I’ve had this laptop for a couple of weeks now and so far I’m enjoying it. The RTX 5070 looks great while the Ryzen 9 keeps it running smooth. I ran cyberpunk 2077 at regular settings to fully test it at first. Ran smoother than it does on my Xbox series X. It has a nice sleek design. The laptop itself is very light weight. Battery isn’t the best, BUT during setup it gives you an option for battery save mode. What this does on top of multiple things is only allows the battery to fully charge to 80%. In turn this keeps the battery in good condition long term. I did this feature and this may be why my battery died after a couple of hours. The laptop is pretty quiet. I did hear the fans going, but I’ve heard louder, so I’m not complaining. Since I keep it on a fan most of the time to play it say I don’t hear it anyways. If I had to say anything bad about it I would have to say the charger and charger placement. Charger plugs in on the left side and it’s a pretty hefty charger that has a circular plug that goes into the laptop. In 2025 you’d think that it would be a usb c charger, but I’m not an expert on chargers so maybe there’s a reason behind that. Charger plugging in on the left side is a little inconvenient though. I like a laptop with a charger port on the back because I often use my laptop on a fan plugged up to my monitor. There are slots on the back on the laptop though. Not sure if their for the speakers or fans, but I can see why the charger doesn’t plug into the back because of this. I will say the size is perfect. I went through 3 laptops before deciding to get this one. Had a 16 inch Alienware that broke 24 hours out of box. Then 14 inch hp omen that was nice, but 14 inches was too small. To an Alienware 18 inch that ended up being way to big and weighed 10 pounds! This 16 inch light weight is perfect. Easy to find backpacks for and isn’t too heavy to where you feel like your breaking your back. It’s nice for traveling because I can fit it and my work laptop in a single backpack without it getting too heavy. Overall I think it’s a great laptop for the value. Also, I did some research because I was concerned with the 16gb ram thinking it’s not enough. This comes with an extra card slot that’s apparently very easily accessible. Not sure how much ram you can add to where the laptop can’t handle it, but tell me of an Alienware laptop that can do that! Just a really cool last feature I wanted to end my review with. Hope this review helps persuade your purchase and if it does, then enjoy your laptop like I am mine!

The 2025 Asus ROG Strix G16 is an absolute powerhouse. From the start, I was determined not to compromise on either the CPU or GPU, and this laptop delivers on both fronts. I upgraded the RAM to 64GB using G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR5 SO-DIMM modules, and the system runs flawlessly. In the future, I plan to replace the existing 1TB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe™ M.2 SSD with a 4TB PCIe Gen 5 NVMe™ M.2 drive. Every game I’ve played so far runs at max settings with consistently smooth frame rates, so I’m confident this setup will be good to go for the next few years.

My first experience was not good since, when installing the new Doom, it froze and did not respond. After a couple of days at the technical service, I decided to exchange it for a new laptop. So far, it works very well—playing at 1440p is great, and for 1080p, it performs exceptionally, allowing everything to be set to ultra without any issues.
The most critical aspect of the laptop is its very low brightness; even at night and in a dark place, it lacks the best clarity. It is also important to note that it does not support HDR. The audio is average.
The laptop stands out for its processor and graphics card.

Great laptop for running LLM's locally. Impressive graphics and lightning fast. Adequate battery life. The only issue is, while running any Linux distro, you will not get sound out of the internal speakers. I was able to find a patch to get sound from external speakers and ear-buds, via bluetooth. If Asus creates a patch to fix the internal speaker problem while running Linux, I will change my rating to 5 stars! Running Windows out the box, I had no problems.

Unstable Drivers and Hardware Defect

Overall a great laptop. It is built well and performs well. What led met to return the device was the following:
1. Trying to play a video while leaving a game running consistently led to the computer crashing. It would either black screen and become unresponsive, or reboot. Could be early drivers or software bugs.
2. The number of ROPs on the 5070 ti is incorrect. Instead of having 96 ROPs, two separate units I have encountered have 80 ROPs. Its a hardware defect that can't be fixed without an RMA or replacement. I highly recommend checking this with GPU-Z (or equivalent), as they will RMA the device.
3. Lots of BSODs before fully updating all drivers, bios, and software. Pretty standard stuff though.
ASUS support was very helpful and issued an RMA, but decided to return instead. Would advise waiting for reviews or stability improvements before purchasing.

