A PS3 Must Buy!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
COD4 is the best game for the PS3 yet, and likely will be for some time to come, especially if you're a fan of the first-person-shooter genre. The diversity of this title is what makes it worth the buy (most PS3 games have been, in my opinion, rent only titles). The single player has a cinimatic story that keeps one engaged to the point of addiction. This is probably why COD4 has been dubbed too short by some reviewers. I recommend start playing through the campiegn at the second or third level of difficulty if you have some experience with shooters so that the game lasts longer. Though I haven't yet, I may play the single player game again just to experience some of the game play not featured in online play (gatling guns, air attacks, etc.).
Speaking of online, if the single player feels too short and doesn't completely suck you in, the addictive nature of the online competition certainly will (highspeed internet required!). First, let me say that I was addicted to Counter Strike while attending college and haven't found a similar experience since. Let me just say that COD4 is everything CS was and more. COD4 online has many different game types to choose from (with some unlocking as you gain experience points) that keep even the most ADHD players (such as myself) online for hours. And if that wasn't enough, Infinity Ward has added many levels of rank and other goodies to achieve/acquire as you gain experience points through killing other opponents and completing objectives.
You might have read that the leveling-up proccess in online play gives the begining COD4 Online players a tough disadvantage at the start. This is quite true, however, if your competitive spirit doesn't run out while learning the maps and innitial weaponry. you will soon be addicted and will find yourself completing outrageous challanges; falling down missile silos to your death, killing enemies while jumping, and even sneaking up and knifing your opponents while their not looking; all of which you'll endevor to grab experience points to gain that all important edge on your online cohorts.
And when you think you've reached the end, COD4 challanges you to start all over again in Prestige mode. This mode brings you back to square one, giving you the chance to experience it all again as the noob you were, without all the weapons and goodies that made you the online killing machine you thought you were. In this way COD4 challanges you to gain new perspective relying on nothing more than your tacticle know-how and quick reflexes gained while leveling-up the first time through. With 10 levels of Prestige to achieve, you'll have days of gameplay ahead of you. The only question is, do you have the time?

The best shooter I've played on ps3

Let me start by saying this game is awesome. By far, since I have had my ps3 this is the best game I have played. I love the realistic weapons effects and performance. For instance, the Javelin shoulder fire missile that is used to take out tanks on some levels. When fired the missile goes up and comes down on top of the target just as the real Javelin used by American armed forces would. Also the claymores have the ability to be activated by motion sensore or a remote you have. There is also a mini gun that doesn't shoot until the battery revs up the rotation of the barrels. The red dot optics are very nice because they provide fast high accuracy. There are a lot of weapons that you can use but you do not have the ability to select which weapon you want to use before each mission. That is one knock I have for this game. The ability for bullets to go through walls and other things that would ordinarly stop a real bullet is captured also. When clearing a building it is almost always good measure to put a couple of shots through the walls to make sure any enemy in the rooms don't get the drop on you. In a nutshell there was a lot of attention allocated to detail for the weapons used in the game. I love that.
The graphics are also very good. The graphics are smooth and without glitches. There is also a mission where you are a sniper in a guildy (I think I spelled that righ) suit and the graphics are exceptional. The graphics are still cartoon like but the added power of the ps3 high def capabilities make all movement fluent.
The missions provide any level of difficulty you are looking for. This is either through selecting the difficulty before starting a campaign or just through natural progression from mission to mission the game just gets more difficult. There are parts where stealth is required and parts where you are fighting as hard as you can for survival. Some levels have missions where you will need air support to keep the droves of enemy personel from overrunning your position. Air support comes by means of an attach helicopter or fighter plane. Their effects are realistic also as the helicopter can't sit there and attack a position all day and there is a limit to the number of passes the fighter plane can make. The helicopter has to go back for fuel and ammo and the fighter plane can only drop so much ordinance before it has to leave.
At the end of the day I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys playing shooters. This is must in your collection of games.

