Cannot upgrade to Windows 11, Asus refused to help

High spec laptop. The vent is a bit of a concern since it blows hot air right at the screen. Windows 11 upgrade was a no go for me and Asus refused to help further, and told me to contact MicroSoft for help. Then I spent 4 hours with Microsoft level 1 tech and level 2 tech. Still can't upgrade to Windows 11. Level 2 tech told me to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10 first, also failed.

I have had nothing but problems with this laptop. So many software issues from getting windows ready errors, where it is stuck on the screen for hours to security updates being corrupted. All I want to do is use my computer. Not to mention the asus command center looks like it was designed by a child and operates the same.

    Great Gaming Laptop

I purchased my laptop online in an open box-excellent condition for a great price. The shipping was quick and it arrived at my house in 1 day from Rhode Island and I live in Indiana. The packaging was solid as it came in the original box that was placed into a bigger box with bubble wrap. The first thing I noticed after unboxing it was that the size is about perfect for a laptop. It is bigger than my work Dell laptop (15"), but smaller than my previous home laptop (17"). The 16" screen is very vibrant and colorful compared to my old laptop and the colors pop on the home screen. I was pleasantly surprised with how fast it boots up. From pushing the power button to opening the home screen takes less than 6 seconds when you use your fingerprint to log in. i have upgraded the RAM to 24 GB (1 8GB soldered to the mainboard and 1 16GB added to extra slot). I have also purchased and am waiting on a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVMe SS Drive to add to the second NVME slot on the laptop and will update once that has been added. As expected with a solid GPU with the RTX 3060, and the Intel i-9 processor it is very responsive and quick, but sometimes under load, the fan does get a little loud. This is to be expected with the heat from the processors. The onboard speakers are OK, but not spectacular. I have been using my gaming headset so the noise is not noticeable as much, but is noticeable to other people around. Make sure to do the updates that are requested from NVIDIA and ASUS after first starting it up so that you have the latest drivers and software to help it run efficiently. With a good internet connection, it does not take very long for the updates. I have only loaded about 4 games on it so far and I have been able to run them with very little stuttering or other issues. I have been able to run MSFS 2020 on high settings with hardly any issues and Star Wars Squadrons runs like a champ. My son installed Minecraft and it looks beautiful on the screen compared to what I remember when it first came out years ago. Pros: Nice Screen Fast Good Processor and GPU Cons: Loud Fan Battery Life I would recommend this laptop to someone who is looking for a good gaming laptop that is not worried about playing 4k.

In 2nd round RMA, and it's been 11 days. Still no resolution. The wifi didn't work. Upload speed is only 0.2Mbps, while my pad and my roommate's laptop are doing 300Mbps duplex. This wifi 6 card suppose to pump 9Gbps at lab condition. On a real campus, I wouldn't expect that. But 0.2Mbps is just a joke.

      Dear Chiya,

We do understand your concern regarding the unit not waking up from sleep mode.

If the laptop has been in sleep mode for a long time, the power button needs to be pressed and held down until the unit wakes up successfully. Or, if a recent WINDOWS Update was just installed, the laptop will go into a black screen temporarily while updates are being applied in the System Registry. Another solution is try to shut down the unit completely by pressing and holding the power button until it power off. Wait for at least 10 seconds then press the power button to power on. Wait until the laptop boot up normally into the Home screen.

Laptop was the best until the 3rd year mark where it began to overheat more than usual. The screen would stay off sometimes and had to turn it completely off and then back on to be able to see the screen again. Unfortunately left it fot repair at the store and scren came back broken. The first 2 years, the laptop worked great and I played some hefty video games on it while also being able to get schoolwork done on it. Definitely not bad going with this one. Games that require a lot will drain battery life quickly, if it's just schoolwork, it has some life when new but could be better. Would have loved to buy the updated one if it had not been discontinued.

The best laptop I've ever owned!

