Needed a light weight camera due to arthritis in my hands. I have always used Canon cameras and was pleased to find one that suited my needs. Very easy to use and takes wonderful pictures. Price was a plus too.

    Awesome dSLR Camera

This is the perfect camera for those that are looking for big performance in a little small form factor. I have several dSLR camera's and wanted something that was a little smaller to take with me places where a larger dSLR camera would be the way. I was pleasantly surprised by the camera on how fast it is and how small it is without compromising quality. This camera is capable of taking 18mp images, 5 frames per second, video, uses EF and EF-S lenses. It has a touchscreen interface on the back that is permanently affixed to the camera (I like this better than swivel screens as I've accidentally managed to break one one and it was super expensive to repair). This camera does what it needs to within the limits it was designed for. It can hold it's own against some of the bigger more expensive SLR's, but is also a great camera for beginners as well. I love this camera and highly recommend it. My brother purchased the T5i last year which is bigger and was more expensive, but this camera does everything it can do in a small form factor. If you are on the fence to purchase this camera or not, go for it - you wont be disappointed.

I am new to the DSLR world and purchased this during a bundle promotion as I wanted something better than my point and shoot camera. The features found in this camera are amazing. You get everything that the larger DSLRs have just in a smaller package. I have seen reviews elsewhere of people complaining that the camera is too small; I have fairly large hands (at 6'2") and find that the camera is a good size and very comfortable to use for any length of time. One of the main reasons I decided to go with a DSLR is that I like to take pictures of my reef tank at home and it is impossible to get any good pictures with the basic settings found on point and shoot cameras. I also like being able to adjust my shutter speed to take those hard to get photos. This camera has had no problem taking these images. I have attached some of the photos so you can see for yourselves. ABSOLUTELY would recommend.

I bought it as a back up to my EOS 80D but I became very close to it since its good image quality ( almost similar to 80D) , handling ( smaller and lighter) and sharing the same lens have convinced me to use it quite more than 80D. It does not have all the technical qualities and developments of 80D but it is a great camera.

The Canon Rebel SL1 has features and capabilities that rival much more expensive cameras, together with a touch screen that few, if any others, offer - certainly not in the same price range. The Auto setting enables even rank amateurs to take crisp, high resolution shots, and the onscreen menu, coupled with a little study of some basic photography principles, simplifies use of the camera's premium features and capabilities. I asked the salesman what I considered the "key" question: "What digital camera in the SLR category is fairly compact, and offers me the most bang for the buck in terms of quality and capability for the price. His answer was, "The Canon Rebel SL1." For both conventional photos and digital videos -- it does not disappoint. He was right - a lotta bang for the buck.

A lot of camera for the money!

I'm an amateur photographer and absolutely thrilled with the quality of the photos I'm getting with this camera, especially using the 70-300mm lens! Lightweight and easy to use. I benefited from the free on-line photography courses, but still need instruction on how to set the camera to the needed exposure in manual mode. The good news is, that as an amateur I don't need manual mode. The auto mode is so smart - it knows when to lessen depth of field to blur the background for a close-up shot and increase depth of field for a landscape shot. I've gotten amazingly detailed photos of a dragonfly, seagull, catbird - all using auto focus. (could only upload the seagull because of size restrictions - sorry) I can't put the camera down! All I want to do is go on photo shoots :) You get a lot of equipment for the money in this package. I couldn't be happier. Having a blast.

    Very happy with this camera

I have owned this camera for nearly a year and a half now and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. I purchased this as an upgrade from my Nikon D3000 as I wanted a DSLR with more features and better ISO capabilities and I have been very happy with my experience with Canon thus far. The main reason I chose this camera was for its features and size, plus the fact that it came with 2 lenses (18-55mm and 75-300mm and I also purchased the Canon "nifty fifty" lens to go with it to have as a prime lens). We travel a decent amount and I usually like to take my camera with me, but traveling with a large, bulky DSLR can be a bit of a pain, so I was thrilled to find such a small, compact DSLR. Don't let the size of this camera fool you. This camera's performance easily rivals many of the more expensive DLSRs and produces not only amazing quality photos, but also outstanding quality HD video. I had kind of low expectations going in as far as the video quality that this camera would produce, but I have to admit that I was completely blown away by how awesome the video quality is. It really is true HD. The touch screen on this camera is also a plus; however, I don't really find myself using it all that often. Overall, this is a perfect camera for photographers of all skill levels, from amateur to even pro, and you won't have to spend thousands of dollars on it. I would consider myself an intermediate level photographer (not pro, but definitely not a beginner) and I have received so many compliments on the quality of my photos taken with this camera and everyone who has seen my camera is amazed by it's small size. I highly, highly recommend the Rebel SL1!

Bought this as a gift for my wife. The smallest camera of the SLR's out there but fully featured. Easy to use and takes great/fast pictures in the dark with it's high ISO capability. Strongly recommend it to starting photographer and definitely for a woman with small hands. I chose the bundle with the 300 zoom so we can photograph our kids playing sports etc.

If you are tired of guessing what your picture will look like due to sunlight making it impossible to see what is on the view screen, then switch to camera with a viewfinder. Very easy to operate. Beautiful clear pictures. Camera is very light weight.
