ASUS - ROG Strix G16 16" FHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 9 HX - 16GB RAM - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti - 1TB SSD The ASUS-ROG Strix G16 's chassis is entirely made of plastic, but the overall build quality is excellent, and its dark gray surfaces aren't as susceptible to fingerprints. The Strix G16 features a new LED light bar on the bottom and illuminated logo and keyboard, so if you like lights, you have a set of colorful lighting with gaming key hotspots, or for users who prefer to be more subtle, you can entirely deactivate them. Performance is good for this laptop, as one would expect from the specifications. The AMD Ryzen 9, combined with the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti on board video chipset, 16GB of RAM that can be upgraded to 64GB, and a fast M2 Gen 4 SSD, is impressive. The added feature of a MUX switch, or multiplexer switch, which is a hardware component that this gaming laptop uses that allows the computer to switch between using its integrated graphics processor (iGPU) and dedicated graphics processor (dGPU), can give you a competitive advantage. According to the manufacturer, “Advanced Optimus takes it further by seamlessly switching between the iGPU and dGPU based on the task, maximizing both performance and battery life,” and it does do its job. The cooling is quite good, even without a laptop cooling pad, and the rear and side exhaust do a really good job of directing the heat away from the laptop, resulting in the keyboard not getting hot like some competitors' laptops. Asus states, “Equipped with an end-to-end vapor chamber, Tri-Fan technology, and Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal, this cutting-edge thermal design ensures your system stays cool and quiet,” which is true. It only gets noisy in extreme circumstances, but it doesn't sound like a jet engine, which the older model gaming laptops accomplish, so this is a significant improvement. The sound is decent for a laptop system, with the Dolby Atmos and built-in array microphone being pluses. But like most gamers, I use a headset with a microphone. I only need the built-in sound part-time. I was surprised that the Ethernet port is only a 1Gig port, as this is a gaming laptop for 2025, and I would have thought that it would have been a 2Gig or 5Gig port. The WiFi 6E (6.5) gives you a faster connection when hooking up to the appropriate network. Also, I was expecting WiFi 7 and felt the WiFi 6E was disappointing. Though this is upgradable (memory and SSD), you would have to remove the back of the machine, for unlike some of the other models in this lineup, it doesn’t have the Maintenance Hatch. I would also like to have some biometric security. A scanner and a Windows Hello Camera would be a big plus since I don’t want to travel with several laptops and would feel more comfortable with these features for added security when doing work tasks. Cons • Only a 1Gig Ethernet port • No Display Port • No WiFi 7 • No upgrade trapdoor (Maintenance Hatch) • No biometric security, no fingerprint sensor, and the Camera does not support Windows Hello • No physical camera shutter • No touchscreen • Gen 4, not Gen 5 SSD Pro • AMD 2.5GHz Ryzen 9 8940HX with 16cores and 32 threads • 1900 x 1200 (WUXGA) 16inch monitor • GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with an MUX switch • WiFi 6.5 (6E) • Keyboard with game area lighting and a good feel • Responsive touchpad • 1TB Gen4 SSD • 16GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM capable of 64GB • 1080P FHD camera • Built-in array microphone • 2-speaker Dolby Atmos system with Smart Amplifier Technology • Battery 90WHrs, 4S1P, 4-cell Li-ion • Decent portable gaming platform at a reasonable price The ASUS-ROG Strix G16 isn’t perfect, but it is a decent machine for the price. I have long used their motherboards and laptops and found them reliable. I tested this with standard productivity software and several games and found the machine suitable for my travel needs or when spending a game night away with my friends. Having a built-in HDMI port to hook up to an external monitor or TV was nice since I am spoiled at home with large HiRez monitors.

At 16” this Asus laptop strikes a nice balance berween being able to game and still be a viable option for traveling. Day one was running Windows and Asus updates, installing and updating Norton 360 and then Battlenet and Call of Duty the last which took a couple hours. Once everything was installed and configured I was pretty a happy with the overall performance. From power off to the Windows login screen to just under 17 seconds, The FHD display does a nice job displaying work in Word and Excel and the graphics in COD using the Extreme setting were very nice for FHD. COD framerates depended on what mode I was in using the F5 key, Silent ran right at 60FPS, switching to Performance boosted the FPS to just under 200 and in Turbo I was getting 230-250FPS. GPU temp on the Turbo setting was pretty consistent at 76C. The sound from the speakers is pretty good, but using my headphones with the 5.1 setting in COD was a definite improvement. I think the 16” Asus ROG Strix is a nice alternative to a full tower gaming system.. it’s small enough and light enough to travel with, unlike many of the 18” laptops and definitely has more backpack options available to protect it while traveling. You could hook this up to a better monitor and I think it would be a decent desktop replacement option.

