Horrible transaction.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased online to pick up at the store. I purchased this as an open-box, excellent certified. Upon receipt, I checked the product and there were very obvious scratches all over the cover, the keyboard had food or something smeared on the keys, and also on the back. Screen was full of dust and fingerprints like someone just got finished eating Cheetos and watching... Who knows what. I ended up returning, I asked if this may have been mislabeled seeing that the description for this laptop which was classified and priced at a category called open box excellent certified, and specifically says "Products in this condition look brand new - with no physical flaws, scratches or scuffs. I was told by someone else that walked up that every open box is used and will have scratches, which is not the truth, at all. This is why Best Buy has separate categories that lost the level of quality at which they're priced. They had nothing comparable in the store, within 1 hour I was able to purchase a newer model of this same brand. I have purchased many things from here and this was a horrible experience, from the misleading description, to the manager or whoever she was that wouldn't even think about looking into pricing this as a used item, since it was definitely used, not just an open box item.

Asus Vivobook 17.3 Laptop
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased my 17in Asus Vivobook a couple of weeks ago last minute for work. I was traveling for work but I needed a wide screen. This laptop is perfect for that. I love that it is lightweight so easy to fit in my bookbag as a carryon. I also like having a 10-key pad. My only issue with this laptop is that the keyboard does not have backlight so it is hard to see your keys in dark or low lighting. The battery life is not as long as I would like so you do need to carry your charger but at least that is a reasonable size. Overall it's a great purchase and it's reasonably priced.

A fine laptop, but one big problem
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fast and efficient, suits the desired level of use. However, there are three issues with it that I personally have encountered. First of all, the black print on silver keys makes it difficult to see the letters when it's dark. Second, the laptop charges fast, but also drains quickly. Lastly, there needs to be an indicator light when the nums lock is on, which is my biggest gripe with the product and is a baffling design flaw. Despite these issues however, this laptop has been great and I am quite satisfied. Would be rated higher, but the nonexistence of a nums lock light is a big problem that is hard to overlook.

Good laptop
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Its a good laptop my wife likes it. The keyboard is hard to see. The designers went with beauty instead of functionality. Get a silicone keyboard cover for 15.00. The hard drive is a bit slower compared to a ssd drive, but not a game changer for the average adult. For about 50.00 you could switch is ssd drive. All in all the other reviews are pretty spot on. This is good laptop for someone that wants a big screen, browse the internet, read emails, print, do QuickBooks. Anyone who has a etsy shop or online store. It’s prefect for that.

Thanks for the reviews they made me buy it.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to agree with the masses. The hard drive is a done deal for any windows OS past windows 7. I bought this with the plan to immediate replace the HD with an M.2 SSD which really brought this laptop to life. Yes it is no gaming PC but it's fine for my intermediate usage. The Core i5 and 12 gb ram really help push this thing. My only complaint is the contrast between the keys and the printed symbols on the keys. In certain light and/or reflections it can be difficult to read. For this and the fact that it did not come with an SSD I took away one star. I will note that I tried it with a SATA 2.5" ssd and it also performed well. I will recommend this but ONLY if you plan on upgrading the HD to an SSD. I am luck that I can do it myself, so all it cost me is $50 for a non-gaming 1TB ssd.

Very Good Laptop at an Affordable Sale Price.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the Sale-Price of $399 apiece, Nice Laptop with large 17" Screen & 10th Gen Intel-i5 Quad-Core Processor, with 12 GB of Memory for decent performance.. In fact, I bought 2 of these Laptops, one for my wife and one for myself.. Couple of minor "downside" issues.. First, the Hard Drive is a Mechanical 1-TB HDD, spinning at 5400 RPM's, Quite Slow.. And the "Light Grey" Alpha-Numeric Characters embossed on the Silver Grey Keyboard are difficult to see.. However, with the Sale-Price being so low, I ordered two "1-TB NVMe SSD's" for the Laptops for only $90 apiece.. Cloned the HDD's over to SSD's which Improved the performance Immensely.. Overall, quite impressed with this Laptop (after adding SSD) and would highly recommend, especially when they are on Sale!!

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Computer is great except it has a horrible keyboard where you cannot see the letters or symbols on the keys without special light with the silver keys with slightly darker symbol colors and are really hard to read. Very disappointing
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1. Battery, even at power setting doesn't last more than 2 hours. 2. Sound is very low 3. Extremely slow to boot up. 4. Keyboard lettering is close in color to the keys, making them hard to identify. I could have survived with all the above, (1)kept it plugged in,(2) didn't purchase it to watch movies/listen to music/(3) patience is a virtue/(4) can touch type What really tipped it over into "worst laptop/pc purchase ever" is, Less than 4 months after purchase, keyboard became unresponsive. Updated Driver. Uninstalled/Reinstalled Driver, Reset to factory setting...still no keyboard function. I have spent more time attempting to solve the issues, than I have using the laptop (No exaggeration!). The only positive note is the screen is bright and large

