I did a lot of research on this...C-Net, blogs, Google, etc. Based on user feedback, went with Asus. Years with Linksys, Cisco, frustrated with low signal strenth on lower floors in my home. 2600 Sq. ft home, this Asus is in 1 corner on top floor, and I have a strong signal throughout my home, even outside! Stream movies and X-Box live in opposite corner on lower level of home, NO Problem...no dropped signals, no noticeable lag. EASY install, 5 minutes and done! A little expensive, but well worth it!

Easy setup. All wireless equipment made connection very easily and fast. No dropped connections after 6 months on any equipment. No heat problem but i do keep in on top of my book case. All my kids have been able to connect their phones with no problem. Well worth the money.

After several Linksys routers and a Belkin. This (Asus) by far is the best. CNET reviews helped me decide on this one. For a gamer, this router is for you. I've had this for 6 months now. If you follow the directions, it's easy to set up. It linked to my computer, PS3, and my Android phone with one button click. You can also prioritize each one. It looks very cool too!

Bought this router about a week ago and was able to set it up in 5 minutes since I am using it with fios as the main wireless router.
I was considering buying the Netgear N900 (4500) but since it was 180 I decided to go with the Asus which was my choice before the Netgear came out. Well I do not regret it because my wireless speed went up from 14 download and 5-6 upload speeds to 24-25 download & 25-26 upload speeds and I am 30 feet (1st floor) from the router(2nd floor). I know its only been a week but I will update my review as soon more time passes by but for now I give it 5 stars and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a high end router. I have a windows computer, ps3, apple computer, two iPhones, iPad and no problems

Great router for video and gaming

I have tried several routers for both gaming and video streaming. This is the main object of our household entertainment. I also run an internet based business from my home, so reliability is important.
But the gaming speed is what brought me to this ASUS RT-N56U. It was recommended by another gamer. Mutliplayer/online gaming requires speed, speed, speed. My ISP was fast enough but the equipment slowed everything down. Hearing about the RT-N56U and it's ability to transfer data very quickly, I had to give it a try. The ISP modem/router is now just a modem and the ASUS has made the system excellent as a router. And it is able to maintain multiple streams all at once. your data flow is not interrupted by another user on your network. No hiccups. A must for mutiplayer/online.
No port forwarding needed but it is available. And the QOS settings could not be any easier. Simply choose either gaming or video or internet as the priority and the bandwidth allocated is set and other services can not take it away. And more than one can be set.
I am thrilled with this router for gaming and internet, and video is excellent. Unless you are hard core and want to spend $300-$600 on a gaming router, I would highly recommend the Asus RT-N56U.

Easy & Great Performance

Very happy with the purchase, my older router was only a few years old and worked ok but Netflix would occasionally freeze on the tv and also more items run on WiFi so I bought this router. I can't recommend it enough, super easy setup and wow what a boost in signal and performance, everything runs smoother. I wish I would have not waited so long, you pay more for this modem but I feel confident its money well spent.

Recommended by CNET. This Router performs well and covers my entire 1/3rd acre yard while mowing the grass. It was easy to install, the price was fair and it looks good too.

Awesome addition to my home network where I have 5 computers/laptops, 3 iPhones, 1 Wii, 1 Xbox, 2 iPads, etc on the network at all times! I can go into my backyard and still surf without problems! Accessing my USB hard drive and/or printers via the web is great!

Issues with AT&T Microcell Booster

Set-up was easy for everything except the AT&T Microcell booster. We have the microcell booster because of poor cell phone coverage in our house and depend on this for consistent coverage. The booster would never get a 3G signal. After doing some research it appeared it is the firewall setting with the router. After chatting with AT&T tech support, I reset the router, then reconfigured hook-ups with the microcell yellow plug plugged directly into the modem internet connection, and the router internet connection plugged into the black computer connection on the back of the microcell. I'm not a tech guru, but I believe this hook-up configuration is putting the microcell "in front" of the firewall of the router instead of "behind" it. Works like a charm now, but REALLY frustrating initially.

This Wifi works with all my devices and seems to keep the wifi going without dropouts or needing to have the power recycled. Its been almost 6+ weeks since it last needed a power recycle.

This was a real good router when I first got it, but once Asus released the ASUSWRT firmware (DD-WRT with an Asus skin) it just made it so much better. ASUSwrt supports OpenVPN which just makes life so much easier when connecting back into my network, and lets me poke less holes in the firewall.

I want to like this router, But it disappoints!

I really had high hopes for this router. We have 3 kids streaming home-school classes at the same time for hours a day. We currently use a old Linksys WRT54G that does great, just needs to be rebooted every few days. The Asus installed easy and gave better range. But one of the kids computers had a problem that it would stop and buffer the video repeatedly. Then the other computers had the same problem. Tried updating the firmware, but it did not help. Tested with speedtest.net and pingtest.net. It was all over the place mostly worse than the Linksys. Ping on old Linksys 5ms, on New Asus 45+ms. The Download speed on Asus would test better by a couple MBs with Asus then the next test would be a 6th of the previous test.
I really wanted to use this router, did my research and picked the one with the most positive reviews. But I am taking this one back to BestBuy.

Received my RT-N56U without delay and hooked it up without any problems. Setting the wireless networks were easy. Have 2PC's, TV, a AIOS media player and a Blue-ray all networked. 2 wireless PC's added too. Installing was easy and shouldn't be a problem even for a newbie.
Unfortunately.. the product I received was defective. Loss of internet connections repeatedly, DNS errors.. emailed Asus CS and they were too slow to react. Multiple emails back and forth.. but their response was just TOO TOO SLOW. Brought it back to Best Buy and bought a Netgear N750.
I know this is a review for the RT-N56U.. wish it would have worked as advertised and not sent me a lemon. Unfortunately.. not only did the device fail.. but Asus CS (customer service) failed totally. Redundant e-mails, waste of precious time, they do not communicate well within their own ranks nor to their loyal customers... So I WAS a believer of Asus products but would be wary if having to need to deal with their CS again. If a manufacturer cannot uphold the quality of their products and provide a good CS to their customers.. then yes... I would avoid buying their product again.

Works OK - Remote printing doesn't work

The router works ok, but I don't see any significant improvement over my 4-yr old Linksys. I thought I would be able to print wirelessly with the 2 USB ports on the router, but my Canon printer was not compatible. Turns out not many printers are compatible with this router. I ended up buying a new wireless printer.
