So I bought this bad boi yesterday and here's my first take on this gaming machine. 1) Build Quality and Looks - The build quality of this laptop is solid , mainly made out of hard plastic but don't let that fact deter you. It doesn't feel cheap in any way. In terms of looks - it's solid black all around, the logo doesn't glow nor does the bottom lid of the laptop. It's a very minimalistic look that's non inspiring. It honestly doesn't look like a gaming laptop. Which can either be good or bad depending on taste. If you're looking for a refined subdued look this'll be a perfect fit. If you're looking for a futuristic or otherworldly look, you'll be disappointed. The laptop itself is actually not too heavy, it carries a heft that makes it feel like a solid laptop but not heavy enough where you'd want to use to hands to pick it up and struggle to carry around. 2) Screen Quality - This is a full HD Matte display which means exactly that. It's a nice looking screen where you can see details of photos and videos with ease while having excellent viewing angles. The colors produced seem pretty accurate and are not oversaturated, however, they certainly do not pop. You have on board software options to change the contrast and saturation of the screen which can add a little more life, but not enough change to compare to the color production of a gloss display. I personally enjoy the screen and not having to worry about pesky reflections. Also note - this model has only a 60hz refresh rate. This doesn't bother me at all because I'm a casual gamer and I can always buy an external 144hz monitor. But this can be a deal breaker for some, especially at the $999 price point. I was fortunate to get this at $750. In terms of screen brightness - This isn't the brightest laptop out there, however it's definitely bright enough. I usually play indoors in either dark or brightly lit areas and have no problem enjoying my games or watching videos. However, outside is a different story, you'll definitely start to struggle seeing your videos even at max brightness if it's a bright sunny day outside. 3) Battery Life - The reason this laptop gets four stars instead of five is because of its battery life. It's truly abysmal. The battery life stated is 4 hours, however if you enjoy playing your games at maxed out graphics, it'll only last 30-45 minutes at most. If you're just working on Excell spreadsheets or watching videos here and there, you'll be able to get about 3 hours. This is not a laptop for travel, prepare to keep your charger with you at all times. 4) Performance - this does come with the latest and top tier i7 Intel processor and a entry level graphics card, but only with 8 GB of ram and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I play casual games like World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls Online, and Warframe and it can play all those at max setting with no lag at all. However, if you play more demanding titles like Tomb Raider, you'll want to invest a couple hundred more for the Asus ROG with the Nvida 1660 Ti graphics card or better. - Multitasking - I can keep open 5 chrome tabs and play games at max setting and not have any problems. However, if you like to stream and game at the same time, you'll want to add the extra ram. You can expand ram to a total of 32GB which is awesome. 5) Thermals - I'm not too savvy on thermals, however I can tell you this laptop stay very cool while playing at max setting and having a few tabs open. So cool in fact, the fans rarely ever have the need to kick in and when they do they're extremely quite. Overall - I can say that this laptop is an almost complete package. This is an excellent laptop especially if you can get it on sale. There are a couple minor things that could deter you from buying it, being battery life, screen refresh rate, or if you need a stronger graphics card. But if you're a casual gamer that doesn't do much traveling or you're a professional in the creative field that needs better than average performance, you won't have any qualms with this Asus ROG. Additional notes - 1) The keyboard is backlit and color customizable, however the software for changing the colors works on and off. 2) The speakers - They're not the worst but you'll definitely want to use headphones. The speakers are located on the bottom of the laptop and aren't very loud unless you change the sound setting using the Asus software. Once you change the sound settings, the sound comes to life and is noticeably louder, but you'll still want to use headphones for a truly immersive and good experience.