Full Feature Gaming Laptop with an OK Screen

The ASUS ROG Strix G16 G614PR is a highly capable laptop with some amazing performance packed into a usable, everyday format. The laptop has a 16” 1920x1200 IPS display running at 165hz powered by and AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor with Radeon 610M graphics APU for everyday tasks and a Nvidia GeForce RTX5070ti powering all your gaming needs. The laptop comes with a Gen 4 NVMe SSD with a slot for a second, and 16GB of DDR5 5600Mhz (running at 5200 as that is what the CPU can handle) in two 8GB sticks with the possibility of being upgraded to 64GB.
The laptop is a beautiful Eclipse Gray with the ASUS eye emblazon on the lid and ROG running thru the keyboard space. Not one to leave any surface bare of eye candy, ASUS even did a great contrasting matte / shiny logo design on the bottom of the laptop. There is RGB running thru the keyboard and an RGB strip running across the front edge and corners to give the laptop some pop. It can be customized to many different looks and colors to suite your mood. The build quality is top notch. No chassis flex, satisfying keystrokes, no high-pitched annoying whine from the fans at full speed. Just a nice laptop to touch and listen to as well as look at.
The screen as said before is 1920 x 1200, which gives you another 120 pixels in vertical height over a standard 1080p display. It is IPS with 100% in the sRGB color space with a 3ms response time and Nvidia G Sync / AMD FreeSync compatibility to help prevent screen tearing in your games when set up properly. To enable G Sync properly, go into the Nvidia App > Graphics > Global Settings and go to Low Latency Mode – Ultra, and Vertical Sync – On. These will cap your frame rate below your screens max refresh rate to prevent Vsync from kicking in hard, while also reducing your input lag as much as possible. With this enabled, I did not encounter and screen tearing in any game, from the chopper blades in BF2042, to fast building in Fortnite, or anywhere in between.
If you are a set it and forget it kind of person, this laptop is more than powerful enough to run AAA single player games like Cyber Punk 2077 with ray tracing and high graphics settings on and still got 71FPS average which is quite impressive in that game. Now if you turn on Nvidia Frame Generation, I got a constant 157FPS! Frame Gen is still improving but it looked very good with little in the way of artifacting or ghosting that I could see. Frame Gen still adds some input lag so I recommend keeping it off in competitive games like CoD and Marvel Rivals, but it's absolutely worth using in single player or relaxed multiplayer games.
As this is an ASUS laptop, you get some really cool ASUS tech. I’m very impressed with its cooling. It has a raised chassis that allows air to be sucked into its 3 fans better than any other gaming laptop I have used. It also has vents around the WASD keys to help suck air around them to keep them cool while gaming. And yes, I said 3 FANS. The two main fans share heat pipes between the GPU and CPU, VRAM, and VRMs, while the 3rd fan is dedicated to cooling the GPU on another heat pipe. The system has 7 heat pipes in total and 374 fins arranged around the back and side of the laptop, I didn’t see it break 80* in any game I played, no matter how long I played. I’m sure its possible, but that still leaves you with plenty of thermal headroom if you need it. It also can run completely silent when you’re studying or other general Adulting tasks.
ASUS includes WiFi 6E to make sure you get as much speed as possible WiFi, but really wins by including a proper 1Gig RJ45 Ethernet port so you can make sure you have the best connection available if you are near a cable. You also get a 3.5 audio jack, 2 Type C USB 4 ports, and 2 Type A USB3.2 Gen 2 ports, but it could really use another on of those since may devices still use Type A. If you need more than 2 ports, you’ll have to get a dongle. You also get a real HDMI 2.1 that will support up to 4k 120hz on a TV that also has a HDMI 2.1 port.
You also get respectable battery life, which isn’t always a thing in a gaming laptop. It has a 90wH battery, which is sized for airplane travel. With NVIDIA’s Optimus technology, the laptop is able to switch from the dGPU to the iGPU and reduce the screen refresh rate from 165 to 60hz when you’re not doing anything graphically intensive to help save battery life. I was able to get 7+ hours out of the laptop while surfing the web, watching YouTube, and doing general Adulting tasks. DON’T plan on getting anything more than maybe 30 minutes on the battery while doing any heaving gaming, but then again its not designed to power the dGPU on the battery alone. It can also take a 100W USB charger as well
At this price, the main drawback of the laptop is the monitor: it’s not 1440p / 1600p and its not very bright; only 300 nits. While this is plenty inside in a semi dark room with artificial light, this is not enough to be usable outside or in buildings with big windows letting in a lot of natural light, unless all you are doing is typing in MS Word. I would appreciate a more usable minimum 400 nits in these situations. The fact that this laptop costs $2,000 at the time of this review and has a 1200p screen instead of 1440p or 1600p like plenty of its competition comes with. It also does not have a web cam that is compatible with Windows Hello, nor does it have a fingerprint reader, another thing on plenty of its competition at this price point.
In the end, this laptop is typical ASUS quality with an overbuilt design and great performance, with a lackluster screen to bring it back down to Earth. If outright game detail is more your cup of tea, look to the competition for what you need. If you can live with a 1200p screen with premium internals that are cooled superbly, with plenty of creature comforts and great performance, this is your laptop.

