Bought this for my mother's house as I was helping her with expenses. Super easy to set up AND configure all the router/FW functions. I set it up to limit use by individual MAC addresses and time of day (so my teenage niece can't stay up late on school night playing fortnite, etc).

The design of this router is so great. We live in a single family home. After setting this up, we noticed there were drops in connecting to the internet, we experienced stalls. We didn’t have this with our old modem so we returned it.

This router is very good. The design is better than those spider-like routers. A recent software update added a feature to automatically determine which of the two wireless bands a device would use and I really liked that. The admin screen allows many settings to be customized.

The design is quite interesting - the glowing blue "eye" has grown on me. As for the performance, this router has held up with many devices watching video and playing games. The ASUS software makes this device easy to manage.

Finicky firmware + Waste of time + No 2.4GHz

It seemed like a great deal until it wasn't.
Best Buy did a great job at the fulfillment and delivery of this order. No complains there whatsoever.
I really thought this would be an affordable solution to my current tech needs. I was planning to make the Blue Cave the main router in an AI Mesh configuration with an existing ASUS router which supports it. To that end I consider myself tech savvy.
I wanted to use the same SSIDs I use currently for convenience of not having to reconnect my devices again
However, I hit snags right from get go when I tried using the existing firmware it shipped with. It had no wireless connectivity even though it was working on wired connections, and I could see the wireless configuration I had setup on it. No WiFi at all. After tinkering with the settings, I finally decided to update the firmware to see if that would help. This should be an easy step but for some reason the firmware it shipped with does not even allow checking for updates as it kept complaining about not being able to check for updates. I had by now wasted 1 hour trying to figure a way out.
Then I tried a manual firmware upgrade from their support site. The official firmware for this device on Asus has not been updated since 2021 and starts with 3.0 while the one on my router was 3.1
Nonetheless I did manage to replace the shipped firmware with the one on the site. By now I've wasted 2 hours behind this fruitless operation
That worked only momentarily as I realized that the wireless setting seemed to be off for 2.4GHz. The Smart band select option on the screen brought up the SSID to show up on my wireless devices but weirdly the devices on 2.4GHz did not connect and also the connected clients list was unable to refresh the list of devices on 2.4GHz. It only allows me to connent to 5GHz band. No matter what I try including disabling the smart band selection option makes any difference. I simply cannot use the 2.4GHz on this router on the official firmware.
I wasted 4 hours trying to simply make this router function like it's supposed to in a dual band mode. God knows what miracles I would need to perform to get it to work in a mesh.
So it looks like I have no choice but to return this router and find another one.

My internet service was getting sketchy and my ISP said the problem was on my end. I replaced my modem and router and with this router, I could remove the signal extender that I'd had to use prior to this purchase. It has been trouble free. I love it.

I bought this Blue Cave to range-extend my first ASUS router (a Big Black Bug) in the far end of the house. I spend 99% of my at-home time well away from the BBB. Its reliability sold me on ASUS, and the BC’s on-sale price didn’t hurt.

Iv'e been using netgear for years and then recently purchased a new netgear router. However it kept dropping connection. Replaced it with a same model, same problem. Purchased this router from Asus with no problems and no drop connection.

It has really great options for controlling your own security. It's faster and dependable. It can even reboot itself on a schedule. My only concern is how hot it gets when I stream 4k. But a laptop chill mat solved that potential issue.

It is a mystery to me why routers go bad. I had an Asus that was only two years old and it stopped working. This Asus was a slight upgrade from 1900 GB to 2600 GB. I have had it for one month and no problems so far. Looks very cool.

I am so impressed with the design. It can do a lot like I can even host my files in the cloud. The control that I have on individual devices and also monitor which device consumes more data.
Likewise there are many!

Doesn't even look like a modem and that why I like it so much, it blends in so well with the rest of pieces on my entertainment shelf. Aside from the aesthetics, this is really good performing router.

Ordered online, returned it. Never set it up for three reasons. 1. it’s AC not AX which was misleading from the Asus youtube channel based on information they provided about wifi speed. 2. It’s freaking huge, even though it looks to be a reasonable size and better looking than all the alien spaceship routers, it takes up too much real estate. Forget about putting it on a normal sized shelf you need a dedicated table. 3. The UI based on youtube videos is a mess. Too cluttered for my liking. I really wanted the robust parental controls, but reconfiguring my whole network for the same potential speeds I already had wasn’t going to be worth it.
If you don’t have AC wifi and have devices that would benefit from the 5ghz channels then this could be worth the effort if you get this on sale for $99 or less. Honestly wouldn’t pay more than $75 especially when networking standards are being changed.
