    This is a good middle of the road(price) Canon zoom lens that preforms well and will last a long time. I.S. works great as does every Canon IS lens I own.

    As an inexperienced photographer this lens added a new dimension to my photos - especially close up shots of wildlife on my daily walks in the woods. Close up shots are very clear!

    I already have a f/4 55-250 and really have no use for real fast (USM driven) focus changes, so I really did not find this to be a necessary addition to my lenses. If you do not have the 55-250 mm one and you do change focus distances a lot I would probably recommend it over the 55-250. Sadly, I was recently spoiled by renting a f/2.8 70-200mm Canon, and words cannot describe the difference between an f/2.8 and an f/4, particularly in low light (gymnasium) settings.

    I bought this lens because I did not want to spend the money on an L-series before having some experience working with telephoto zooms. Perhaps I should have taken the plunge, especially since I do professional video and photo work with this lens. But so far I have found this lens to be more than adequate for what I ask of it. Obviously its smaller aperture puts some limits on low-light shooting. But again, it is adequate for mid-level professional images. I would not recommend it for large prints or serious artwork though.