Verdict: The 16” ASUS ROG Strix G16 laptop is a fantastic gaming companion for home and travel. It’s designed for gaming performance and equipped to handle the most rigorous games. ASUS continues to impress!
First impressions. The 16” screen looks large enough; I’ve had 17” and 15” screens. I think 16” is the sweet spot; it’s big enough, and still easily fits in my backpack. The hinges for the screen are fairly prominent, but I like it. I love the transparent keys, what a cool accent! The undercarriage looks awesome, and clearly it works since the laptop stays cool.
Design. I love the dedicated M keys. Great for gaming, streaming, and video chat. The lighted keys and light bar can be customized for color and patterns. The light bar in the front of the laptop is so cool! Finally, you can customize the desktop background to shift colors along with the keys and light bar in the Aura settings. I love it!
Performance. I was excited to play Elder Scrolls IV (Oblivion) for a few days on this laptop. I started with using just the laptop screen, 1920x1200 (WUXGA), averaging 130-150 FPS with perfectly smooth graphics and gameplay. Then, I connected a 27” ASUS 4K ROG Strix monitor. At 3840x2160 (4K) with V-Sync on, I was getting exactly 60 FPS, synched across both devices. With V-Sync off, I was getting around 100 FPS. Game play was fast, smooth, and no tearing. Integrated speakers are very capable and loud. The keyboard types well and the keypad is generous. Even on high-performance setting, the laptop stayed remarkably cool and pretty quiet relative to other machines I have used.
Specs. This is a very compelling performance package. The AMD Ryzen 9 8000 is fast and powerful. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti can handle any and all graphic requirements from the latest games with a dedicated 12GB DDR7. 1TB of storage is fine for most people, but it’s probably not enough for serious gamers (Elder Scrolls IV alone was ~120GB); I plan to add another 1TB if there is an extra slot. 16GB of RAM is fine for the vast majority of daily uses, but 32GB would better match the rest of the specs on this computer to maximize heavy multitasking and gaming.
Things I love:
- Great performance package for almost any gaming and graphics need
- Excellent processor and graphics card
- 1TB SSD provides fast startup
- I am very happy with the 16” screen; perfect for home and travel
- Screen resolution is good (above HD, but not 4K)
- Exceptional design that keeps the computer cool and delivers convenient features for gamers
- Beautiful backlit keys and light bar, all coordinate by Aura
- Armory Crate allows for customization of all game settings and lighting
- Two-way AI noise cancellation for chat, video, and streaming!
- Adequate number of ports
Things I don’t love:
- I wish it had more RAM. Considering the other specs, 32 GB of RAM would have made this machine perfect
- I wish the three LEDs below the screen actually used the other adjacent lines, for example for the battery indicator to actually use all four bars to simulate battery level
- The webcam does not have a privacy shutter
- Webcam is not compatible with Windows Hello and there is no fingerprint reader (to my surprise)
Overall, I am thrilled with this laptop. While I would change the few minor things above, these are all minor. I think 16” is optimal for both home (with external monitors or not) and for travel, and with the included specs, this is a great setup. I highly recommend ASUS in general, and this laptop specifically.

A great, fast laptop with premium touches

Simply put, the 2025 ASUS ROG Strix G16 is pretty awesome. It offers blazing fast performance from both the CPU and GPU, an ample amount of RAM and storage, and plenty of customization options when it comes to lighting.
The materials and build quality are all really great, even compared to previous ROG laptops I've tested. The outer surface behind the monitor is metal, as is the deck of the laptop. The hinges are also metal, and feel much stronger than past ROG laptops. The bottom cover is molded plastic with lots of cool design touches, and only 10 small Philips-head screws stand in the way of upgrades.
There is essentially NO flex in the deck, and there is ample space to rest your palms and wrists. The trackpad is smooth and feels great to use, with a nice premium clickiness. The keyboard offers a good deal of travel and is very comfortable to type on (I'm writing this review on it now).
The only thing I don't like about the keyboard is the transparent QWER and ASDF keys, which are a bit distracting and hard to see with most kinds of backlight. I also miss a 10-key and dedicated Home, End, PgUp, PgDn buttons, but in this form factor, it would make the keyboard really cramped, so I get why they left it out.
The screen is set to 1900 x 1200 resolution, at 165 Hz, and gets quite bright. I find it very good for games, and I am actually surprised how amazing it looks for video. The 165 Hz is quite smooth, but the best gaming experience comes when the computer is in Performance or Turbo mode. This can make the fans quite loud, but not louder than other high-end gaming laptops on the market. That said, I have noticed that Silent mode is not Silent when the game demands some graphical performance.
The sound is good, but it's a laptop, so don't expect to hear much under 150 Hz. The speakers are located on the bottom of the laptop at the front sides, which makes them quite audible. They're tiny little guys, so a bit tinny and maybe a little barky in the upper midrange. Totally acceptable for watching TV shows, Zoom calls, and more.
The camera is... a camera. Fine for video calls and not much else. It is not able to do Windows Hello, but I honestly don't much like that anyway, so no problem for me.
Of course, one of the joys/pains of ASUS ROG laptops is the Armoury Crate software, which allows you to customize so much about the experience of using the computer that it can be a bit daunting and difficult to find all the settings and options buried in various screens. One thing I really like is that ASUS has come up with some very usable lighting presets that make it easy to find something great without too much fiddling.
Speaking of lighting, the light bar around the front of the laptop base is my absolute favorite cosmetic feature of this laptop. It gives a "ground effects" feeling like a super customized car, and I really love the way it looks.
The overall design of the ROG Strix G16 is really understated with the lighting effects off from a few feet away, meaning you could get by using this laptop for work, and then fire up the light show after hours when it's time to game.
All in all, I am extremely pleased with this laptop, and I think anyone who wants to play AAA games will be as well. The ROG Strix G16 is a premium product with a great feel, and really performs well. Other than my tiny gripes about the transparent keys and lack of a 10-key, I have nothing bad to say.
Highly recommended.

