaged during travel. Overall, this computer is very fragile, at least in terms of the screen. Part of this rating is also due to Best Buy's customer service, as I brought my computer for repair at a local Geek Squad repair center, and they took it and prepared a generic service repair order, shipped it, and it took them almost 2 months for them to tell me they couldn't fix it because they didn't have the part, so in the end they returned the computer back to me, still broken, as it was originally. Not sure why Best Buy is selling a computer, particularly high-end models, that they cannot support in terms of repairs. They also didn't want to provide me with any warranty or trade-in options, even though I had bought this computer fairly recent. Overall one of the worst services I've had with Best Buy.

I bought this product and it didn't take a month and it was already failing, the screen freezes for no reason, forcing me to turn it off and lose the information worked up to this moment. I have taken it several times by guarantee to Best Buy without a successful response, they examined the software, the hardware, and they cannot determine the reason, so they do not take any action, or change it for a new one, since then I have not been able to use it as I'd like. Dear Mary,

The screen freezing up must be a glitch that can easily be resolved by doing a power cycle. To perform this, please hold down the power button until the laptop completely shutdown. Once completely shutdown, wait for 10 seconds and more then power it back on.

This may occur during the initial Windows setup and once WINDOWS Update installation completed, system speed or performance will be optimized. Do not run any applications or surf the web until updates are installed completely.

While accessing web applications, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance.

If you need further assistance, please email me at [email protected] and I would be happy to help. Or, you can speak to an ASUS live support agent at http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

    Great Portable Desktop Replacement

My 17-inch laptop’s warranty expires at the end of this month (December 2020). So I decided to take advantage of Best Buy’s extended-return period by checking out potential replacement laptops. After two weeks of research, I selected the 15.6-inch ASUS Q537FD (listed as UX563FD on ASUS’ website) for two reasons. First, the laptop boasts nearly all my preferred features. Second, and most importantly, its $959.99 open-box price was too good to pass up (full retail price is $1,499.99). Below is a list of personal pros/cons after using the Q537FD for over a month. Pros -Weight. At 4.2 lbs. (1.9 kg), it is lighter than other popular 15” laptops (e.g., Lenovo Yoga C940, HP Spector x360, and Dell XPS). In terms of total area, it is also the smallest of the four laptops. -Specs. 16 RAM and 1 TB SSD. -Boot up/Face recognition. Boots up in around 10 seconds include face recognition. Face recognition wakes the laptop up in about 3 seconds. -Build quality. Well built and very sturdy, but a notch below HP’s Spectre, Microsoft’s Surface, and Apple’s MacBook laptops. The screen does not bend when you try to twist it and there’s no flex on the edges of the chassis. More importantly, there’s very little flex when pushing down on the center of the keyboard. Two hinges on the 2-in-1 design are very firm (but not stiff) and feel like they’ll last over time. -Keyboard. Keyboard travel is fine and typing generates very little noise. Backlighting has 3 levels (excluding off) and automatically turns off a minute after you stop typing. -Trackpad. Solid and smooth. No gaps on the track pad’s four sides, also the bottom right and left clicks are not too loud. -Screen size/Bezels. Extremely small bezels allow ASUS to fit a 15.6” screen on a 14” laptop lid. -Screen brightness. Very bright at over 400 nits (300 is recommended minimum). With previous laptops, I’d have the brightness level at 50% when watching videos or working. The laptop’s screen is so bright I can lower the brightness to 40%. More importantly, when screen brightness is at zero I’m still able to watch videos or work from the light from a small desk lamp (extends battery life to just over 14 hrs). -Touch screen. Is responsive and no major (or minor) glitches have occurred yet. Best of all, I can use my Surface pen. -Battery capacity/life. Capacity is pretty large at 71,000 mW. Two different use case scenarios were tested: 1. High settings (100% brightness; 4k screen resolution; Wifi, Bluetooth, and battery save turned on; power plan on balance mode-best performance) yielded nearly 8.5 hrs of continuous YouTube viewing. 2. Normal settings (40% brightness; 1080p screen resolution; Wifi, Bluetooth, and battery saver turned on; power plan on balance mode-best battery life) yielded just over 11 hrs of continuous YouTube viewing. Needless to say, this laptop’s battery life is great and can easily get through an entire work or school day. -Rapid charging. The 120W AC Adaptor permits fast charging (10% to 60% in 35 mins). Charging to fully, however, takes well over 2 hrs (10% to 100% in 2 hrs). -Processor. Intel’s Core i7-10510U processor opens apps and links quickly. There is also no shutter or lag. Intel’s U series processors are power efficient which, along with the large 71,000 mW battery, helps explain the long battery life. -Overheating/Fan. With no apps (including background apps) open, the laptop’s temp was in the low 30 degrees Celsius. After opening and playing 20 YouTube views, temp increased to the mid-70s (overheating occurs at or above 100 degrees) and the fan noise was noticeable but far below an HP Spector x360. A minute later, the temp dropped to the high-50s and fan noise was inconspicuous. Cons -Face recognition. Unlike my Surface Go 2, face recognition does not work in total darkness. -Chassis. Because the keyboard chassis is metal, the palm rest can feel cold if the surrounding temper is a bit chilly. -Speakers. Bass is far too weak. Purchased a small portable Bluetooth speaker for music listening. Sound is fine when watching movies and listening to non-music videos. -Memory. Is DDR3, not DDR4. Also, memory speed is 2133 MHz which is slower than the recommended minimum of 3000 MHz. -GPU. Is about two years behind NVIDIA’s latest graphics. Hence, this GPU would be problematic for high-level gaming. -SD card reader. The memory card sticks out 0.71 inches. -Touchpad. Not centered over the space bar. -Fan. Some air vents are located right below the screen. For this reason, hot air hits the bottom of the display when the fan is blowing at its highest level (might be an issue when gaming). -AC Adaptor. The 120W AC adaptor is large and bulky (6.2” long, 2.8” wide, and 0.75” thick). -Power button. Difficult to locate and press due to its unusually small size. -Lid. Some flex when you press down on the center of the lid. -4K resolution. On a 15.6” display, viewing the content in 4K is not noticeably different from 1080p. -Webcam. Front-facing camera’s resolution 720p, not 1080p as Best Buy claims. -Laptop case/Pen support. Unlike buying directly from ASUS, Best Buy does not include a pen or laptop case. Final Thoughts You can find Ultrabook laptops at the same or lower full retail price with similar or better specs. You can also find Desktop replacement laptops with better specs at a comparable full retail price. If, however, you want a laptop that checks both boxes the ASUS Q537FD definitely fits the bill; and is a no-brainer at an open-box discount of $300 to $500.