This is my ~10th laptop and the 1.) speed and 2.) screen gorgeousness have now got me saying that this is the best laptop -- by FAR -- that I've ever owned (and I've had some nice machines). Could never imagine myself buying a gaming laptop before this (I'm not a gamer) but have now discovered this is EXACTLY the market segment I'm in, namely "ultra portable gaming laptop". BACKGROUND: I'm an average PC user...lots of photos, a bunch of videos, some GoPro videos, 12,000+ songs, and one game (MS Flight Simulator). I don't heavily do just one thing with my laptops. Don't do a lot of GUI stuff, or video editing. Usually have 60+ tabs open on Chrome and another 30 on Edge. I've always hated waiting for pages to open so I'm always closing windows, tabs, etc. when things bog down. SPEED: the CPU and GPU combo = pages and programs open blazingly fast....I'm never waiting for this machine in 1 month of ownership. I now have a gazillion tabs and apps open and it's a frikkin' JOY to let my ADHD run wild and ROG Zephyrus keeps up! SCREEN: absolutely gorgeous! LOVE the 16" size, the resolution, brightness, and the refresh rate. BEST screen ever. Period. GAMING: as I mentioned, I just use MS Flight Simulator, so I have no other things to compare it with but, lemme tell ya: when I sit close to my large screen TV that I connected to ROG Zephyrus via HDMI, the sensation of flying is darn near palpable! FANTASTIC screen and zero glitches or hangups (or whatever the technical terms are)...the GPU is just fine with me! CONS: 1. fans are loud...but ONLY when Flight Sim-ing (I wear noise-canceing ear buds anyway so no biggie at all) and they rarely come on otherwise. Takeaway: fans aren't an issue; 2. I wish it had a bit more battery life but I'm usually plugged in so not a big deal for me. OTHER PROS: 1. TONS of ASUS settings to reduce eye strain/customize display; 2. lots of ways to increase battery life that actually have little effect on performance; 3. The MyASUS app has a cool feature of maxing-out battery charge level to 80% or 60%, extending long-term battery life....I'm a 60% guy, and use 100% for travel. LASTLY: I just added a 32gb SODIMM 3200 Crucial stick (40gb total RAM) and am adding a 1TB SSD hard drive (the 1TB it came with is almost full). Oh, and I put 400gb in the micro SD slot. All at 4.5 lbs.!!! Sa-WEETNESS!!!

I purchased this laptop as an open box item for about $1450 and it was in great physical condition. No scratches or even an signs of use. For that price, I say this laptop was a pretty good deal. Amazing screen! Colors are vibrant and everything looks good on it. Processor kills! I can use this laptop for work running multiple apps, chrome, and large datasets in Excel. The light gaming I do is great. I haven't had a laptop with a dedicated graphics card in a long time, so I've really missed being able to run games on high settings. I haven't had a chance to install Premiere on it yet, but I'm sure that will run pretty well on here. Keyboard is super comfortable, way better than the ASUS 13. There are a decent amount of ports, 2 USB A and 2 USB C and even a ethernet port! I like that you can still charge via the USB C port, in case you dont want to lug the power brick around (because it is kind of heavy). The laptop itself is not ultrabook weight, but for how much you are getting, the weight is a manageable size to carry around. I agree with the other reviews regarding the fan out. I wish it was not blowing all the hot air out to the screen. I worry about what that might do in the long run. Can't really play games on battery, the processor and the card take too much power, but that's kind of expected. Processor runs a little hotter than what I'm used too, but it seems to be within normal range for this processor according to online sources.