I'm a big gamer and love gaming life, always on the lookout for new gears that feed my gaming obsession. I own several gaming consoles, handhelds, a gaming PC, and laptops, so when I saw the Asus ROG Strix, it immediately caught my eye. I've been a fan of Asus for their reliability and reputation in the gaming space, especially with PCs and handhelds. I've used my ROG Ally for two years now, and this ROG Strix laptop perfectly complements it.
The design is striking, with unique ROG design that has Asus’s fingerprint on it. One downside, though, is the lack of USB-C PD charging. Instead, it uses a standard power adapter, which feels outdated in 2025. The power brick is bulky and eats up a lot of space in my backpack. Even when I tried using my 300W PD charger, the laptop displayed a warning message asking me to use a faster power source.
Another minor drawback is that the front-facing camera doesn't support Windows Hello for facial recognition. Still, the laptop packs impressive specs that justifies that. The front RGB light strip is stunning and adds a cool environment in dark. It syncs with the keyboard RGB and is fully customizable.
In terms of performance, this machine is a beast. It features an AMD Ryzen 9 HX, 16GB of RAM, a 12GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, and a 1TB SSD. The inclusion of a MUX switch for the GPU is a nice touch, improving gaming performance and responsiveness. Cooling system is efficient, although the fans can get loud in performance mode. Thankfully, they do their job well, with heat being pushed out from the rear and side vents. In silent mode, like when I was streaming from Xbox Cloud, the fans were barely heard.
The keyboard feels premium, with a satisfying click and solid base. Its top surface is well-designed, with the ROG word spelled out across the top, giving it a distinctive look. There are also plenty of one-click shortcuts for quick access to features. I/O ports are plenty, which is great. My other dislike is the screen brightness: while it has a 165Hz FHD panel, the brightness tops out at 300 nits, which makes it feel a bit dim even at full brightness.
Overall, my experience has been excellent. The laptop delivers smooth, high-end performance, and the design is uniquely stylish and clearly made for gamers with sturdy hinges. Asus Armuory Crate is my best companion app that provides function customization, drivers update, and more.

