Nice features. Good speed. The parental controls slow the system and make it less desirable. I can play with the features a bit more. But when I was trying to set time limits, it rendered the computer so slow that we could barely use it during allowable times. Hopefully this will be fixed and I can get all the features of the router.

This thing looks amazing with its adjustable blue glow. And it reaches areas in my house my previous N router had issues with. Bundle that with quality firmware support and this comes highly recommended.

I had been using a Netgear Nighthawk X6 for our 2700 sq ft home, but wasn't happy with the signal strength in some areas, or the flakiness of the router. I had been looking for an alternative and saw the Cube and the AiMesh capabilities and was intrigued. I bought two on black friday and was not disappointed. In fact, a single router gave me a great signal throughout the entire house, much better than the Netgear. I ended up using the 2nd as mainly a wireless bridge and using the ports to hook up to my home lab. The user friendliness is amazing, and I especially like how easy it is to disable internet access for devices individually (for when kids get grounded).

Here's a solution for all you folks out there who have never been very happy with the antenna-studded, blinking-light aesthetic of most wi-fi routers: The Asus Blue Cave. If someone didn't tell you, it's unlikely you would have any idea that this strangely named white box with an illuminated hole in the middle is actually a state-of-the-art router. There are no antennas in sight (4 are hidden inside) and no blinking lights. Just a steady soothing blue glow (you can adjust the brightness) from the "cave" in the middle. Some might even mistake this thing for a piece of art., asuming their artistic preferences run to such high tech designs. Despite its unorthodox name and appearance, the Blue Cave IS a very capable router, bringing most of the latest tech to the connected home. It comes with most of high-end specs you need, including full dual-band wireless AC support, built-in Trend Micro security, a guest channel, streaming mode prioritization, parental controls, Alexa support and more. Another nice bonus is a very comprehensive Web-based admin control, something rare in this era when many tech manufacturers prefer to do everything with smart phone apps. I hate that. For some people, this web interface feature alone may be worth the price because its much easier to navigate and adjust on the larger screen of a PC. But if you HAVE to have a smartphone app, Asus offers one of those too. The first thing you should do when you set up the Blue Cave, which is super simple, is to check out all the options available to you. It's pretty long list, and some settings are probably beyond the understanding of the average consumer. But you still need to go through everything to make sure all your wi-fi devices are connecting correctly (A map of all connected devices is provided) and that all the options you want turned on are on. That's important because many, including the built in Trend Micro AirProtect security system, are turned off by default. Ditto for the options that allows you to monitor network traffic and prioritize your wi-fi system for things like the media streaming, games or web surfing. On paper, the Blue Cave is not the fastest wi-fi router out there but I found it pretty impressive in real world usage. Connections were strong and fast throughout my 1500-square-foot home, which is bristling with wi-fi devices . There are 18 in all, from laptops, to smart lights and switches, to phones to mutiple Alexa devices, streaming video boxes and TVs. All of them connected and ran without a hitch. I even streamed a 4K movie to my TV with any delays or buffering. The Blue Cave comes with 1 year subscriptions to Trend Micro's mobile and PC anti virus software too, but I would skip that. I have never been a fan of that software because it always slows things down, in my experience. And if it's built into the router, why do a need another software layer on the PC? Windows Defender or some other free anti virus and malware software is a better option if you want extra protection on your PC or phone. And you don't have to worry about your subscription running out or paying an annual fee. On big plus on the Blue Cave is there is no annual subscription to keep the Trend Micro protection current in the hardware( ie, on the router itself) The same cannot be said for some competitors. Some routers with hardware protection cease to function if you don't buy keep paying an annual subscription fee. Forget that. Advantage Asus. When you consider the Blue Cave is also quite a bit less expensive than most of those competitors, and is much much easier to install, it's hard to find an argument not to buy one of these things -- if you in the market to upgrade your home wi-fi system. The only real downside I could find is that this is not a mesh system, and therefore perhaps is not the best choice for very large or multi story homes, which need the added reach extra mesh nodes provide. For everyone else, it's worth a look.