AMD-based/Nice student laptop - great Streaming
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good value for the price; however, the laptop is slow. the display has slightly too much white light and the keyboard is difficult to read due to the lack of color contrast between the key color and symbol color - or lack thereof. The stock 1 TB hard drive is slower than expected, but probably fine for most users. The RAM is good in regard to it being 12 GB but you'll need all of that just to run windows and a few basic apps. The network card seems to be normal in its performance without any obvious problems but I did not spend enough time on this area to make a true evaluation. I cleaned up Windows by removing some of the preinstalled apps and changing some settings that are more of a resource hog rather than a true feature enhancement - fade in, fade out, etc., in settings located in the control panel. I also updated to the latest Windows 10 packs that I thought were ok - you should know if you're not into tinkering, that not all updates from the mothership are actually beneficial - Google that for more insight. I installed a new solid state drive to speed things up. Now the laptop performs. I also shopped RAM and searched for the best "timed" RAM for this motherboard and settled on Corsair that was the same spec as the replaced mod. Even though the spec didn't change, and even though the onboard memory wasn't changed, there is a noticeable improvement in performance measured with benchmarking software. Each PC/Laptop will have different results as techies will know even when the components are the same brand, model and version. So a side by side comparison will not be a good way to choose upgrades if your looking for optimal performance improvements. Be sure to research you individual components using the proper utilities (BIOS updates) to inspect your motherboard's settings and how is actually operating rather than what it is touted to be. Lastly, when it comes down to choosing Intel or AMD, do some research. I chose AMD because of the overhead factor. Each brand has its superpowers, but essentially I offer the following analogy: you can drop an apple from head height and it falls to the ground or you can drop the same apple from the same height with obstacles, or overhead, in its way. Overhead is what it takes to run the chip and AMD has less overhead. AND its less expensive.

Keyboard color ruins an otherwise great machine
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I take the word "laptop" literally. I use it on my lap. I'm typically in a recliner, and it's in between or on top of my thighs. This computer took a little getting used to. For some reason, the front corners of the base are sharp and it was the first thing that annoyed me about it. I had to adjust my position on the recliner to compensate. The charger has a right angle plug and that helps a lot. I find the hardware to work well together and be a good value. A 256 SSD would have been more attractive to me than the 1TB HDD. I was a little leery about going back to a mechanical hard drive, but I've adapted. I only boot it once a day while I'm having my coffee. I'm as brain dead as the computer is for those first 5 minutes so it works out fine. But once Windows & Co. has fully loaded in the background, it's sufficiently fast. Most of what I do is on the internet and I'm pretty happy with page loading times. The rest of the day I just sleep it when I'm not using it, and it springs back to life almost instantly. I love the action of the keyboard. It's like silk. However, the keyboard is very difficult to read. It's not backlit and there is not enough contrast between the silver color of the keys and the grey color of the letters, numbers, and symbols. Additionally the "shift" activated symbols are small and even harder to read. So it has been a nightmare learning this keyboard. I'm constantly using the display like a flashlight to find and re-find where some of the less commonly used ones are. Home, end, page up & down are in such a weird spot that I will never use them. I know silver is the "trending" color right now, but without backlighting, these keys suck if used in anything less than laboratory conditions. Mouse pad has been flawless. The resolution of the screen is good but not great. I only notice it if I have my other laptop next to it. The brightness, color, contrast are all very pleasing. I never use it outdoors. I/O is more than adequate. No complaints there. I'm probably not going to mod this ride until the warranty runs out. There are no removeable panels on the bottom. The whole bottom must be removed to access the mobo. I'm dying of curiosity to see if there is an M.2 slot and whether the memory can be upgraded. Ideally I want to add a small SSD and just use the HDD for storage and kick the RAM up to 16GB. It seems like retailers and manufacturers want to make the necessary info impossible to get. I assume it's because stupid people don't understand the difference between the amount of RAM a machine has and the maximum it can handle. So the marketing morons and other corporate stooges suppress that info to prevent confusion amongst the easily confused. Frankly I'm tired of living in a world where we have to set the bar as low as possible for these mental midgets.

Very good except keyboard colors
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A very good laptop once you pop in a SSD and make it the main drive. Only bad thing is the keyboard colors, silver and gray can be hard to read at times. Person who thought of this should be fired and their boss for not knowing better. slow HDD drive, washed out screen, heavy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.slow, heavy, washed-out screen. I should have known better than to consider an HDD drive over a solid state. All the other specs looked good and I was hoping the 12GB of memory would help, only helps having multiple apps loaded, but the slow hard drive takes forever to load them up into memory. Also the screen is faded like worse than laptops made 15 years ago with LCD screens. I recommend anything over this laptop. Sound quality was bad too.

Asus Vivibook: three weeks later.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve only had this for three weeks. What drew me to this amazing buy was: the specs. I couldn’t resist. 12GB, i5, 1TB for under $500. I bought two. The keyboard is not backlit so in less than optimal lighting, you need an alternate light source. The keys are also flimsy. How do I know this? An 8 month old infant was able to pop one off. I pushed it back in and I’ve had no problems with it- yet. The battery life is also rather questionable. On a full charge with the lowest lighting, I can’t say I’ve gotten a good hour. Finally, and the most heartbreaking, the computer lags. I’m not even doing any heavy work. I just have maybe four tabs open, a word document, and the file explorer. At this point I’m only holding on because I don’t believe I’ll find anything better. I can overlook the fact that it’s a 17 inch laptop, or that the keyboard isn’t backlit, but what can I do with a barely three week old laptop that lags? Grin and bear it? Or admit defeat and start over. It’s like a bad relationship that I’m trying desperately to revive. I can’t leave because I’ll have to admit it’s bad. I was hoping for a powerful machine, but I realize now that I may have been deceived.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, so good. This is much faster than my previous Asus. Easy to use tho wish the "num lk" could be set to stay on ala "caps lock". Love this product. Only critique is the gray keyboard - (which I like) but if using the laptop under a lot of light, it is difficult to read the keyboard. Recommend!!!
