My expectations for the Canary Flex was spot on. This camera looks and functions better than my Nest Drop Cam. I want to start off by saying the packaging and unboxing the unit give me the feeling that its worth the money. The resolution on the flex far exceeds my nest drop cam one. I am able to zoom in with the flex and have a fairly clear view of faces on the street. I am no camera or security guru but for a home owner that wants security cameras without dealing with wires running everywhere this is the one. Since taking ownership of the device and setting it up I have charged it once, and it has been 13 days and I am still at 3/4 battery life. The magnetic base is super useful for me since I can see myself changing the angles of the view pretty often. Overall the Canary Flex is a easy to use device and I look forward to seeing how well it gets use to my outdoor motion. Lets see how this holds up for the next few months!

I just installed my Canary Flex outside and I LOVE IT! I live out in the country and want to monitor my property for trespassers, escaped livestock, package delivery, and every other reason you’d have for wanting to know what’s going on while you’re away or asleep, like why my dog is barking at night and whether it’s worth getting up for! I have it mounted on a tree in my front yard with the secure mount accessory. No one will notice it there—but I will see everything! The design is very discreet.
The wireless option is awesome for my use (away from the house and electric outlets). The app alerts me when the (long-lasting) battery is getting low so I can bring in for a quick and easy charge and have it ready to go back out and do its thing in no time.
I’m super impressed with how much of an area can be seen by the camera. I love the included magnetic base (it's really strong) and the swivel capacity for both of the types of bases (I also bought the secure mount)—they give you options for where to put your device because you can angle the camera to see what you need to see. You can watch in live mode whenever you want or just check it when you get an activity alert. The app is awesome and easy to use--that's important to me!
As far as the monthly subscription, I looked it up on their website and even without canary membership you still get secure detection, video clips, 24 hours of video history, notifications, and everything that makes it a security device including the connection to emergency services.
I have no qualms about subscribing for the extra features. It’s only ten bucks a month! or less for full year—worth it because it stores 30 days of video history, incident support, longer warranty, and get this: two-way talk through the microphone and speaker! (I am so excited about that feature!)
Bottom line: the device and subscription are worth every penny. The quality and all of the features and controls are even more than I hoped for. I love that all of it is constantly accessible on my phone. Next I’m getting the indoor version because it can do all this plus air and temperature monitoring.

Pretty good picture quality, setup and firmware update is easy.
Sound recording is fairly decent. Solid wireless connections, doesn't drop. Of course this may depend on how far from your wireless router you put them. The magnets in the base are very strong, the box comes with mounting screws and the USB cable is pretty long, the website says 8ft. You will need to subscribe to Canary for two-way talk, 30 days of saved video. I wish the Flex came with the Canary stickers that the All-in-one does, every bit of deterrance helps.
The Canary app works well for me, use it to aim your cameras and edit the camera settings - sensitivity, mask out areas to ignore, check remaining battery. The app also has Home, Away and Night modes w/ geofencing, so when your phone leaves the area, it goes Away mode automatically. It also notifies you and lets you see the video clip that triggered the camera and a timeline of events. If you have more than 1 person in your household, they can DL the app and you can add them as a user.
Negatives:
-Battery life in a busy / high motion location can be poor. After having to get my ladder and take down my backyard Flex every other day to charge it for several hours & re-aim it, due to cold weather, motion of tree leaves, squirrels, etc, I ended up running it wired to a nearby outlet, thank you long cable! As a powered camera, it's great, no issues. You'd have to lower all the settings to get better life in a busy location. My Flex in a quiet spot by my front door has good battery life.
-Flex does not have auto-orientation of footage, if you mount it upside down / sideways, your footage will be too, and supposedly the video recognition algorithms won't work as well. So mount it rightside up only.
-Flex nightvision is not good, only 1 infrared LED illuminator, so close range only. But if you have a motion activated light nearby, it's okay. Night videos are black / white only.
Running the Flex wired with motion activated lights nearby is great, super solid performance. Wireless, no light source nearby, then YMMV.