The ASUS ROG Strix G16 Gaming Laptop is a beautiful and sexy computer beast. It makes me wonder if I should use it to replace my desktop computer. Yes, it is that good! I always enjoy unboxing and setting up an ASUS gaming laptop. This one did not disappoint. The computer is nicely packed and comes in a box with secret compartments. When the front is pulled open, the laptop is pushed up, revealing a drawer with the accessories and documentation. The brushed gray lid has a ROG logo and "FOR THOSE WHO DARE" in a subtle strip across the top. The computer is very well ventilated, with vents along the length of the back, along the sides, across the bottom, and with raised rubber feet for more ventilation. The entire computer is solid and is built with quality in mind. I like that all the connection ports are along the sides instead of the back. The front of the lid has an extended lip for raising the lid and housing the camera/mics. There are rubber pads on the monitor edges to prevent keyboard engagement with the monitor. The track pad is large, and the keys are spacious. They have a smooth texture and a deeper throw than I expected. Upon pressing the power button, this beast came alive. The keyboard's backlighting rotated and pulsed through various colors in a rainbow effect. The gaming keys and the spacebar are translucent, and a color strip below the beveled front lip pulsates in multiple colors. The Windows 11 setup and configuration took barely over 30 minutes. I uninstalled some unnecessary apps, installed my games and benchmark programs, and configured the included Armoury Crate application. I set my desired color schemes and set the default performance to Turbo mode. An ASUS utility notified me that an update was pending. I rebooted and waited for a 20-minute BIOS upgrade. The benchmark programs showed there wasn't much difference between balanced performance and Ultimate GPU mode. However, when I switched to Turbo mode, this is where the stats and the gaming shone. I set Flight Simulator and No Man's Sky to ultra graphics. With Flight Simulator, the graphics are smooth and detailed. Textures of the ground, trees, traffic, and water are highly detailed. Clouds are soft and blended instead of chunky and solid. I noticed a very slight tearing on water textures at a distance. Fan noise is significant with the intense graphics settings, but I'm usually on headphones and not bothered by it. No Man's Sky with ultra graphics settings is also very smooth, and the textures are highly detailed. Fan noise is much lower and is tolerable without headphones. I unplugged the power just for grins and lasted for an hour with No Man's Sky. I'm not surprised, but I expect Overall, I am quite surprised at this laptop's gaming performance, and it is a serious contender for replacing a desktop. With the HDMI and two USB-C ports, I expect a multiple monitor configuration would be easy. I highly recommend the ASUS ROG Strix G16 Gaming Laptop for anyone looking for a high-performing, high-quality computer. This Strix G16 is a powerhouse. It has the AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX, 16GB DDR5 5600 RAM, NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti, and a fast 1TB Gen4 SSD with an extra slot for Gen5 expansion. Weighing in at about 5.5 lbs, it’s on the heavier side, making it less ideal for frequent travel, but this weight comes with good build quality and some serious gaming hardware. It has played everything with no ive thrown at it on ultra settings. Display and Visuals The 16-inch IPS screen offers a smooth 165Hz refresh rate and a 1920 x 1200 resolution, which, while not the sharpest for this size, still delivers crisp visuals and vibrant colors thanks to 100% sRGB coverage. The IPS screen technology ensures wide viewing angles and accurate color reproduction. However, IPS panels generally have lower contrast ratios, so blacks can appear gray in dim settings. The screen brightness peaks at around 300 nits, which is adequate but can be underwhelming in bright environments. This is a notable downside for those who game in well-lit spaces. Performance and Upgradability With the latest Ryzen 9 CPU and RTX 5070 Ti GPU, this laptop delivers top-tier gaming performance and smooth multitasking. The stock 16GB RAM is sufficient for most tasks but may be limiting for heavy multitasking or future-proofing; fortunately, the RAM is user-upgradable. Storage is fast and generous, and the available second SSD slot (supporting Gen5 SSDs) offers excellent upgrade potential, even though the included drive is Gen4. Battery and Cooling Battery life is short during gaming sessions, which is typical for high-performance laptops, but ASUS includes a feature to cap the maximum charge at 80% to help prolong battery health. The cooling system is effective but the fans can get quite loud when playing. Verdict: This is a high-performance gaming laptop with strong upgradability, and lots of features. While its screen brightness and resolution could be better, and it’s a bit heavy with loud fans under load, its strong GPU and CPU, and expandability, make it a strong recommendation from me.