Pros: Lightweight (though heavier than advertised) Powerful Excellent display Great keyboard and track pad Lots of ports Cons: ASUS build quality and My Asus software Fan tends to kick in sooner than other gaming laptops I've tried Ports are all bunched up on one side and situated too far forward its messy I was in need of a Windows laptop and wanted something that was powerful, lightweight, and had an excellent display. After doing some research online this seemed to fit the bill. The first unit I picked up I returned as it creaked a lot while handling the screen and around the track pad. The My Asus software also seemed to hang a few times while it was doing its updates. The second one seemed to have finish issues, the vents in back seemed bent, and a little bit of creaking with the screen but it wasn't that bad. I'm comparing it to my Macbook and a Razer laptop so I am probably being too picky in regards to build quality. Its also a little bit heavier than the 4.2lbs they advertised as both units I had were at 4.6lbs Laptop performance itself was great. Could run multiple programs and browser tabs without hiccup. Gaming was pretty solid. Fan does spin up a bit sooner compared to other laptops - even just sitting there so I thought that was weird. Played around in Armoury Crate but I didn't really figure out a good setting but I am sure you can tune it to the way you want. Its not an annoying sound though and I didn't think it was too loud it just starts spinning when you don't think it should. Laptop does get a bit warm when running games etc., but I would say its normal for a gaming laptop. The display is wow! Its vibrant, sharp, really bright, and the aspect ratio is great for productivity type tasks and web use. I think for what you get in this laptop its a good deal. I've also tried the G15 and while I like how the Ryzen version worked for games I think the display on this one is better and the ability to use Thunderbolt would place the ROG 16 above the G15 if you are looking for a laptop that you are going to use for more than just games. It was a hard decision as I really liked the whole package but ultimately returned it though as I couldn't get past the overall build compared to other laptops I have been trying.

So far I'm really enjoying this laptop. Granted, it's been 4 years since I had my last laptop, but this way outshines it even thinking back to my old laptop's original performance. This laptop is fast and smooth for almost everything. I originally purchased a g15 and had some issues of it not performing to a good benchmark (and also some wifi problems). I've had absolutely no problems with the m16 in the three days I've been using it. It's connectivity is great, its file transfer speed it wildly fast, so far its been a beast for productivity (it doesn't even break a sweat in my tests with photoshop and premiere), and of course it is crystal clear, absolutely smooth gaming. This is the third gaming laptop I've tried as a replacement for my old one, and there are some key features that have made me want to stick with this one. The build is amazing! It has a webcam (really g15?!), a great screen, amazing speakers, off the chart thermal control, and feels great to carry and type on. By far my biggest negative is the fans. They ramp up at WAY lower temperatures than I think they need to. When I tried the Razer Blade 15 (which by the way also really wants to keep the temps down), those fans still let the CPU and GPU reach higher temperatures than my m16 (so far at least). The other downside with the fans is often they'll click on at a decently high speed, and then go very quiet for a while, and then click back on for a hot sec again. I think the computer has thresholds where it starts to quickly ramp up fan speed, but the fans are so powerful they then quickly cool the computer down, and so they shut off again. This is pretty wild to me. In all my testing I've yet to see my CPU go above something I'd consider too hot, but the fan speeds can kick up and become loud. Anyways its a great computer, but I wish it handled its thermals with a different strategy.

I was looking for the Asus Zephyrus G15 with RTX 3060 but since it's been out of stock for a long while I decided to go with the M16 because of the special $200 discount offered by BestBuy. Let me start off by saying that this laptop feels really premium! The screen is one of the best IPS screen that one can get today on a laptop. I enjoyed watching videos & doing productivity on the large 16" screen. The 165hz screen refresh rate make the overall experience very smooth even for normal tasks. The Keyboard & Track pad are also one of the best! It took a while getting used to the new layout (since I come from ThinkPad lineup), but once I got used to the layout it was a really a joy using it. Not to mention the smooth silky touch finish that the entire deck has to offer. Sweet! The speaker sound is quiet good for a laptop. Front facing speakers make a lot of difference. I am not an avid gamer but I tried running Forza Horizon 4 & Apex Legends on the machine & it ran butter smooth. I was able to get around 100fps in Forza on all high settings & native resolution. I am not worried about the fingerprints that shows on the device very easily, it needs regular cleaning. The Asus software experience is also very good & stable. Did not see any issues with this. Talking about the negatives: The laptop gets warm when running normal load on the top area & gets really hot when running games (with charger connected of course)! The fan noise seems loud when on heavy load. Finally the battery life is very average. Even though the device has 90watts battery, I was only able to get around 5hr 30mins of max battery life with silent mode, battery saver selected & iGPU turned on doing productivity tasks that include web browsing, youtube videos & coding. That for me is really short compared to Ryzen based solutions. I was expecting more. Overall a very nice device, little pricey at full price, but battery life needs to improve. INTEL come on!!!!