It seems there are more routers out there today than ever before, and trying to understand which one to get/use and why becomes a more involved question and answer session. This is a SMART router, meaning it has the ability to monitor inbound/outbound activity looking for problems. If you like to program your router down to the finite level, you will be thrilled to know you can do that with this one! Really! It comes with protection for 4 devices, though I haven't used that part just yet. This is unrelated to the router, it is a bonus item. This router was by far the EASIEST one to set up, ever. Seriously easy. I hate to read directions, but usually you need them to setup a router. So I looked at the sheet. Plug it into your modem. Plug in the transformer. Turn on the power switch. Download the app. Connect to the router with WIFI of your phone or computer. Open the app and setup a user name and password to administer the router. Name your router WIFI broadcast name, setup a WIFI password. Done. It is that easy. And it worked the first time. There is a router reset button if you need it. There are 4 GIGABIT lan ports on board if you need/want them. You can use a USB port on the router for things like a thumb drive that can store files you could access via the cloud. Or a network printer. Or turn a hard drive into a backup device so devices can backup via the network. Lots of choices. As for doing the admin part, this is a full service router. You can monitor traffic going through the router, in general or by device. You can block a user. You can optimize the use of the router for gaming, web browsing, and more. Or you can customize the use. There is even an eco mode to reduce power and that is a nice touch. You can remotely admin the router if you want, or keep it local to your network. I'm just floored with the amount of amazing programming options you have available to you. As for signal strength, holding a signal, etc, there are no issues or problems to report. It has built in support for Amazon Alexa or Echo. There are parental controls as well, which can limit times that someone can be online with the WIFI or block all users at one time. The unit looks very cool and has a very unique look to it. It looks like a bladeless fan with a blue light in the center. It will be something you'll find yourself staring at for quite some time. And the light makes it easy to see everything is good to go. The distance is decent, and rivals my existing router with 2 extension units. I like not having to have little extenders around my house. Our house is only about 1500 square feet, a townhouse, so it isn't huge. But I was also able to get WIFI out in the car, where I usually take conference calls when working at home - so I was able to get good WIFI out there so I can have my laptop on and use WIFI calling. I typically use a MAC and an Iphone, and I'm pleased to say it works VERY well with these devices. Monitoring and administering the blue cave router was easy with these devices. I'm sure it will be equally easy when I get online with my work issued Windows computer. Grab this - it is inexpensive compared to a multiple unit solution. It is a smart router with the built in protection most routers don't have. With all of the routers out there making a decision can be difficult. Recent experience with a similar product was so frustrating that I wanted to pull my hair out. This allows for an easy deployment and with no drama. Buy it! If you don't like it you can return it with Best Buy's generous return policy. If you decide to keep it, you won't be disappointed.

It has an elegant look. An interesting design. But, I'm not sure that the design aids performance. Setup was easy. I've seen lockups at 5, 6, 8, 7, and 5 day intervals (since I started keeping records). When this happens, the device WiFi stops functioning; a power off restart is required. Sometimes more than one restart is needed. In the most recent case, multiple restarts, at 1 3/4 minutes each, didn't get it working again. I'm trying to figure out how to get warranty repair on this. The Asus website is useless and doesn't work correctly in Firefox. I'm disappointed.

So far so good. The 5ghz speed is 3x faster than my old AirPort Extreme. Not getting the best performance on the 2.4ghz signal, but I haven’t messed with it yet. That’s where the missing star is. Great value for what I paid and it looks cool.

I caught this on a digital sale for a -great- price. It's a beautiful piece of tech. the LED effects look amazing. It had a few setup hiccups. The original software setup got killed by a new firmware update and I had to set it up twice after the initial. The original firmware sets up both 2.4 and 5g networks. The most up to date defaults to only setting up as 2.4 unless you hit a very easy to miss check box, so I had to set it up a third time to include that 5g network. After that it's been an amazing device. Streaming on my 4k Vizio P series is appreciably better in all respects. Less artifacts, less blur, even the audio seems to have less crackle and pop. I haven't had a single downgrade of streaming resolution since i got it either. I like it very much. Especially for the sub $150 deal I caught it on.

This is a solid router. I ultimately gave it to my in-laws for use in their condo since I wanted a more out of box mesh network package for my own home. However there are a lot of features in the app, the router puts out a strong signal and can handle fast connections. The center blue ring lights up with a blue light and my kids thing it is cool. Because that is where some of the heat is emanated, my kids think it is a hand warmer.