I had to rate this 4 stars because of its current price. The option wasn’t available but I give this laptop a 3.5/5 If you can find this like I did at 25% off, then it would be a 4 star laptop. The big problem with this laptop is that it’s very cpu heavy. It has a very good processor. Which is really great for people who want to make use of it and just need a basic gpu. It does have a built in gpu but it’s basically the lowest end mainstream gpu currently available. It’s a little faster than a 1050ti which was no slouch at all, so it’s still fine for most games, but it is just super unbalanced compared to the processor. I’d rather have paid an extra $100 to get a 1660 in this or $100 less and get an i5. I understand these options are likely available, but not in an ASUS and not at bestbuy. This isn’t the only shortcut this laptop has taken, the screen is actually half decent as far as viewing angles and it’s an ips screen. It is a 60hz panel, which with a 1650, is perfectly reasonable. However the brightness is very low, I find myself wanting to brighten it up 1 or 2 notches more and cannot. Also something else I didn’t realize, there is no webcam at all. I understand most laptop webcams aren’t very good quality, but I actually use one a lot for online meetings etc. so this is a deal killer for me. It may not be for most other people. These days you just assume a laptop will come with a built in webcam. I don’t want to have to lug around a webcam with me everywhere I go. So this will have to be a return for me unfortunately. The keyboard works fine, it’s nothing out of this world but it’s acceptable. The RGB is nice, you can’t change sections of the keyboard though, it’s all one single color. At this price point this is great. The upgrade path is actually pretty good for a laptop. You obviously cannot change your processor or video card. But you can change out your m.2 ssd, it has a slot for a 2.5” laptop sized hard drive that currently sits empty, you can switch out both sticks of ram for a 32gb maximum. Some laptops in this price range only allow access to one and have the other soldered in. You can also switch out the WiFi card and replace the battery down the road if you need to. The cooling is adequate, but like any laptop it’s going to get toasty and the fans are going to get loud. Also don’t expect to play triple A titles without being plugged in. Over all this is a decent laptop. At full price there are absolutely better options. But on sale for 25% off or even 20% off, it is a good choice because it’s priced like a laptop with an i5 but has a powerful i7 and a 1650. As long as you don’t mind the lack of webcam and the slightly dimmer screen you will have a winner. TLDR: Only buy this one sale. It has an okay screen and no webcam.

It's taken me awhile to review this excellent, elegant, beautiful laptop because I nearly returned it. Why, you wonder? Well I think I can safely say most of us are intimidated by computers- or at least those my age. I'm 64 and this is the first laptop I've bought. I bought a PC once in 2001, lasted 10 years. Been a lot of changes since. I've actually done a great amount of research, kept up to date. I just never liked laptops keyboard and believed they must be inferior to a big ole souped up PC. Well I was wrong. This ASUS ROG 531GT is actually better because you can easily take it anywhere open it up and in less than a minute be ripping your gamer friends to shreds or peacefully coexisting with your networks of social anxieties, I mean friends... Everything about the 531GT is awesome! Just looking at it is exciting!. It's sleek, yet sturdy. The keyboard is almost too sensitive but that's my physical inability- remember I'm 64 years old; hands don't work like they used to. Now the reason I almost returned it is because I told the clerk "16 GB DDRM minimum" and when I got home and start gawking and dissecting I find there's only 8 G of ram. I felt betrayed. I moped for days, stewed in my anger. Our state is on lockdown because of that stupid virus so I called the retail store, lodged my complaint, worked out a return procedure. Then I sent ASUS a email informing them of my intention and I attached a picture of some sort of " chip" that was in the packaging, which by the way is some of the best packaging I've ever seen, and I asked if they new what it was. Duh! Okay, here's the review... Upgradeable laptops with expandable Ram that have top of the line components and installed software to overclock and tweak your GPU and processor. I guess I should of done better research. Don't worry, ASUS already took care of you and put it together so all you gotta do is lift that Beautiful lid and get busy! It is truly a fine laptop, beyond my skill, but I feel like a Pro when I'm on it. You might be wrong, but with ASUS you won't go wrong.

It’s an i7 with a nvidia gtx 1660. 60hz screen (sorry). Runs most games @60+FPS. Boot time is seconds with that 512ssd. 8gig ram is fine for both school work and games but can be upgraded as can add. 5/5 will recommend.

this is my first gaming laptop, and i want to to leave a true feedback about it. fast laptop with SSD. Screen is amazing but it's 60 HZ not as advertised 120 HZ. I played PUPG on it and it was great at medium and high level. cooling fans are kind of quiet. i give 4 stats because of the screen refresh rate and they could've add numeric pad to make it more comfortable. it is light wight and the plastic that made of is good.