Overall I liked this laptop. I liked the vivid display and the speed, and I got good performance on Elden Ring. I also really loved the style of the laptop and the feel of the keys. Unfortunately within 2 weeks the screen has started flickering at times, and I will have to return the item, hence my lower rating. Other down sides are the relatively low battery life and that the fan is pretty noisy when it gets going, but I think that goes with the territory of gaming laptops.

I bought this and the G15, and used them both side by side then decided which to keep, and which to return. In the end, I returned the G15, and kept the M16, and I'll explain why. Note that these 2 models cost the same at full price ($1850), but the G15 was $50 more during the Black Friday sale. Here are the main differences between the 2 models: - Material: I believe both are built with the same material (magnesium-aluminum alloy). However, the inside of the M16, where the keyboard deck is, has a rubberized feel on it (it feels similar to the Dell XPS line's carbon fiber inside). The G15 inside feels a bit like metal/hard plastic. - Screen: M16 has a brighter screen (500 nits vs 300 nits on the G15), so it is great for working outside or by a window if there's a lot of light shining onto the screen. M16 also has 16:10 aspect ratio (vs 16:9 on the G15) so you get more vertical space. It's good for productivity as you can see more line of text, but you'll see 2 black lines at the top and bottom if you're watching contents as those are mostly in 16:9 aspect ratio. ***A concern here that some people have is that under load, the hot air from the vent in the back is blown onto the screen. And because the M16 doesn't have a chin, the screen could get damaged over long term used. I personally haven't had any issue and think that it should be fine as the screen only gets a bit warm and not too hot. - Webcam: M16 has a 720p webcam, but the G15 doesn't have one. The quality isn't great, but it's there and it works if you need it. - Noise: Both run pretty silent in silent mode. But the fans from M16 usually kicks in faster and gets louder. The G15 runs quieter under load. - Battery life: The G15 has longer battery life (9 hours vs 5-7 hours on the M16 on light use). This is due to the Ryzen chip being more efficient than the Intel chip. Under load, the difference is minimal, and you'd probably want to plug in the laptop to draw out the full power anyway. - Ports: Ports are pretty much the same on both. The only difference is one of the USB-C ports on the M16 is thunderbolt 4. - CPU and GPU: The G15 has the Ryzen 9 5900HS chip while the M16 has the Intel Core i9-11900H. The Intel chip will outperform the Ryzen chip in most tasks, but you probably won't notice it unless you need to use the chip to its full potential. The Ryzen chip runs more efficiently, hence quieter and longer battery life. You can undervolt the M16, but that's not an option on the G15. M16 has an RTX 3060 while G15 has an RTX 3070. In games, the 3070 will give you better FPS, but not by much. Only when you turn on ray tracing, then the 3070 will perform much better. - Quality Control: The M16 definitely wins here. I've heard that the quality control on the M16 is much better than the G15. I actually had to reorder the M16 a 2nd time, due to the first one having a dead pixel. But that's not really the manufacture's fault. My 2nd unit hasn't had any problems so far. The G15, on the other hand, has a loose trackpad (it has some pre-travel and you can hear a quiet click, before it actually actuates and click). The screen is also slight warped. When you close the g15, you can see there's a small gap in the middle on all 3 sides (these are pretty common issues that other people on reddit had too) Overall, I picked the M16 because I much prefer this brighter and bigger screen for my work, and I just can't stand not having a webcam. I know you can use your phone or use an external webcam with much better quality, but it's just inconvenient having to set it up. I can sacrifice some gaming power and battery life for the screen. I'm going to try and tweak the settings and may undervolt it to help squeezing out some extra power, but also help extend battery life. And of course, The M16 was $50 cheaper when I bought both and the Quality Control on the G15 is just not as good. I would totally recommend the G15 though, if you can get 1 without any issues. Especially if you're a college student that needs long battery life, and want the model with better bang for your buck, and don't mind not having a webcam.