ASUS - ROG Strix G16 16" FHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 9 HX - 16GB RAM - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti - 1TB SSD
The ASUS-ROG Strix G16 's chassis is entirely made of plastic, but the overall build quality is excellent, and its dark gray surfaces aren't as susceptible to fingerprints. The Strix G16 features a new LED light bar on the bottom and illuminated logo and keyboard, so if you like lights, you have a set of colorful lighting with gaming key hotspots, or for users who prefer to be more subtle, you can entirely deactivate them.
Performance is good for this laptop, as one would expect from the specifications. The AMD Ryzen 9, combined with the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti on board video chipset, 16GB of RAM that can be upgraded to 64GB, and a fast M2 Gen 4 SSD, is impressive. The added feature of a MUX switch, or multiplexer switch, which is a hardware component that this gaming laptop uses that allows the computer to switch between using its integrated graphics processor (iGPU) and dedicated graphics processor (dGPU), can give you a competitive advantage. According to the manufacturer, “Advanced Optimus takes it further by seamlessly switching between the iGPU and dGPU based on the task, maximizing both performance and battery life,” and it does do its job. The cooling is quite good, even without a laptop cooling pad, and the rear and side exhaust do a really good job of directing the heat away from the laptop, resulting in the keyboard not getting hot like some competitors' laptops. Asus states, “Equipped with an end-to-end vapor chamber, Tri-Fan technology, and Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal, this cutting-edge thermal design ensures your system stays cool and quiet,” which is true. It only gets noisy in extreme circumstances, but it doesn't sound like a jet engine, which the older model gaming laptops accomplish, so this is a significant improvement.
The sound is decent for a laptop system, with the Dolby Atmos and built-in array microphone being pluses. But like most gamers, I use a headset with a microphone. I only need the built-in sound part-time.
I was surprised that the Ethernet port is only a 1Gig port, as this is a gaming laptop for 2025, and I would have thought that it would have been a 2Gig or 5Gig port. The WiFi 6E (6.5) gives you a faster connection when hooking up to the appropriate network. Also, I was expecting WiFi 7 and felt the WiFi 6E was disappointing.
Though this is upgradable (memory and SSD), you would have to remove the back of the machine, for unlike some of the other models in this lineup, it doesn’t have the Maintenance Hatch. I would also like to have some biometric security. A scanner and a Windows Hello Camera would be a big plus since I don’t want to travel with several laptops and would feel more comfortable with these features for added security when doing work tasks.
Cons
• Only a 1Gig Ethernet port
• No Display Port
• No WiFi 7
• No upgrade trapdoor (Maintenance Hatch)
• No biometric security, no fingerprint sensor, and the Camera does not support Windows Hello
• No physical camera shutter
• No touchscreen
• Gen 4, not Gen 5 SSD
Pro
• AMD 2.5GHz Ryzen 9 8940HX with 16cores and 32 threads
• 1900 x 1200 (WUXGA) 16inch monitor
• GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with an MUX switch
• WiFi 6.5 (6E)
• Keyboard with game area lighting and a good feel
• Responsive touchpad
• 1TB Gen4 SSD
• 16GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM capable of 64GB
• 1080P FHD camera
• Built-in array microphone
• 2-speaker Dolby Atmos system with Smart Amplifier Technology
• Battery 90WHrs, 4S1P, 4-cell Li-ion
• Decent portable gaming platform at a reasonable price
The ASUS-ROG Strix G16 isn’t perfect, but it is a decent machine for the price. I have long used their motherboards and laptops and found them reliable. I tested this with standard productivity software and several games and found the machine suitable for my travel needs or when spending a game night away with my friends. Having a built-in HDMI port to hook up to an external monitor or TV was nice since I am spoiled at home with large HiRez monitors.

The ASUS ROG Strix G16 Gaming Laptop is a beautiful and sexy computer beast. It makes me wonder if I should use it to replace my desktop computer. Yes, it is that good!
I always enjoy unboxing and setting up an ASUS gaming laptop. This one did not disappoint. The computer is nicely packed and comes in a box with secret compartments. When the front is pulled open, the laptop is pushed up, revealing a drawer with the accessories and documentation. The brushed gray lid has a ROG logo and "FOR THOSE WHO DARE" in a subtle strip across the top. The computer is very well ventilated, with vents along the length of the back, along the sides, across the bottom, and with raised rubber feet for more ventilation. The entire computer is solid and is built with quality in mind.
I like that all the connection ports are along the sides instead of the back. The front of the lid has an extended lip for raising the lid and housing the camera/mics. There are rubber pads on the monitor edges to prevent keyboard engagement with the monitor. The track pad is large, and the keys are spacious. They have a smooth texture and a deeper throw than I expected.
Upon pressing the power button, this beast came alive. The keyboard's backlighting rotated and pulsed through various colors in a rainbow effect. The gaming keys and the spacebar are translucent, and a color strip below the beveled front lip pulsates in multiple colors.
The Windows 11 setup and configuration took barely over 30 minutes. I uninstalled some unnecessary apps, installed my games and benchmark programs, and configured the included Armoury Crate application. I set my desired color schemes and set the default performance to Turbo mode. An ASUS utility notified me that an update was pending. I rebooted and waited for a 20-minute BIOS upgrade.
The benchmark programs showed there wasn't much difference between balanced performance and Ultimate GPU mode. However, when I switched to Turbo mode, this is where the stats and the gaming shone. I set Flight Simulator and No Man's Sky to ultra graphics. With Flight Simulator, the graphics are smooth and detailed. Textures of the ground, trees, traffic, and water are highly detailed. Clouds are soft and blended instead of chunky and solid. I noticed a very slight tearing on water textures at a distance. Fan noise is significant with the intense graphics settings, but I'm usually on headphones and not bothered by it. No Man's Sky with ultra graphics settings is also very smooth, and the textures are highly detailed. Fan noise is much lower and is tolerable without headphones. I unplugged the power just for grins and lasted for an hour with No Man's Sky. I'm not surprised, but I expect
Overall, I am quite surprised at this laptop's gaming performance, and it is a serious contender for replacing a desktop. With the HDMI and two USB-C ports, I expect a multiple monitor configuration would be easy. I highly recommend the ASUS ROG Strix G16 Gaming Laptop for anyone looking for a high-performing, high-quality computer.

