I'm in love with this 70-300mm zoom lens for my Canon 60D. I love how the lens locks in place when I'm not shooting. Very versatile. I switch back and forth between manual and auto focus often. Easy to use. Sharp shots hand held, even better with a tripod. Money well spent on this lens, I'm very happy. I shoot landscape, flowers, wildlife, and portrait photography, this lens is worth the cost.

I love this lens. It is large but feels very sturdy and not overly heavy. I recently tested the 70-200mm f/4 L which is a beast compared to this lens and was very pleased with my current lens. Although I will be purchasing the 70-200mm soon as my kids have plays and such indoors with low light and the f/2.8 will be needed.

After first getting the non IS model, this one is is excellent. The IS works well I've found and the pictures come out very nice. Works good on portraits also.

    Great lens! Can't go wrong!

I've had this lens for 3 years now and I have loved it the entire time. I used it for every photo shoot I did, and worked FANTASTIC for shooting horses and horse shows especially. If you're a nature shooter or you shoot planes, or anything far away or small, this lens would work great for you. I've had lots of success with it focusing accurately (the camera you have is a big help, too. Can't shoot a good image with a bad camera, even if you have a good lens). My only complaint is that the motor is loud, but that's what happens when you get a lens with a motor in it. I haven't had a problem with the motor noise scaring off any forest friends, though, so I don't think that's something anyone has to worry about. It really doesn't even bother me, but it might bother some people. The motor also sucks up the battery juice a lot faster. Not a big deal if you have more than one battery, but just a heads up. You really can not go wrong, in my opinion, with this lens. The USM makes shooting far away things possible without a tripod. Doesn't mean you won't need one on occasion, but 98% of the time, you won't! Sadly, after having this lens for 3 years, I do have to send it in for repair because AF is no longer responsive. It may have just been from it jarring around in the bag I carry my equipment in, but who knows. I would definitely buy this lens again if I have to!

    Solid Telephoto

This is a great addition to your kit, especially since it runs all the way unto 300mm (480mm equivalent on a AFS-C I believe). The build is very solid, but the weight will certainly not go unnoticed if you are comparing to the plastic lenses that generally come with SLR kits. Multiple image stabilization modes (still vs tracking) are nice depending on your subject. The ultrasonic motor however sounds like a robot is dancing around in your camera, and is quite loud. The the quality of images are excellent, and you can get macro-like images with the relatively short focal length (3 ft or so at 75 mm i think).

Work bought one of these for me to use, and I liked it so much I'm buying one for my personal photo kit. The 300 zoom gives you lots of reach, and it focuses fairly quick. I used this lens for the first time at the Grand Am race at Indianapolis, and it performed very well. Considering the amount of zoom, the size is excellent. It is not too heavy/ cumbersome.

Bought this lens to go with my Canon 60D and I love it. My kids play football and parents arent allowed on the field. My only option is to take pics from the bleachers. The zoom is get great pictures from a long distance. Great for out doors, dont think its good for indoors. The lens its self is a little heavy but what did you expect? Great buy, strongly suggest you do some homework on price. Bestbuy will match it.

    Nice Lens

I love that this lens has the IS feature. In all of the years I've owned Canon, this is the first set of lenses that I've had IS on. Since I'm getting older - my hand is not a steady as it used to be - the IS feature really helps! Also the 70-300 is a nice coverage distance. Very pleased! Shots taken from 18th floor balcony - with two (2) different lenses.

I got a great canon 60D camera kit from BB that came with a 18-200mm lens and I wanted just a little more zoom. So I picked up this lens and let me tell you what a great purchase. It is easy to use and it works great, very clear photos along with great action photos too using your sports mode. I also recommend everyone to use their "price match" offer it is top notch and you DO save money!!

This was the first telephoto zoom lens I have bought and I have taken it on two trips so far. I have had zero problems dealing with elements from rain and snow to heat and dust. The image stabilization is excellent and the crispness of the small aperture shots blows me away. You probably wouldn't expect a telephoto zoom lens to be capable of taking beautiful landscape shots but at 70 mm and a f32 aperture this lens performs amazingly well. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a first telephoto lens but not wanting to put down big(ger) bucks for the "white one's".

Great genuine Canon telephoto lens. Originally had the regular 70-300mm from Canon. The new version along with the IS and USM make this a great telephoto option. Quick and quiet focus at all focal lenghts.

If you're not into spending thousands on Canon L lenses, this is a great alternative. Focusing is fast and accurate. The Image Stabilization is top notch. 2 modes are available, one being excellent for panning with a moving subject. This lens is terrific for wildlife, landscapes, and even the occasional moon picture. It's not light- get yourself a good, solid tripod with smooth movement.

    Great mid-level Telephoto Lens

This is my first telephoto lens. I have only been shooting for two months, currently using this lens with my T4i and I have no complaints. Image quality is great, not L lens quality but very capable of getting great close up shots, especially at longer distance. So far I have used it mostly for birdwatching and other wildlife photography, will probably do some portraits soon. I posted some pics I took around the bird feeder in my backyard.

This lens was expensive but I'm so happy I purchased it!!! I bought it for my grandsons soccer season and have taken some fantastic action shots from across the field. You can clearly see the determination on their faces as if your were running right next to them. The image stabilizer works wonderfully when your taking shots and cheering at the same time! I would highly recommend this lens because of the image stabilizer. As I learned, not all lens has that feature. It's well worth the price! I'm looking forward to taking it to the beach and Disney World!

I had the no usm canon zoom, and it was great. Took very sharp pictures. Of course, you needed support when shooting at 300mm. I have a monopod so it wasn't a big deal. But, when I upgraded my camera, I decided to go with the usm lens. Wow! I still use my monopod, but there are times I want or need to grab images faster than I'm able to adjust the monopod. The usm feature makes up for a lot of shots that might otherwise have been blurry. Plus, it's better glass and takes great pictures throughout its zoom.

I am completely satisfied with this lens. I needed an additional lens to supplement my 18-200mm Canon IS lens, and this Canon 70-300mm IS lens gave me the required additional power for my wild life pictures. Pictures are sharp and crisp, and the lens is well made as I have found all Canon lens to be.