Solid Gameplay and Replay Value

The best shooter for the PS3 since Resistance, CoD 4 even gives Halo 3 a run for its money with its smooth hi-def graphics and startling sound blasting from the PS3. Much better than the CoD3 release (now that infinity ward, the team that worked on CoD2 is back!). This game offers a truly cinematic and intense single player campaign that may be over in a flash, but leaves a long lasting impression and pushes you to try hardened or veteran mode. After you beat the single player in 6-8 hours, you'll be playing the online multiplayer non stop! Completely accessible and with a class system that allows you customize your weapons and play style while keeping the playing field pretty even, the action never gets frustrating. Unlike other online modes such as Resistance, it's less likely that the sessions will be unfairly dominated by a ridiculously unfair matchup. This is the first game that has actually enticed me to play online, and I can't stop. Add-ons to weapons, earning new abilities, calling in air support on your enemies, the list of "did you see that" moments online are endless. This title should not be overlooked for either the 360 or PS3, and finally Sony fanboys can rejoice that a third party port actually plays and looks just as good if not better on the PS3.

Really Good First Person Shooter

Let me start off saying this has a great online play. If you buy this game for your Playstation 3 you better have internet.
Story:
The story line could either be hard or easy for you, this also depends on the difficulty you have chosen. The only bad thing about this story line is that it is quite short. Have fun playing this awesome storyline.
Online:
I will start off with a "wow". That is basically the only thing to describe this awesome heart pounding online where you face off, gain levels, earn perks, guns, and much more. There are a vast variety of levels that you can play online. These are all fun and just great. You can also send bombers with five kills in a row or a helicopter with seven kills in a row. All your kills count as experience towards your max level, 55.
Graphics:
There are some of the best graphics I have ever seen in my entire life. This actually make it seem like you are in the game playing in a war with real looking grass, guns, just everything!
Sounds:
The sounds are amazingly accurate. It sounds exactly like a grenade being thrown and being bounced right next to you. The gunfire sounds so real too. Just everything about the sounds are amazing.
Overall I would pick up this game at any local Bestbuy. It is great and fun.

This is a great buy for anyone that likes first-person shooters. The graphics are amazing. The campaign is one of the best I have played. Although it is too short. I do like the arcade option for the campaign. Gives me and my friends something other than just killing eachother. Since a friend and I are the only ones with a PS3. The multiplayer, offline, leaves more to be desired. The pre-made classes are ok. Would prefer to be able to make your own weapon selection with attachments, inventory and perks. The online play is by far the best part of this game. I could play online all day. Have done a few times. It has some great customization of the weapons and inventory. You got hard cover and soft cover. Make sure you learn the difference between each. Could mean the difference bewtween victory and defeat. The shot box, lack of better term, is very accurate. If you shoot someone in the neck they die, not run behind a wall and recover. Has a great selection of different multiplayer games. Although a mic is not needed, in some team games, like sabotage, it is good idea to have. Communication between teammates always helps a ton. New maps have been added. Needs more weapons now.

Most Immersive in the Market

"The best game I have possibly ever played. The story is well thought out and very immersive. This is not a run and shoot game, the AI are smart and will shoot back, AND they will hit you. You can customize your weapons depending on your ranking and unlocks when online. Though the customization is nice, it is really basic compared to the full customization capabilities offered in Army of Two and Rainbow 6 Las Vegas 2. The story is short, but thats just for the people who play on recruit/normal and just run and gun. When I start out a new game, I go all out. When playing on Veteran, the enemies can drop you in probably three shots if they can get them landed. If you actually want to experience the story as it is intended, play on the most difficult setting and challenge yourself. Nothing is much fun if it is too easy to beat."

Normally
I reserve my comments for after I have completed a game. But, yesterday
I rented this game, and I played until I finally had to force myself to
go to sleep. It's your typical first person shooter except much better.
You get to do all the things first person shooter games do like kill
bad guys, blow-up vehicles, and order air strikes. However you also get
to do Sniper missions where you take out high ranking officials and hide
in high grass while the enemy almost steps on you. You also get to ride
in an airplane and provide support for ground troops while they move
through a heavily fortified area. If you are the type of person who
loses sleep and ruins relationships because of your video game
addiction, do not get this game. You will not leave your TV for a
month. Whether you are a beginner, novice, Regular, advanced, or
extreme gamer, you won't regret buying this game. Go to this website to
view a video of the "ground-support mission". In this mission, you are
the gunner.