ASUS Scores Again -- Best Gaming Laptops

My son starts high school soon, so my family decided it was time to upgrade the family computer. Quality and “future-proofing” is very important to us with computers, as we have purchased budget laptops that within a couple of years can’t keep up with the processing power/memory requirements. It becomes a frustrating process to determine how (and even if) I can upgrade the RAM to keep pace.
So when it came to finding a computer, we decided that it made the most sense to get a laptop for portability, and we wanted something that contained a lot of power to satisfy gaming habits while also functioning as a hub for family activities. We got an ASUS TUF A16 for my son a couple of years ago, and we confirmed that it is better to get a high quality laptop that does not need to be replaced as often.
We decided on the new ASUS ROG Strix G16 and it is outstanding!
It has a 16" FHD 165Hz screen (it looks absolutely stunning), 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD all decked out with an Eclipse Gray color that just looks cool. But that’s just the opening act…
The AMD Ryzen 9 HX paired with that RTX 5070 Ti is just ridiculous—every game has been run on the Best/Ultra settings. We have been playing a lot of Apex Legends and Marvel Rivals with epic and ultra style settings, which makes these games even cooler. There are several settings that we weren’t even aware of all of the different graphics that were available (even though we were playing on very high settings previously) – the games are just more fun when you can play them with all effects.
So then we decided to see how good this machine really is – we opened numerous tabs and started running multiple streaming videos without a hiccup. We’re really excited to see what games will be coming in the future, as we should be set with this ASUS Strix G16 for a while.
The fans aren’t too loud and keep everything cool (no noticeable overheating that has impacting play), but just make sure you bring the power brick (which is on the bigger side). While it’s a very good machine with good battery life, if you want to get the most out of it, you won’t want to use it in battery mode.
While this machine is awesome, there is a bonus item that I wanted to mention, as we were not expecting it. While unboxing the first time, it was clear there was pride in the Strix G16 and the box was high quality cardboard – so when we quickly turned it on and saw that there was PULSATING LIGHTING at start up that made the entire unboxing experience perfect. It continues to add a cool factor that reminds me of the neon “underglow” on some cars. We’ve customized it so it pulses while gaming. Not necessarily functional, but a premium cool factor for the kids when their friends come over.

Strix Rox!

I'm really digging this Asus ROG Strix 16GB. After of course the multitude of updates. I spent hours getting all the updates completed, which was a little aggravating. Out of the box, ( make sure you don’t have it upside down either ) it’s a beautiful machine. STRIX has 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A, HDMI 2.1, Ethernet, an audio jack and the power port. It comes with a very large and bulky power supply, I’m guessing it’s needed to keep this bad boy juiced up. Speaking of the battery doesn’t run long unplugged, a couple hours is about all I got out of it. The fans get cranking but aren’t as obnoxious as some I’ve heard. I plan to upgrade the RAM but for this review I tested it as is out of the box. The STRIX has a cool gamer style to it, with graphics on the case, cool vent ports one the sides, back and bottom, obviously the RGB keyboard and light bar lighting, that is also full customizable and sync-able with all ROG peripherals. It has a 16:10 165Hz screen with an anti-glare film that looks sharp. Video processor is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU, 16GB DDR5 RAM (2 free slots to upgrade), 1TB SSD hard drive. The RAM, fans and SSD have tool less access. Dolby Atmos audio with AI noise cancelling for clear chat and phone calls.
In the Aura settings you can go in and customize the light bar and keyboard lighting I mentioned above for different color and motion patterns as well as sync with the screen display.
I’m not a heavy gamer but anything I played had zero problems, movies as well, I played with the laptop on the desk and never noticed any extreme over heating or crazy obnoxious fan noises.
The size and weight of the laptop are just right it feels, its comfortable and the screen is perfect. The keyboard feels good and has M keys. Mouse pad works well with zero issue.
I don’t like the transparent keys and the fact that it’s doesn’t have a fingerprint button. That seems to be pretty common these days on the higher end machines. Other than that, oh and the battery life, I’m very happy overall and would definitely recommend this to a friend or family member.