I'm really digging this Asus ROG Strix 16GB. After of course the multitude of updates. I spent hours getting all the updates completed, which was a little aggravating. Out of the box, ( make sure you don’t have it upside down either ) it’s a beautiful machine. STRIX has 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A, HDMI 2.1, Ethernet, an audio jack and the power port. It comes with a very large and bulky power supply, I’m guessing it’s needed to keep this bad boy juiced up. Speaking of the battery doesn’t run long unplugged, a couple hours is about all I got out of it. The fans get cranking but aren’t as obnoxious as some I’ve heard. I plan to upgrade the RAM but for this review I tested it as is out of the box. The STRIX has a cool gamer style to it, with graphics on the case, cool vent ports one the sides, back and bottom, obviously the RGB keyboard and light bar lighting, that is also full customizable and sync-able with all ROG peripherals. It has a 16:10 165Hz screen with an anti-glare film that looks sharp. Video processor is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU, 16GB DDR5 RAM (2 free slots to upgrade), 1TB SSD hard drive. The RAM, fans and SSD have tool less access. Dolby Atmos audio with AI noise cancelling for clear chat and phone calls. In the Aura settings you can go in and customize the light bar and keyboard lighting I mentioned above for different color and motion patterns as well as sync with the screen display. I’m not a heavy gamer but anything I played had zero problems, movies as well, I played with the laptop on the desk and never noticed any extreme over heating or crazy obnoxious fan noises. The size and weight of the laptop are just right it feels, its comfortable and the screen is perfect. The keyboard feels good and has M keys. Mouse pad works well with zero issue. I don’t like the transparent keys and the fact that it’s doesn’t have a fingerprint button. That seems to be pretty common these days on the higher end machines. Other than that, oh and the battery life, I’m very happy overall and would definitely recommend this to a friend or family member.

For the price point, this laptop compromises in areas that may or may not matter to you, while delivering in the areas you'd expect for the price. PERFORMANCE For the price point, this laptop compromises in areas that may or may not matter to you, while delivering in the areas you'd expect for the price. In terms of the GPU and CPU, the price is well worth it for those looking to get into this generation of hardware at a good middle ground, with the mobile version of the 5070Ti with 12gb of GDDR7 VRAM being mostly affordable and able to run anything you desire at essentially any resolution without needing to tune down certain settings. If you are good at tinkering with various graphical modes, then know that the 50 series GPUs have access to Nvidia's various Frame Gen and DLSS4 technologies to get more frames. I play at 1440p on an external monitor running 165hz, and have no issues reaching comfortable framerates even in stressful environments. Your mileage however, will vary on the game, but you should expect excellent performance with the 5070Ti. The AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX CPU inside is also a very competitive CPU performance wise and you won't experience any bottlenecking issues with it. MEMORY RAM can be upgraded, which I had done and recommend for those who want to compliment the hardware well. as 16gb feels like the bare minimum nowadays. Disregard that advice however if you don't often open multiple apps at once, or don't do any sort of development or modeling/animation. DISPLAY The display is where ASUS was lackluster in for this model, with a 1600p screen that feels a little bit cheap compared to Mini LED or OLED screens found on many laptops at this price. However for those who play on external monitors or do not care about the screen, it is only a minor issue and at least no glare was noticed here, so user's discretion. STORAGE The storage is only 1TB SSD with the ability to upgrade, so much like the RAM, getting another SSD installed is worth it for those who store multiple applications, games, or files. COOLING Fan speeds can be adjusted in settings to your liking or performance load, with different options and presets to select. The sound can be loud when not using headphones, however in most scenarios the laptop is actually fairly quiet even in heavy use due to the lower and more efficient power draws needed on average. There are multiple fans (I believe 3), with some specifically dedicated to keeping the CPU and GPU cool. I recommend a cooling pad or stand as well, to avoid thermal throttling in very heavy or prolonged use, as well as to help the life of the laptop. However this is not necessary and depends on where you will place the laptop during use. SOFTWARE Do keep in mind that since these are very recent hardware, you will come across some software hiccups and annoying updates when first turning the thing on. All the usual driver updates, windows installs, and ASUS stuff should be installed at the first bootup. I will note at the time of purchase I did encounter the occasional BSOD, however as of recent updates, I have not encountered any since, so your experience may or may not be the same as mine in that regard. CONCLUSION Overall a great and powerful machine, especially if you decide to use a good monitor. Some aspects, like the screen, can be ignored if you are not really concerned about it, or use it like a mini PC with a monitor connected to it. Other areas, however, may not be so easily ignored such as the RAM and Storage, can be upgraded at your discretion, and I personally recommend it to get the most out of the specs you're getting here.