I am very happy with my Flex. I keep one at the front door to alert me of visitors and to keep eye on package deliveries and one watching over my back deck. The battery life has only gotten better over time and is lasting about 3 months for me. The video quality is excellent. I also purchased their paid membership for longer video history and recording.

The Canary Flex is a good wireless option for a reasonable price. There is a slight delay between motion detected and recording, but it does capture activity and record video in a high quality format.

I have 3 Canary cameras in my house, 2 indoor and one outdoor. This particular camera is outside showing my driveway. I have it powered with a cord at all time, even though it has a rechargeable battery. Having to run an extension cord from the outlet box to the device is not ideal because it's very noticeable. But when it's unplugged, to save on battery power, it enters sleep mode which takes a few moments to wake up from. Because of this it often times would miss recording action in my driveway. By the time it's awake, there is no longer anyone walking by. So if one were to drive by and throw a rock at my parked car, for example. It would not capture it because it was sleeping. By having it plugged in at all times it starts recording the first moment motion is detected.

Early adopter of original Canary - back in 2015. Device scratches a particular itch for me: I want some measure of security on my home / business when I'm not there (often), and I don't want to sign up for a monthly service plan. Since I have good internet service & power backups at both locations the Canary service is PERFECT for me since it integrates with my cell phone.
This model has four excellent improvements over original - making it a fantastic overall product:
1) Outdoor use / weatherproof
2) Excellent, long-life battery (don't have to plug in / but I recommend doing so)
3) Flexible positioning on magnetic base - can angle up/down (very useful for outdoor situations)
4) Long cord ( A+++ )
Purchased this as second-unit for office - I am already running the Canary app for home monitoring but frankly everything I have in the office is probably more valuable.
LOVE that it integrates directly with my current setup - I don't have to install a new application & monitoring is seamless therefore in both locations. That's probably the true power of Canary - that you can monitor multiple locations (or floors) seamlessly within the same app. I ended up moving this unit indoors (I like that its flexible) to monitor second floor & after tuning sensitivity it's been working great - last alert was for an unscheduled cleaning visit.
Highly recommend if you're seeking: 1) a flexible product that can be used both in and outdoors, 2) desire a battery backup (internal in the device for no extra charge, 3) don't want to sign up for a monthly service plan (it looks useful but is totally optional), 4) overall quality, integrated device.

I pre-ordered my first device when I purchased my home under the impressions I wouldn't need a membership for the uses I wanted (I'd be able to get notified, have access to my footage long enough to see and download it if needed, and communicate via the microphone). As of a month or so ago, they decided that wouldn't be the case. Fine. I purchased a membership. Then yesterday, a package was stolen from my front door. I reached out to see why I wasn't alerted. I was told it was my fault. My sensitivity settings were too low. Mind you, I get alerts when shadows move or when a kid walked by my yard in the back (through my other camera). I was surprisingly alerted when the delivery man dropped off the package. But this punk comes up to my door, lingers enough to check out the box and then walks away with it and I get silence. In other words, either your phone blows up every minute or you'll only get notified if someone BIG is within range. There is NO middle. And if you are notified, it'll be after the fact when you can't let them know you're watching because the lag time is significant. Honestly, buy anything else. Canary just is not worth it.

The camera itself feels nice and the image quality is decent. BUUTTTT the app is terrible! I had to reload, uninstall and restart the app at least 10 times. That was just to finish the setup of the camera, after setup it seemed fine but did crash 2 more times. This wasn't over a long time period either this was in one day.
On top of all of the app frustrations, to do anything with the camera as far as settings goes almost always requires the membership. I'm not the type of person that likes to fine tune useless configurations either. All I wanted to do is setup up a zone so it would alert me my son was up.
At first I was just worried about the battery because I have a mesh network. But this thing didn't even let me get that far. This review is based off the app almost entirely. The camera seemed fine but I suppose it was probably the camera that made the load time for the live feed take almost 5 years. In conclusion I'm not a fan.