Nice travel gaming laptop

At 16” this Asus laptop strikes a nice balance berween being able to game and still be a viable option for traveling.
Day one was running Windows and Asus updates, installing and updating Norton 360 and then Battlenet and Call of Duty the last which took a couple hours.
Once everything was installed and configured I was pretty a happy with the overall performance. From power off to the Windows login screen to just under 17 seconds, The FHD display does a nice job displaying work in Word and Excel and the graphics in COD using the Extreme setting were very nice for FHD.
COD framerates depended on what mode I was in using the F5 key, Silent ran right at 60FPS, switching to Performance boosted the FPS to just under 200 and in Turbo I was getting 230-250FPS. GPU temp on the Turbo setting was pretty consistent at 76C.
The sound from the speakers is pretty good, but using my headphones with the 5.1 setting in COD was a definite improvement.
I think the 16” Asus ROG Strix is a nice alternative to a full tower gaming system.. it’s small enough and light enough to travel with, unlike many of the 18” laptops and definitely has more backpack options available to protect it while traveling. You could hook this up to a better monitor and I think it would be a decent desktop replacement option.

I think i'm an ASUS fanatic. My last 3 laptops have all been asus and have had almost no complaints, i've just decided to keep upgrading to the latest and greatest.
Windows 11 home is ok.
Even if you're not into gaming you can still apreciate the dynamic display becuase you get a full 165hz 16:10 fhd screen and the response time is flawless.
It is weird because I have an A***E phone and i've alway appreicated the response time on those devices but ASUS if right next door.
Also the ACR film really help minimize the glare, so you have to be in a super dark room while using your device if you dont want to be.
The mobile process is fast but not super fast but the Geforce does have that smoothness that only ASUS provides at their price point.
It's expansive so get to adding on or dont.
The cooling isnt too loud but you can tell when its on and when its off but if you have headphones in its a non issue.
The looks are my face, the raised spreakers are absolutely perfect. love that design. the new highlight design on the laptop face almost reminds me of a light show of a cool car. just adds flavor. over all i love this laptop. no regets.

This is the laptop for gaming. The 16" inch screen is the perfect size to game or watch a movie. The laptop handles the graphics without hesitation. The cooling system is whisper quiet. One of the features is the customizable backlight keyboard and trim lights. Setup can be from a solid color to all colors. It can also be modified in different modes to the users preference. The performance of the laptop itself is outstanding with the Nvidia GPU and 32GB of DDR5 Memory. It has a power saver mode when using just the battery power. I personally noticed that the battery drained faster using the keyboard backlight features when playing games. The laptop is super fast when loading applications and games. No lag was noticed while playing games online. The sound is superb, its loud enough to listen comfortably but lacks a little in bass. But its expected. The laptop supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and runs on Windows 11. Overall I highly recommend this laptop to anyone in the market for a gaming laptop. This one is it.

For the price point, this laptop compromises in areas that may or may not matter to you, while delivering in the areas you'd expect for the price.
PERFORMANCE
For the price point, this laptop compromises in areas that may or may not matter to you, while delivering in the areas you'd expect for the price. In terms of the GPU and CPU, the price is well worth it for those looking to get into this generation of hardware at a good middle ground, with the mobile version of the 5070Ti with 12gb of GDDR7 VRAM being mostly affordable and able to run anything you desire at essentially any resolution without needing to tune down certain settings. If you are good at tinkering with various graphical modes, then know that the 50 series GPUs have access to Nvidia's various Frame Gen and DLSS4 technologies to get more frames. I play at 1440p on an external monitor running 165hz, and have no issues reaching comfortable framerates even in stressful environments. Your mileage however, will vary on the game, but you should expect excellent performance with the 5070Ti. The AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX CPU inside is also a very competitive CPU performance wise and you won't experience any bottlenecking issues with it.
MEMORY
RAM can be upgraded, which I had done and recommend for those who want to compliment the hardware well. as 16gb feels like the bare minimum nowadays. Disregard that advice however if you don't often open multiple apps at once, or don't do any sort of development or modeling/animation.
DISPLAY
The display is where ASUS was lackluster in for this model, with a 1600p screen that feels a little bit cheap compared to Mini LED or OLED screens found on many laptops at this price. However for those who play on external monitors or do not care about the screen, it is only a minor issue and at least no glare was noticed here, so user's discretion.
STORAGE
The storage is only 1TB SSD with the ability to upgrade, so much like the RAM, getting another SSD installed is worth it for those who store multiple applications, games, or files.
COOLING
Fan speeds can be adjusted in settings to your liking or performance load, with different options and presets to select. The sound can be loud when not using headphones, however in most scenarios the laptop is actually fairly quiet even in heavy use due to the lower and more efficient power draws needed on average. There are multiple fans (I believe 3), with some specifically dedicated to keeping the CPU and GPU cool. I recommend a cooling pad or stand as well, to avoid thermal throttling in very heavy or prolonged use, as well as to help the life of the laptop. However this is not necessary and depends on where you will place the laptop during use.
SOFTWARE
Do keep in mind that since these are very recent hardware, you will come across some software hiccups and annoying updates when first turning the thing on. All the usual driver updates, windows installs, and ASUS stuff should be installed at the first bootup. I will note at the time of purchase I did encounter the occasional BSOD, however as of recent updates, I have not encountered any since, so your experience may or may not be the same as mine in that regard.
CONCLUSION
Overall a great and powerful machine, especially if you decide to use a good monitor. Some aspects, like the screen, can be ignored if you are not really concerned about it, or use it like a mini PC with a monitor connected to it. Other areas, however, may not be so easily ignored such as the RAM and Storage, can be upgraded at your discretion, and I personally recommend it to get the most out of the specs you're getting here.