I purchased this machine after deciding a 3050 Ti TUF model I had previously bought wasn't going to be enough power. After deciding to screw the budget, I did some research and talked to my more hardware inclined friends about what to go for. I ultimately decided a 3060, as the difference in power between a mobile 3060, 3070, and 3080, is relatively small for 1080p gaming (which is what I do with my external monitor, connected to a USB-C docking station). I went with this model because it was the only 3060 in stock at the time. Overall, I really like this computer. It's very similar to my TUF but a lot more premium feeling (which makes sense). The screen is pretty incredible, but there is no HDR. The keyboard feels nice, there's a plethora of ports (including 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports with USB-PD). I also appreciate that its design is very subtle. There's no glowing logos, no obnoxious branding, and the only RGB is on the keyboard. I'd feel comfortable taking this computer into a meeting if I ever had to. With Apex Legends, I'm able to get 100-120fps with a mix of high and medium settings. That's partly just because Apex Legends isn't a very well optimized game. With lower settings you hit 144+ easily. Overwatch on max settings consistently goes above 144. Cyberpunk on Ultra without raytracing consistently goes above 60fps. With raytracing and DLSS enabled on ultra performance, I'm able to pull *mostly* 60fps with occasional drops to as low as 30fps in the most intense scenes. Fortnite gets around 100fps on everything Epic, and 144+ with DLSS on quality. With raytracing it gets around 120 with DLSS on performance. This is with no over/underclocking, connected to AC, plugged into an external monitor via USB-C, running at 1080p. Results will vary. The only major downside to this machine is that the fans get loud. I'm talking VTOL Jet taking off loud. Elon Musk Space rocket to Mars loud. Your neighbor in college having too good of a time loud. My headphones are good enough to block out the sound when I play, so it doesn't bother me, but the system can get above 50dB when fans are at max speed. Overall, get this computer, but get it when its on sale.

This laptop checks all the boxes. It looks great, great I/O, great performance, great screen with amazing color production and response time, etc. The temps at heavy gaming load never surpass 75c, which is excellent. I honestly have no issues with this laptop besides the battery life (even for just watching movies) I only get around 3 hours. Another thing to note, while the keyboard stays at a satisfactory temp, the top part (near where the mic mute buttons are etc) gets VERY TOASTY - up to 137F and is quite hot to the touch. This wont really effect anything but its something to note. All in all I really like this laptop. But the price is quite steep for only a 3060.

fast efficient and well lit keyboard and screen, second area for another internal SSD, decent gaming laptop for the money. only complaint would be battery life, and fan noise which with this thin of a laptop was definitely expected. so far zero reasons not to buy this laptop when on sale.

Bought a few weeks ago and still installing and setting up some software. Still using Windows 10 but will upgrade to 11 later. I use the computer primarily for business and general applications but do have a few games installed. The overall quality of the computer seems good. It is a fast machine with crisp, smooth graphics, excellent color rendition and a very bright display. Having a 1TB HD was a must so the 1TB SSD is great. The microSD card reader is a nice feature. I like being able to set the operating mode on the fly. Although I saw some complaints about fan noise when operating in performance modes, I don't notice it in a typical office environment. The keypad and power supply do get pretty warm to touch. Internal speaker volume is a little low on some applications but fine with headphones or external speakers. The built-in camera and microphone is a must for Internet meetings. So far, no problems and I am pleased with the purchase.