After using this gaming laptop for about a year and a half, I have some likes and dislikes. To start, it looks very cool and performs quite well when it comes to gaming, but the battery life only lasts an hour at most when you are doing simple work and 15 mins if your gaming without charging. Unless you plan on keeping this laptop set up at a desk full-time or something I would not purchase.

Good for beginners I’d say, but there are most certainly better ones out there. There are also much more expensive ones. Overall - Good for exactly what I bought it for. Cappin’ N Trappin’

I just want to share how thrilled I am to finally own this beast of a laptop. For 3 days I looked into all types of gaming laptops at this price point. I watched hours of countless reviews on brands like HP, MSI, and Dell. All the competitors have great devices, but when it comes to hardware, temperature control, and overall build quality, the G-series is a clear winner. The intel i7 provides enough power and the Nvidia GTX 1650 was able to run Call of Duty Warzone with zero issues. I really love the keyboard on the G-series lineup. I customized my RGB keyboard to light up to music which is really fun. The only two minor setbacks. The 8gb RAM and the 60 hz refresh rate. The RAM is expandable up to 32 gb, which will make applications run much smoother and will help with cooling. The 60 hz refresh rate isn't a big deal, but there are higher refresh rates within the G-series lineup that match up with today's top competitors, if you're looking for a better visual experience. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and i'm sure it'll be worth every cent :)

The only reason i kept it was i got it for the $749 price, and was excited to get a flashy new laptop after many years of waiting. I'm not gonna lie, its fast, and does what i need for the most part. I feel future-proof with it being able to be expanded to 32gb ram vs. others in same range with 16gb limit. But there are problems. 1. The keyboard lighting randomly goes crazy, and i have to turn the computer off and on to get it to stop flashing..software updates were no help. 2. Battery life used to be good, about three hours with non-performance use. 5 months later i'm averaging 1.5 hours with same use. Other computers running same cpu setup and specs are 4 to 6 hours battery life. Why does this battery life suck so bad under little strain? 3. I take care of my electronics really well. So there's no damage done to it. I recently discovered a pixel area that is brighter than the rest and it really bugs me now that i noticed. 4. Lack of some ports like usb-c, webcam, and a built-in sd card reader is starting to suck now that i need them more. 3 usb ports on only one side is annoying. would like to see one of them in the back. 5. As someone else mentioned, sleep mode not working. I put into sleep mode, closed lid and put in my case today. ..drove a half hour and pulled it out and my bag and computer were really hot with fan's blaring. this has been a constant problem where it should be sleeping but then i randomly hear fans start running. I hope it didn't cause any damage because when i opened and checked core temp it showed 54 degrees celcius! Major flaw! 6. Screen is not very bright. I can't even use outdoors in the shade. 7. I keep it in a clean environment without any dust. It sits on a desk most of the time. I've noticed the fans have been running more often than when i bought and it is running a bit hotter than when new. It gets annoying quick. I have minimal background processes running so it shouldn't be doing this. 8. mousepad sucks! useless! Forget it if you have dry fingers. never thought i would have to lick my finger to use a mousepad. especially during the covid era! I'm glad i didn't pay full price for this, and wish i could exchange it now for something else. I will probably have to do a warranty claim for some problems, which i wouldn't expect to have to do after 5 months of light/average use. It does the job, and has the power, but you'll miss basic features laptops 10 years ago already had, and there shouldn't be so many design flaws and problems 5 months in!

      Dear Jazz,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having multiple problems with this unit. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control, testing and inspections. What you've experienced was not intentional or representative of our brand. Regarding the keyboard lighting and touchpad issues, I would recommend uninstalling Armoury Crate followed by downloading and installing the BIOS, Armoury Crate, ASUS System Control Interface V2, touchpad and chipset drivers from the link below. For the fan, screen and battery concern, I recommend contacting Best Buy for a repair under warranty. I will also forward your feedback to the Product team for review. If you have any general or technical questions, please email me at [email protected] and include case #N200939042 for reference.