The Camera quality is great and is very easy to set up. Where it lacks is in the features. In order for you to have a real security system with the Canary camera, you need to have a subscription. If you do not have a subscription you only get a 24 hr video review. not the whole day. If you want to download the videos you have to have subscription. Just not worth the money or it should be catalogued as Security Camera. Rather pay Xfinity monthly and get camera and the service than have to spend $199 on a camera plus $14 a month for the subscription. I took it back to the store and bought the Arlo Pro. Arlo is more for the people that want control over the features of the security system.

Very good video quality and does a great job detecting activity. You may set alert levels. However with our main Canary unit, lately we have been having issues with the network not realizing when my wife's phone leaves the house, thus we do not receive alerts.

I like the product though it does have limitations. Set up was a breeze with the base unit and just as easy with the add on. For me it does the job of monitoring a vacation home and permits me to see both inside with the base unit and outside with the additional camera. It also provides interior temperature and humidity which is great for me. We have 4 family members that can see what is going on with ease. You can set to auto shut off when in residence then back on when you leave. It is worth the money at least so far - only about 90 days into use.

Purchased this Canary Flex camera recently, and I have been very satisfied with it. The design and build quality is great and feels very sturdy. It looks great in my home and does not look and feel like other cheaper looking cameras. It really stands out in its design. The software is great too as I have it linked to my phone. Very high quality video, and the auto motion sensor works very well with the push notifications to my phone. I've also tried this outdoors and I can see that it would stand up well to all different outdoor weather conditions. I highly recommend this Canary Flex security camera. I'm now considering purchasing the original Canary home security system.

Replay picture is good, but it's frustrating with the things it alerts and records for me. It's constantly sending alerts for trees that are moving in the wind and rain/snowflakes and bugs that go by it. I can "masked" some of the trees to reduce the alerts but not all of them. Now the things it doesn't capture which leads to more frustrations. I have my camera mounted on my front porch aimed to capture the front door and driveway. The mailman delivered a package to me one day. It showed and alerted me of him driving up the driveway, then the video stops. It DID NOT record him walking up to my porch right in front of the camera and placing the package down and him leaving. If this was a porch pirate the camera would not have done me any good. There are other instances that video stops recording too, when it should not have. I would much rather have it record people on my porch than tress and snow blowing in the wind.

Hi I purchase this camera because I wanted to keep an eye on things but notice you have to pay membership on to use most feature on the camera while other cameras are free of charge to use the two way talk and it doesn't has a siren like others other than that it is a great camera but there are others least expensive with better features and are free.

I got this camera after one of my truck windows was broken and this camera has given me a felling of security. I have already had another night where someone walked up to my truck with a flashlight and they saw the camera turned around and ran. The HD camera has a good picture and the motion sensor allows for it to capture everything that happens in front of my house. It is well made not a cheap plastic shell like most security cameras I looked at. The only problem is that the notifications for it sensing motion is so slow. You can’t use it to notify you about someone being at your front door because you either need to answer the door or the person has already left by the time you get a notification with a video of who it is. Which is ok because that’s not what it’s made for. So I will be moving it to the side of my house to only watch my vehicles and purchasing a video doorbell. It’s been a great purchase.

Works well. Good picture and easy access through mobile app. However connectivity is frequently lost which does not happen with the indoor canary. Battery life had been very good but depends on the sensitivity level and how often you wake it up. Overall, worth it if you already have other canary devices.

If you want a small, compact cord free, wireless camera, this product is for you. The first thing to notice is the boxing of the product. The build is very solid and very hefty. The set up is straight forward through the app for both Android and iOS. The setup gives options for the hours you want the camera active, geo-fencing to determine when you are home or away. The camera setup also allows multiple users. A unique feature that it can be used both indoors and outdoors. No cords are required in that it has a built-in rechargeable lithium battery that can remain charge for several months. If you need a camera that has these features, then this camera is highly recommended.
