Bought this printer on sale for $30 off, would not have regretted buying it at full price. It was super easy to get it set up on my WiFi network and it's so nice to have a laser printer instead of ink jet. Yes, it's only black & white, but if you want quality, color printing you should be using a photo printer or going to Kinko's.

This met my needs because the feature of not having ink to dry out between uses saves me money. Nothing beats laser printing on documents for clarity. Also, it prints faster than I expected. My store experience was good one too - I was treated very well in front of some friends who were shopping with me. I also like that it doesn't take up so much space. It has more features than I have figured out how to use. Yes, there is a small learning curve but I got results right away when first set up when my other printer died. The Brother site does have some tutorials and help.

fine basic unit; many cut corners

In terms of basic functionality this unit is fine. It prints, it scans, it copies, it connects without issue to WiFi and wired ethernet. It has various handy connectivity protocols that I frankly don't need. Print speed is reasonably fast. However, many corners were cut; here are the ones that have bugged me the most:
* scanner does not scan the full scanner-glass area. Turns out it doesn't scan the bordering ~4mm on all edges. No big deal unless you want to scan a small item, or anything other than a printed document (which usually doesn't have any content in those borders anyway). Scanning a photo or business card, or passport though? Watch out! You can't place it along any edge of the glass (as you normally would to keep it straight), since you'll lose part of it in the scan.
* printing is light when printing double-sided. strikethrough marks, for example, that should be prominent are barely visible. the printing is usable for drafts and everyday use, but not great if you need it for anything more formal.
* printing is slow when double-sided. I haven't timed it, but the quoted print speed of >30 pages per minute is a joke compared to the reality when printing double-sided.
* general construction is shoddy. Feels like it'll break any second, e.g. when adding paper to the paper tray. and the touch screen uses the old resistive plastic technology, unlike the glass capacitive types that are much more responsive (like phones, and recent Epson printers)
Bottom line, I wish I had paid more for a higher-quality printer from another company, or just gone with inkjet despite the ink-cost issues they have.

This a great printer. I did a lot of research and the toner price for this brand is the cheapest of all brands. I have had a Brother printer in the past and it has lasted without any problems. Also, note that this printer has the highest printing resolution from many more expensive printers on the market. I hope this helps!

Wireless Wifi Wonderful. Brother laser printer is fast and economical due to the low cost of toner cartridge per number of pages printed. There is also a counter.

I definitely want to make it clear that I was tired of buying ink and had decided color ink jets were not for me. And duplex scanning was not always necessary.
This product was a very good alternative to buying 60 dollars of ink every four months after they dried up. I don’t do a whole lot of printing but this was easy to hook up to the network and start working.

This is my first printer that uses toner. I use a lot of ink and was buying cartridges every week. It scans and copies wonderful. Other comments were right when they said that there are light wavy lines on the text, so I would not use it for anything professional, but it is great for printing papers for school.

I should have bought a laser printer long ago! Incredibly quick and easy set up, crisp, sharp print, and quick printing, too! I honestly cannot express how much I love this printer! The price was better than any other laser printer and in the long run, it is a better buy than an inkjet. Some people may not like that it is only B&W but it doesn't take away one bit from this printer.

Good value for a multi-function printer

I've been very pleased with this Brother multi-function printer. It was very easy to set up. There is one strange thing worth mentioning. After you turn on this printer, it seems to take 2-5 minutes to connect to the wifi network. So since I usually leave the printer turned off until I need it, I have to wait several minutes to receive my output.

We had a Brother printer before that was/is still excellent but it did not have wifi capability and we could not get our iOads and lPhones to work with it. This had the capability plus a scanner so the price was fight and we got it. Wehave not been disappointed and it looks if when we need to upgrade Brother will ve the first range we look at!