Was looking for a fast performance laptop with a 9th gen Intel processor, Windows 10 (not 10S), Backlit KB, min 8GB RAM, HD display, SSD storage and a min processor speed of 2.6 Ghertz - but didn't want to pay $1000 or more. I am not a gamer but saw the Asus Rog on sale at Best Buy for $749. My last laptop was an Asus Notebook and it has held up extremely well. The Rog G531GT met or exceeded all my requirements. I'm extremely happy with this purchase - solid build, sharp looking, fast. I use Duo (multi platform FaceTime app) on my tablet or cell so not having video camera for FaceTime or Conference calls was not an issue. If I take up gaming in the future I have a good entry level gaming laptop, as well. Also, the Best Buy curbside service was fantastic. Took all of 15 mins to purchase on-line and pickup at nearby store.

Fast processing with small resource use when deploying Linux systems, rather than stock Windows 10 operating system. Easy ddr4 ram upgrade and ability to add an additional internal ssd/hd. Keypad and mousepad are responsive and the addition of separate mouse-click buttons is appreciated for quick snaps. No webcam, which is a nice security feature. Cons so far have been lack of separate number pad, laptop runs fairly hot unless placed on proper stand, preferably one that has its own fans underneath laptop, and the keypad is raised too high, it can easily leave marks or dents in the screen when closed and placed in case.

so this is my first ASUS and I have to say, I am most impressed so far. upon opening the package I was awed by the design, weight and feel of the laptop. it is sleek, smooth, and heavy without being obnoxiously weighty. you will know it is solid and wont break if you touch it like some other laptops. I enjoy being able to pick fan speed and the options for customization if I need to in the future (upgrade ram.) it is a simple setup and extremely fast, it came with everything it was supposed to and pickup was simple and fast. I appreciate all the best buy workers helping customers during this time. I recommend this computer.

I really like this unit. It's fast and quiet. Plusses: - Insanely fast 9th gen core i7 - Quiet and silent 512GB SSD - 8GB memory is probably minimal spec for gamers, more than enough for a developer like me - a/c WiFi network adapter makes the most of my internet speed - Solid build - Have owned three ASUS laptops, all of them still work well; the older ones are media players - You can usually wait if it's not on sale Minuses: - Could use another USB port - No media card slot - No optical drive (DVD) - Rendering on an external monitor (via HDMI) is terrible for non-gaming applications. It's unclear whether this is my TV/monitor which handles VGA input well but text is hard to read and still images look almost comic-like. Attempts to adjust TV/monitor and laptop settings have not solved this. The minuses (save for the last one) can be worked around with a USB port multiplexer, a USB adapter, and an external USB DVD drive/burner. ASUS has offered another winner at an accessible price point.

I purchased this notebook with the options of 16gb memory, a 1 TB ssd and RTX 2070 graphics about 4 months ago, and I love this machine. I bought it mostly for video/audio streaming and for video/audio editing and rendering. It handles all of these tasks with ease. I can run multiple video feeds through OBS and stream without any issues. Editing and rendering HD video is quick. My previous Intel Core I-7 with Nvidia was getting a bit dated, and when I upgraded to this machine my editing and rendering time is a fraction of what it used to be. What used to take me an hour to render now takes a few minutes. I also use it for the occasional flight on MS Flight Simulator and some Fortnite. It handles those at full video quality and fps with no problems. I would definitely recommend this machine to others.

I got it on a sale that lasted only a day. At $699 was the best option. The good thing about this laptop it is a simple machine that can be upgraded without any problems. The processor is insanely fast and a good video card. The ram is on low side, but you can add more if you wish to. The built quaility seems great and has some nice aeathetics. The con- speakers make a popping sound. The display is not great but it's not a deal breaker. Thunderbolt port would be great.

This laptop standard is not easily found in Brazil, and I enjoyed my trip to buy it. I am a programmer and the time I am with him has already made the investment worthwhile, although it has been necessary to increase the RAM to at least 16gb and soon I must increase to the maximum. The Screen is unbelievably beautiful, the colors are crisp and the keyboard is very comfortable. Loved it!!