Purchased this laptop when it was on sale for $1549 and it was an amazing deal! The AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX and RTX 5070Ti is a great combo and you'll be able to run all the latest games flawlessly with high frame rates and likely all settings cranked up. Mind you, the screen is only FHD+ but once you connect it to an external monitor or 4k TV, it really shows off it's power! I'm able to run Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p on Overdrive with full ray and path tracing with DLSS turned on keeping my fps above 120. If you want to play in 4K, you'll have to tune back the settings a bit in order to reach playable frame rates since the 5070Ti has 12gb of VRAM. Still, it ran Cyberpunk 2077 like a beast and if you're only playing on the laptop screen, it'll be spitting out frame rates like it's nobody's business! I do recommend several things for a better experience: 1) Upgrade the RAM to 32 GB ASAP. 16GB is adequate but I decided to upgrade the RAM with some Crucial DDR5 32 gb (16x2) @5600 Mhz and it flies with multiple apps open. The laptop limits the speed to 5200 MHz. You'll sometimes find it on sale at Best Buy for $77. 2) Use the included ASUS Armoury Crate software to switch it to the "Ultimate" GPU setting when gaming (disables the integrated GPU). Also, switch it to Turbo mode with demanding games like CP2077 etc. 3) Purchase a laptop cooler since it can get pretty toasty. Asus placed some really good thermals and enough fans to keep it from getting too hot but I kept the temps much lower with a laptop cooler like a llano v12. All in all, this laptop has one of the best price-to-performance ratios on the market. It was an absolute steal at $1550.

I think i'm an ASUS fanatic. My last 3 laptops have all been asus and have had almost no complaints, i've just decided to keep upgrading to the latest and greatest. Windows 11 home is ok. Even if you're not into gaming you can still apreciate the dynamic display becuase you get a full 165hz 16:10 fhd screen and the response time is flawless. It is weird because I have an A***E phone and i've alway appreicated the response time on those devices but ASUS if right next door. Also the ACR film really help minimize the glare, so you have to be in a super dark room while using your device if you dont want to be. The mobile process is fast but not super fast but the Geforce does have that smoothness that only ASUS provides at their price point. It's expansive so get to adding on or dont. The cooling isnt too loud but you can tell when its on and when its off but if you have headphones in its a non issue. The looks are my face, the raised spreakers are absolutely perfect. love that design. the new highlight design on the laptop face almost reminds me of a light show of a cool car. just adds flavor. over all i love this laptop. no regets.

The Pros: Doesn't burn you alive just writing this review. Great feeling Keyboard Large touchpad decent battery life for a gaming laptop Very fast graphics and cpu Excellent speakers with Dolby access app set up The Cons: Laptop does get off if you look at the temps in armory crate I dont really care for the translucent keys as sometimes can be hard to see in the dark even with the backlight on no Windows hello 1920x1200 for a 5070ti is a little low. Screen brightness is very dull unless you turn up brightness in Nvidia Control panel No HDR Purchased this to replace a $100 less Alienware with an intel cpu and 4070 gpu. This blows that out of the water as it doesn't burn you while typing reviews. Plays games listed below at amazing speeds. Highly recommend this or the soon to be released 2k screen version with the 9000 series amd cpu. Cities skylines 1 and 2 with 100k pop 109 avg fps Sims 4 all exp and some DLC with Mods 250 avg WOW 165 ultra settings COD zombies 100 fps avg Anno 1800/2070 80-120 avg fps All games played while plugged in. unplugged it seems to do the same thing as the ROG ally and cap frames to 30-60fps while on batt.

