I have had this laptop 2 to 3 weeks and are still finding things that I did not know it had .The owners manual leaves a lot to be desired just gives the basic usage at this rate I might not get it figured for months. So each time I use this I find something cool and new also I am not a pro at computers and this is the most advanced computer that I have ever had. It's like going from a model 'A' to a Hennessey venom GT.

(SEE PHOTOS) I bought it, brought it home, and after installing one game, Heroes of the Storm, I launched and the entire computer froze. I did a hard reboot. Then the entire computer ran with horrible green lines afterwards. Bad graphics card issues is all I've read. Also, even though the games never officially ran, the computer got really hot in the keys. I opted to upgrade and get an Alienware 17 R4, which turned out similar as well...

Pros: Super fast Very smooth gameplay Great quality Good sound Cons: Battery life Gets hot This is one fast and powerful computer packed into a laptop. It boots up in maybe 5 seconds and loads programs in a few seconds at most, thanks to its SSD hard drive and quad-core processor. Every game I've played on it has been set to high/ultra high settings and it handles those settings amazingly! I've always played my games on Xbox, but having this 17 inch screen in front of me with awesome looking graphics has tempted me into buying PC games lately. After one month of ownership, I've replaced the included 1TB hard drive with a 750GB SSD hard drive. Upgrading components yourself is a breeze with the easy access via removing the bottom of the laptop. Overall, this is a very solid laptop. Build quality is really great and it looks slick. The back-lit keyboard is easy to type on and feels nice. I mentioned it can get hot as a con up above. This depends on how intensive the game or program is you're using. But yes, it will get hot in certain areas, but it does a great job cooling things and I never experienced any lag or stutter because of it. As for the battery life -- you probably aren't considering this laptop to primarily check your email and browse the web with. You're looking at it because of its incredibly powerful GPU, processor and RAM. At best, you might get 4 hours out of it if you're not playing a GPU-intensive game. Otherwise you can expect between 2 - 2.5 hours of use. With the included 128GB SDD drive, you can expect around 80GB to be available for your use, so be sure to install large programs and games on the 1TB hard drive. Bottom line: I was also considering the MSI GS43VR, but the Asus had better reviews in terms of its build quality and appearance. I have no regrets for going with this laptop and highly recommend it to anyone interested in playing intensive games and not wanting a desktop to do so.

    Very good gaming Laptop

Very nice, I purchased this after taking back the MSI GS63VR (many quality control problems, IE: really bad speakers, charger issues). I am very happy with this PC, the 1TB hard drive is not very fast, but great for storage, the main OS is on the SSD anyway, and includes another M.2 slot for another SSD for future upgrade (See attached). I would have liked the 16GB, but really anything over 8GB for most games is overkill for 1080P games (still up gradable to 32GB). Only reason to knock 1 star off is the keyboard could have been better designed (no RGB, just RED lights), for a 17" the NUM keys could have been larger, and the "B" key squeaks. This Laptop also includes USB-C/Thunderbolt for future external GPU capability. The GTX 1060 plays for most 1080p games on max settings, and with included G-Sync (75Hz display) you really do not see any issues. The battery life is bad (2-3hrs), but it's a gaming Laptop.

When Apple unveiled their new Macbook 'Pro', I knew it was time to give up on dongles and headaches and move back to a pc laptop. I support my family from my laptop, so having both portability, and power, are very important to me. Adobe premier has come along way in offering support for Cuda cores so I knew that an Nvidia based system was where I wanted to look rather than a ultra-book. The 1060 video card, and speedy ssd (with an additional 1tb hard drive), all paired with great cooling and an i7 quad core processor had me hooked. I bought the laptop with very little ability to research it as it was very new. Many product review videos focused on the 15 inch model rather than the 17. I use this laptop as my main system for work as a Graphic Designer and I have to say it's been rock solid across the board. The 128gb ssd is fast, but the laptop actually supports the even faster nvme based ssd's as well. Because of this, I'd recommend buying the non-ssd only model and adding a nvme based ssd at a larger than 128gb size. You'll spend about the same amount of money but get around 3x the speed from the primary hard drive. Not a huge deal really, not even enough to drop a star because its so easy to upgrade when you need it. The fan noise is very easy to deal with. And a feature that isn't really advertised as often as I'd assume is that the 17 inch model actually packs in an additional fan for even better cooling! It fits easily in my backpack, even though the backpack was labelled being for a 15 inch laptop, because its just so thin. Usb 3.1 and even thunderbolt are here (in usb-c form) so unlike the macbook series, you'll be able to use both old, and new, usb based external devices. It looks amazing, and I never fail to receive a slew of compliments when I use this during a meeting. It looks almost sinister, yet in a professional and toned sort of way. You can most definitely tell that it's something different than any other manufacturer, without being as over the top as something like an alien ware. Pro's: Very very fast at handling everything I throw at it. ASUS drivers and support are top notch. The triple fan cooling system is quiet, and works flawlessly thus far. Nice full sized keyboard, with a very nice tactile feedback. Trackpad is actually use-able and accurate! Battery life of around 5 hours while running photoshop. The screen while not full Adobe color ready, is unbelievable. Very crisp and bright without a single spot of edge bleed. The gtx 1060 is a serious desktop replacement gpu when compared to anything in the 9 mobile series. The laptop was definitely designed by someone who knows that you'll likely upgrade some components down the road. SSD, ram, and even the hard drive are all laid out in a brilliant way and easy to work with. I can handle an external 4k display, a third 1080p display, and the native display, without ever losing a beat. The keyboard, even through a beating of working with large files and animations over a 10 hours work day, never once has gotten hot. Something even my Macbooks had issues with. Negatives: I wish the ssd was nvme based (they are supported but not included) I wish the ssd were larger (128gb is a good starting point but doesnt hold a whole lot) I wish that it had more than 12gb of memory (Ive yet to max this out, but rendering would be a better experience with 16/32gb AGAIN all of the negatives can (very easily I should add) be upgraded for fairly cheap. I would buy this again, in fact I bought a second for my girlfriend who enjoys it for school and gaming. Watch Dogs 2 seems to run great.