It was what I need. Good battery life up to 10hours . Iight screen. If you wondering about what is the difference between this laptop and which is with the display on touch pad - - no difference! This laptop also coming with flip display. Just one difference no weird display on touch. Even you not gonna use that display, because too small and confusing. Pay $50 less and you'll get same thing. I don't know why Best Buy doesn't mention about FLIP on description this laptop.

Very fast computer. Used primarily for music creation but anything else it works very well. Able to emulate old GameCube and N64 games (that I own) no lagging or issues. Haven’t tried any modern games but I’m sure it can run those. Storage is awesome as well and should be able to last until it’s time to get a new PC (I think the average is 4-5 years until you need a new one, but this one could exceed that). All in all I highly recommend this one have been using for a year and when my friends have a higher budget for computers I always add this one In the list.

I bought this open box as rated “excellent” which saves me about $500 off the new price it seemed worth it to me. It did have a minor ding in the lid of the laptop but the screen was fine and it did not seem to affect the quality of the laptop overall. I bought this to replace my 5 yr old Dell laptop that was missing keys so really anything would be a step up. I installed Windows 11 right away and out of the box it ran super fast. The 4K picture is quite clear and crisp, but this setting I noticed greatly reduced the battery life if it wasn’t plugged in to about 4-5 hrs, Another con was the small up and down arrows but a lot of laptops don’t have the keyboard space. I suppose adding a keyboard would be something I’d consider later to add on. I did not like that the power button was on the right side of the keyboard next to the usb. It was a bit awkward to turn on and off and find the button. I do like the lighted keyboard, and the overall size. The laptop is a bit heavy but light enough to carry around. I like the sturdier case and feel of it being metal. The cover does get a bit of fingerprints but not the keyboard being sort of brushed dark grey. For gaming I think there are much better options with increased graphics and such but this did the job for Minecraft which my son plays online. I would call this computer more of a personal/home laptop than a gaming one. It’s not built or geared for online games. Another thing I do like is the 1 TB hard drive, it offers extra space for programs that are needed.