Best CoD game out so far!!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I love this game so much!!! Not only is the online play just outstanding, but it has so many new features. I was skepticle at first, prior to purchasing this game, as to whether or not I would like this game. I wasn't sure if the developers would be able to pull off a modern warfae game. I mean, all of the other CoD games (Call of Duty) had been about WW2. BUt hey pulled it off, and they pulled it off well. The online play is so much fun and highly addicting. I just love the new ability to shoot through walls!! There is however one thing that i didn't like about this game, the last stand feature. This feature enables players close enough to death to fall to the ground and look dead but still have time to get many shots off. This has killed me so many times!!! I hate it. But other than that feature, this game is the best war game on the shelves for 360 and PS3 (which is totally better). I would recommend this game to anybody who enjoys shooters. It is an amazing FPS, one of the best of all time.

One of the greatest shooters ever

This is one of the greatest first person shooters ever and by far the best game for ps3. The online play is pretty much the 100% of the reasoning for this. It has several maps, modes of play (free for all, Team match, search and destroy, etc...), weapon upgrades, in-game challenges, etc... Plus tons of other gamers are aways playing at all different times. It also works well with the playstation network and teaming up with your friends is a blast, especially if you have a headset for chatting. You are also ranked against everyone so you can see where you stand. The game is really smooth (no glitches) and the graphics and sound are amazing. NO problems with this game, but the single player mode is mode is really fun and really really short (like a day or two's worth). So if you are not planning on playing this game online then I strongly recommend not to buy it because it is definitely not worth it. However, if you are going to play online then this game is beyond a MUST HAVE!!!!

Best Online Shooter

As most games, it has it's single player and multi-player option. The single player campaign is challenging with more then one way to go about completing a mission, but the AI is still what it always has been, predictable after the first try (Even though I feel that will not change in video games anytime soon). But the game really takes off in the online multi-player (off-line multi play is also available). With plenty of different game types to choose from ranging from free-for-all, team deathmatch, and team tactical (3v3) it is hard not to find a game you love to play. The play is realistic and spawn camping is not possible due to the random spawn which is great. With new options becoming available to you as you go up through the ranks, it makes for a much more interesting way of getting better. I could go on for days about this game, but there's no need. An easy 5 star game with almost nothing to complain about (online lag is present :( ).

I have a con on here only cause I feel I should put at least something up. I have always stayed away from Call of Duty games because the world war II genre is overplayed and boring to me. Modern warfare is just that, modern. The one player campaign really is short. Even if you haven't played a first person shooter before you can beat it in about 7 hours but this isnt a game that you buy for the one player mode. The purpose of this game is to play multiplayer and the brief one player mode is PERFECT for conditioning you to play with the other players from across the world. Even without an HD television you will be blown away by the graphics of this game. They are very impressive in one player and multiplayer mode. This game does a superb job of taking advantage of what the playstation 3 has to offer. If you own a ps3, or are about to this game should be one of the VERY FIRST ones you buy. You will NOT REGRET IT.

I am Shootergamerguy, if you havent read my reviews I will start off telling you that I write these reviews for two reasons. One, you dont waste your dollars at this store. two, I have watched and played basically every shooter, action adventure, and racing game and with my experience I felt I should try this out. COD4 was the best game I have ever played. Shooting down hellicopters, blowing up stuff, and shooting your enemy will keep you busy. Please buy this game or else you will miss out on the most reallistic game known to man, I am not just saying this or neither is anyone else. The only drawback is it's easy campaighn. Seriously, the millitary should use this to trian on.
until next time,

Not just a game...an experience

To say that Call of Duty 4 is one of the best games this year is an extreme understatement. The campaign is top notch, graphically amazing, emotionally charged, and one of the most intense experiences ever had in a game. It seems short, but that's mostly because you won't want to stop playing it, with great firefights and even greater characters. The multiplayer is fun as always, and the inclusion of a "create-a-class" in the online multiplayer keeps things interesting. It is also by far the most realistic depiction of war currently available on the market, and that is really the only thing that can keep it from being whole-heartedly recommended. If you're in to sun shine and rainbows, and the good guys always coming out unscathed and taking down the bad guy, you'd better look elsewhere. If you're looking for a great shooter that will engage you mentally and emotionally, look no further.

OH YEA REMINDS ME OF THE ARMY DAYS !