I got the computer to play games and to run CAD programs on. I have not tried the CAD but so far everything has been running smoothly. If I keep it slightly angled I have not had any major issues with overheating. It will get warm but not overheat.

I am not a gamer but need a powerful machine with quality display to handle photo/video editing and good sized financial spreadsheets. Tried several laptops before this one with varying degrees of satisfaction, got this one because it had the specs and was a great deal. Was super happy with the performance, no waiting on photoshop or other apps at all. Bottom line is: Pros: * Super fast CPU and memory. Performance is great. * Display is beautiful and fast. Not sure how it would be for a gamer, but for my apps and videos, it is wonderful * The SSD is small but plenty big enough for software and OS. The HDD is very fast, 7500 rpm, and is a good complement for data and files. * The PC is light and thin for what it has. only 6 lbs or so. Very portable. Cons * The keyboard design leaves a lot to be desired. The keytop font is not the best, the backlight is red and weak so it us pretty much useless, and for some unknown reason, they completely left off the End key. While the tactile feel is good, it is not designed well at all. No idea why they did not design a better keyboard as they do have the space. Since I will be using an external mouse and keyboard most of the time, I can live with this. If this was a better keyboard, would have given it 5 stars. Other: * Battery lasts about 4 hours, not bad for a gaming PC with an Nvidia 1060.

I love this laptop. It has the space to store all my files and working projects and then some. Runs games like a dream and even better it runs my CAD and rendering software too. Would highly recommend! Took one star off because as I was typing the other day the "e" key came off as the support was bad. I contacted ASUS support and they provided me with a costly estimate. Just bought a $10 replacement offline instead. Had this laptop for 32 days as of this review.

This laptop has been fantastic. It boots up from a cold start in 3-5 seconds. It plays every game at 60+ fps in 1080p. It looks great and performs even better. Much thinner and lighter than most other brands out there. Downsides: - 3 hour battery life. If you are gaming, you want to be plugged in anyway. Not a big deal for me. - the trackpad is a bit wonky. I have to tap it once or twice to get it to behave. Mostly, I use a mouse anyway. No biggie.

Purchased this as an open box item. Researched prices prior and no regrets since. This laptop hits all the marks with speed and performance. It gets a little hot between the keyboard and screen when pushing some graphics but not enough to worry. Battery could be bigger to handle the power consumption is my only complaint. Boot up is lightning fast and I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking to game on the go or at home.

This laptop is worth every penny at the original MSRP - but when you can get it on sale it's even better! Out of the box this laptop needs nothing and will play almost all games at Ultra settings! The battery life is as expected of a gaming laptop. The overall design for this laptop is great, everything is well placed button wise and is visually attractive. It is made out of metal which is very satisfying, it gives a very premium feel. I was hesitant to get a laptop at first because I am a fan of mechanical keyboards, but this laptops keyboard is great! I don't get that "click click tack tack" noise every time I touch it, however I still feel the satisfaction as I type on it that of a mechanical keyboard. Side by side for the money this laptop for the money blows all of its competitors out the water and I could not be happier with my purchase. I did my research and shopped a bunch of websites and this was the best value for it. Premium components in this build at a killer price if you want to be mobile! Do yourself the favor and pick yours up today!

I’m a gamer, but not hardcore. I wanted something that had a bit of juice to play good games, but didn’t need it to be too beefy. I think this is a wonderful option. It has a nice amount of memory and a graphics card that is better than introductory. Certainly not the absolute best out there, but if you don’t need that, this works really well. One warning, and this might show my age a little, I was surprised that there is not a disc drive embedded in the laptop. It is clearly set up for digital gaming.

The Asus 17" laptop would be perfect IF the track pad worked correctly. It jumps around and is difficult to use. I use a bluetooth track pad and a touchscreen monitor, so this is not an issue for me. Computer is almost instant on from start to login, and is lightning fast for running the digital pipe organ program I run, I'm not a gamer though.