I do a lot of gaming and some graphic design. I am very happy with this laptop. I've been looking for a laptop for awhile and I was drawn to the positive reviews, the sale price and the raw power of the build. I have since added 2 TB of storage of Samsung 990 PRO which wasn't difficult. I tested the speed of the existing 1 TB SSD and it wasn't far behind in speed. I also ordered 32 GB of memory to boost the performance. It should be easy install after watching a video online. The FHD screen is good but if your looking for something a with a crisper image maybe consider a QUD display. It looks like its possible to upgrade this display but I'll leave the research to you. The fan is loud when your gaming FYI, But for most other tasks I can't really hear the fan.

Great performance for both gaming and productivity. The Ryzen 9 and RTX 5070 Ti combo is super fast, and the 165Hz screen looks smooth. Design is sleek and premium. Only downside is the fan noise when gaming – it gets loud. Otherwise, I’m very happy with it.

A really fast and powerful laptop with great storage. Runs most triple A games on high with a pretty good monitor that can display hdr but unfortunately can’t run it, the only other complaint is maybe the battery life that lasts around 5 hours or less depending on whether or not your on power saving mode. But overall I highly recommend it this product!

This laptop feels like it has good potential. The built-in screen is not great (low brightness and not accurate color). I'm glad I use this with an external monitor that makes up for these shortcomings. I use this laptop for work doing architecture and 3d renders. The laptop is powerful and quick. It does have some cool lighting but that is not important to me. I will say after having this laptop for over a month. I have grown very frustrated and disappointed. The laptop randomly restarts itself sometimes several times per day. Which means I lose any unsaved work and waste time. I have called ASUS customer service and followed their directions which included a full windows reinstall. Which feels like a huge pain considering the random restarts continued. When speaking to ASUS I learned that repairs can take about 4 weeks because they have to be sent out. I wish I would have know that prior to purchase. ASUS also informed me that all repairs would first need to be initiated by Bestbuy for this model. Also not very pleased with Best Buys very short 15 day return window. The price dropped dramatically 2 weeks after purchasing but since I was outside the return window I was not eligible for a price adjustment.

ok, i bought this for a couple of reasons main one, it was ryzen 9 hx, i know not the latest but it sets it apart from the other copy and paste ulta 7 and ultra 9 gaming rigs. Performance was solid! switched out the Ram for 64gb and the nvme with 2tb+4tb. I am in the process of returning it because. after installing the nvme, and reinstalling windows. I got a laptop that refused to boot. it was stuck on the "republic of gamers" logo, wouldn't even show any attempt at posting. removed the ram installed the oem, ram, and nvme combos, still refused, hours past, i tried many things, then suddenly it boots. i think its defective. not sure why or what, really only used it lightly. really unfortunate i really loved having an amd + nvidia system. returning to get the ryzen 9 ai rog maybe, another issue. the screen is horrible. I would reccomend at certain price point. AMD systems are always cheaped out by the manufacture. sad.

This thing is amazing. Being a gaming laptop I was expecting it to be big and heavy, but it's not. It is a nice size and not overly heavy, I already took it on one work trip. My only complaint would be the amount of ram 16gb seemed low considering the rest of the specs. Thankfully that was easily fixed by removing the old ram and adding in 64gb. All you have to do is remove a few screws on the bottom. There is also an extra spot to add another ssd.

This laptop has been amazing, I use it for VR titles like Assetto Corsa (modded), BeamNG, and more. Absolutely no issues. Cooling is rather impressive, using GHelper on the turbo preset, GPU and CPU temps usually max out around 75c. If you have a gaming laptop, you know these temps are low! Display is fine, nothing special. I use it docked anyways 90% of the time so I don't need OLED or 1440p. Battery life is fine, nothing special, you shouldn't expect long battery life from a gaming laptop, they love to be plugged in. Overall an amazing laptop for the price, even a better laptop for the current sale price :D

Overall this is a very stable laptop, it handles all the new games very well and doesnt feel as heavy as it is. I did buy it as a temporary use, so I will be getting rid of it soon, but it is a very solid laptop. Very happy with it.

I bought this laptop almost 2 weeks ago because I was going out of town for a few months and I wanted something that was similar performance wise to my desktop at home, and thats exactly what I got! So far ive had no issues, performance is great, and the build of the entire laptop is gorgeous. I would recommend to anyone that gets this laptop or any asus branded laptop to uninstall armoury crate and install G helper. Its a lot of a less bloated software and super easy to use. Ive tweaked my fan curves easily and undervolted my cpu. It does basically everything armoury crate does except its less of a hassle. If you are in the market for a laptop, this is the one.