I bought this laptop a couple of months ago to replace a machine that crashed on me at a very inopportune time. It was the best one Best Buy had to offer at my local store, so I was just hoping I'd be happy. Wow, this thing is great! Super fast and a TB of SSD. A great computer at a very reasonable price. I'm a small business owner, but I use my computers intensely and this one is the best I've ever owned.

Can't beat it for the price (November 2020)

Initial review: Just received yesterday and got to experience this laptop for the first time. I'm a desktop user so laptop is a bit foreign to me. Right off the bat, this is a solid, feature rich, computer. It is powerful and has the fan power to keep cool and quickly cool down after intensive use. My only gripe is this is NOT a gaming laptop. Sure, it has a decent i7 and a dedicated GPU, and a 1050 is nothing to sneeze at for lighter applications. If you plan on using it for gaming, turn resolution down or turn settings down. That said, I purchased it for $999 during the November 2020 deal and it's so good I got two of them. One for me, one for the Mrs. This is really a great laptop for every day and can handle more intensive applications but will run hot but not too hot to touch. The CPU can run up to 100 degrees C before throttling. The Screen is crisp and responsive, keyboard is great and comfortable to type, the track pad is great and the hardware package is awesome. 1TB SSD + Optane (according to Open Hardware Monitor) responds instantly. Starts up within seconds, applications load instantly and with 16GB or RAM you can load it up without slowing down. Battery can, on "better battery" setting, last for up to, and above, 8 hours but it will struggle to play 4K video, as video will stutter. But increasing performance will get you smooth 4K video at the expense of battery life. For the money, I can't think of a better example of "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it."

I purchased this laptop back in November 2020, on a pre-Black Friday sale for $500 off. One of my main concerns is having a laptop with thermal issues, getting too hot, and the fan running constantly. I actually returned a brand new 13" HP Spectre right before purchasing this Asus Laptop, because of these exact issues, including the fan running constantly with only minor usage. I didn't want to deal with a new computer having this right from the get-go. After using this Asus laptop for almost a year, it does not have any of these thermal issues at all, it doesn't get hot, no fan running. I am not a gamer, I don't play intensive games on the laptop. Others who do the gaming have mentioned that the laptop heats up, but no problems with that occurring here. Additionally this laptop is incredibly fast. I like everything about this laptop, with the exception of the power button which is difficult to press, and the camera which is poor quality for zoom calls, so I use my iPad instead for that purpose, not a big deal. This is the first Asus computer I have ever owned, and this was also my transition back to Windows after a decade of using Macs as my personal computer. Even after the release of the M1 Macbook Pro/Air last Nov 2020, I still wanted to go back to Windows, for various reasons, especially with Apple's ridiculously overpriced adapters. No regrets at all with this purchase, love this Asus laptop. One thing worth mentioning is that when I purchased this laptop on sale online, all the local Best Buy stores in Jacksonville, FL were completely sold out. I didn't want to leave it to chance and have the laptop shipped, in case inventory ran out. So I found a Best Buy Store in the Orlando area which still had inventory, the Waterford Lakes Store. When there's a great sale and the computer is 33% off, you know it's going to be sold out within a couple of hours. Kudos to the associates at the Best Buy Waterford Lakes/Orlando store. I walked in to that store location, they had it waiting for me, picked it up and drove home with it. I appreciate the efficient and wonderful customer service. Major thanks to the associates at this Best Buy Waterford Lakes store for making the 280 mile round trip worth it, they rock!

This is a good laptop for overall performance and entertainment. If you're looking for a hardcore gaming rig, it isn't for you. Basic gaming is fine, but even free games (Killer Instinct for example) won't work in 4k resolution. HD and has settings work fine, but 4k slows it to a crawl. Overall I wanted a solid performing laptop with a touch screen so for what I use it for (college classes, trading the stock market, general business applications), its perfect. The audio is better than most laptops and the screen is bright and beautiful. The metal case is a nice touch as well. Since I'm not a true gamer (I use a PS4 for that), I'm very happy with the laptop.

I was looking for a reasonably priced, fast, 1 TB SSD, 16GB Memory laptop with Ultra-HD Graphics and this PC was one of only a few models that seemed to fit the bill. I had never owned an ASUS model before but was familiar with their motherboards when I used to make desktop computer systems. I waited for a sale price to help seal the deal because it was a bit out of my price range otherwise. So far, no problems. The face scanner login works well and I really like the graphics brilliance and resolution. Other than an occasional flash of the screen to black background for some reason, I have not experienced any unusual problems. Since I am not a gamer, it more than meets my needs.
