Being able to watch videos and see pictures on a big screen TV instead of the laptop is really nice. Especially, for the older folks (grandparents).

For this purpose the cable is effective, although pricey. The picture quality is mediocre at best; however, it is unclear which exact device in the chain (laptop, cable, receiver, TV) is causing the signal degradation.