I got this game for fathers day and I love it. It takes me back to the Army days and is the most realistic game I have ever played so far. The sounds or real and not fake and sound bad to the bone over the 7.1 surround sound and the graphics or still top notch and don't fade out or get goofy like some games do when you play them on a big screen like my 65 inch Toshiba. That impressed me because some games get goofy when you put them on a big tv but not this one. I only wish you could have at least 2 people at the same time play online like the old Medal Of Honor games when it was 2 player split screen online but maybe the next COD could be that way. I also wish you could fly or drive the object in the game when your in battle but oh well thats what Battle Field 2 is for. I would get this game if you like hard core shooting and killing this game has it all. Happy hunting online!

Single player mode is excellent. But the average gamer could probably go through it with not much time. Alltho, once you beat the game, and go to multi-player/online mode, WOW !
Online play is amazing for this game ! You're always playing against someone different, so the gameplay is always somewhat different.
Find a place to hide and use your sniper rifle, or just go crazy with an automatic assault rifle. Throw grenades and try for multi-kills.
When you are killed, you get to see in a play-back mode who shot you/ blew you up, and from where. If it was an air strike, you see the jets dropping the bombs overtop you. Blown up? you get to see the player throw the grenade, and watch it fly through the air til it hits you.
This game is without a doubt my best purchase thus far for the PS3, and I cant bring myself to play anthing else! IT'S A MUST BUY, IF YOU HAVENT BOUGHT IT YET!

I love Call of Duy 4. It is the most realistic game ever released. The graphics and sounds are really awesome. If you have a HD tv you will truly love Call of Duty 4. The campaign is also lots of fun. You can beat campaign in less than 5 hours, but it is the best campaign and the story is explained well so you always know what is going on. After you beat campaign, you will play online. Online is great. The maps are all nicely deatiled are lots of fun to play on. The customizing for multiplayer is fun too. You can choose your weapons class and you get perks when you level up. There are many great weapons like M16, M14, M4 Carbine, Desert Eagle, P90, Mini Uzi, Skorpion, M9, M21, AC-130 Gunship and much more. You can also use grenades, night vision, C4 and claymores. The possibilites are endless in this game and that is why it is one of the greatest ever.

This game is too good to pass up the next time you go shopping even though it came out 8 months ago! Its so good its even an international top-seller! Its a great gift for a friend or family member!

A near perfect game

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Call of duty 4: Modern Warfare, is an extremely well designed game, that would be a perfect addition to any gamers, who likes shooters, arsenal. First, I must say that the story mode, albeit a bit short, is extremely fun, and very well told; but when you beat the game (typically 6 hours) it is a little fun to find all the laptops and get all the cheats, but very little other replay value. When you get done with the campaign though, you are ready for the online play, which is very intense and extremely addictive, though a little hard for newbies. The fact that you can rank up all the way, and then start from the ground up again, is a great feature, so on the online mode, there are mode than 500 ranks you can achieve. Definitely a great game, and I would reccomend it to anyone who likes shooter video games.
So, I hope this review has been helpful.

BEST FPS I HAVE EVER PLAYED
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Let me say, first, that this is the best FPS I have ever played. The graphics are simply awesome. Down to the shadows moving perfectly with the players, varying levels of smoke, dust, etc. SOCOM is the game that pushed me to buy PS2, COD4:MW is the game for PS3.
I do wish that the single player mode was longer, some levels ended a bit short, and the storyline was not as full as one might expect. When you consider how much data must be devoted to the MP mode, it makes sense. Two discs next time? that would be awesome. Larger maps and vehicles (a la SOCOM) would round it out. Depending on how Slant Six handles the next release of SOCOM (if it's like PSP, the franchise is doomed, like UBI and Ghost Recon), this may be the next dynastic FPS for PS3. Lets hope for nothing more than small tweaks and expanded content. And a PSP version that also rocks.

This game is amazzinng!!! This game really turned me on to the COD! I'm not even a big video gamer, but its sick!! The graphics are really good too! I really like the campaign mode and multiplayer! The story mode was ok, but the online was great! I loved playing online, if you have fast internet.. I promise you if you try this game out you'll be hooked!!!!! The maps were okay. I don't know what else to say but that this game is the best!!!!!! I'm really looking forward to the COD: World At War released sometime November of this year. I just wonder how much better can this game get!! lol In conclusion I highly recommend anyone BUY THIS GAMMEE, if you like shooting games and playing online. If you have surround sound it's even better it feels like your in the actual game, if you dont its ok it's still BEST GAME OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