A laptop for those with disposable income, a strong desire to leave the laptop docked/attached to a charger and does not want to use cloud gaming – ever?
What was impressive with this device?
Keyboard and front edge lighting, transparent qwerasdf keys and space bar.
Movie & streaming playback quality and sound was phenomenal.
Downloaded or emulated games played very well. No hiccups playing Goldeneye or Crusin’ on project64 or playing any downloaded games through my xbox app. Using a wired controller was best for response time and had no input delays, but I did have a few issues when bluetooth connecting my xbox remote.
What is bad?
ASUS Support: I contacted them 3 days ago to see what I could do to fix or reduce all of the problems I have listed below, and nobody has reached back out to me yet.
Battery Life: No matter what I did on this laptop, while not connected to a charger I was losing 2-4% battery life PER MINUTE. For 3 different use cycles, a 100% battery was drained down to less than 30% battery in 45 minutes. The first test, I just had windows updates, ASUS software updates, and a game downloading in the background. 45 minutes later, power saving kicked in and I had to connect the laptop to a charger. For the second test I went through some emails, played Microsoft solitaire for 20 mins, and had the keyboard backlight on, which produced the same results (after 45 minutes, I was prompted to plug it back into the charger.) For the last test, I have been trying to take some screenshots while writing this review…I’m at the 20 minute mark and I lost 40% of my battery life already ☹
Cloud Gaming: These aren’t the non-downloaded games you are looking for… I tried to use xbox cloud gaming three different times, with 3 different games and all of them were blurry/choppy, had severe input lag, and were entirely UNPLAYABLE.
So, why 2 stars?
Since the retail price of this laptop is $2,000, and is touted as a gaming laptop, how is it this device cannot play any games from the cloud, and no matter how you use it, you can only leave it off a charger for no more than 50 minutes before you hit critical battery drain levels?
If you have a really short attention span (to stop what you are doing to run and plug this back into a charger) or if you hit it big on crypto or in the last bull market cycle on some stocks, this might be the laptop for you. If you had an expectation to play all kinds of games with this laptop or actually be able to use it for more than an hour off the charger then my suggestion is to keep looking.

This Strix G16 is a powerhouse. It has the AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX, 16GB DDR5 5600 RAM, NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti, and a fast 1TB Gen4 SSD with an extra slot for Gen5 expansion. Weighing in at about 5.5 lbs, it’s on the heavier side, making it less ideal for frequent travel, but this weight comes with good build quality and some serious gaming hardware. It has played everything with no ive thrown at it on ultra settings.
Display and Visuals
The 16-inch IPS screen offers a smooth 165Hz refresh rate and a 1920 x 1200 resolution, which, while not the sharpest for this size, still delivers crisp visuals and vibrant colors thanks to 100% sRGB coverage.
The IPS screen technology ensures wide viewing angles and accurate color reproduction. However, IPS panels generally have lower contrast ratios, so blacks can appear gray in dim settings.
The screen brightness peaks at around 300 nits, which is adequate but can be underwhelming in bright environments. This is a notable downside for those who game in well-lit spaces.
Performance and Upgradability
With the latest Ryzen 9 CPU and RTX 5070 Ti GPU, this laptop delivers top-tier gaming performance and smooth multitasking.
The stock 16GB RAM is sufficient for most tasks but may be limiting for heavy multitasking or future-proofing; fortunately, the RAM is user-upgradable.
Storage is fast and generous, and the available second SSD slot (supporting Gen5 SSDs) offers excellent upgrade potential, even though the included drive is Gen4.
Battery and Cooling
Battery life is short during gaming sessions, which is typical for high-performance laptops, but ASUS includes a feature to cap the maximum charge at 80% to help prolong battery health.
The cooling system is effective but the fans can get quite loud when playing.
Verdict:
This is a high-performance gaming laptop with strong upgradability, and lots of features. While its screen brightness and resolution could be better, and it’s a bit heavy with loud fans under load, its strong GPU and CPU, and expandability, make it a strong recommendation from me.
