I pair the Canon RF 35mm f/1.4 VCM with my Canon R5 Mark II, and the results are simply amazing. The image quality is exceptional—sharp, clear, and free from chromatic aberration even at wide apertures. There’s no noticeable vignetting at f/1.4, and the lens maintains consistent exposure across the frame.
Although it's marketed as a hybrid lens, and many reviewers say it’s geared towards video, I’ve been using it for still photography for the past two months and can confidently say it delivers excellent results. The 35mm focal length is incredibly versatile, whether I'm shooting portraits, landscapes, or street photography. The f/1.4 aperture provides great subject isolation and a smooth, pleasing bokeh.
The build quality is impressive—solid, durable, and well-crafted. The new focus rings feel smooth and precise, and the customizable rings and buttons are a welcome feature, allowing me to tailor the lens to my preferences.
The only downside is the shaking sound during autofocus. It’s not always noticeable, but in quiet environments, it can be a bit distracting.
Overall, the Canon RF 35mm f/1.4 VCM paired with the R5 Mark II delivers crisp, vibrant images, a versatile focal length, and excellent build quality. Despite its video focus, it performs beautifully for stills as well. The autofocus noise is the only downside, but it doesn’t overshadow the performance. A fantastic combination for serious photographers.

This is a fun lens for travel and just carrying around. It’s F1.4 capability helps this lens focus in low light situations and the jpegs look great! I don’t use this lens for anything that requires me to shoot RAW files… hopefully a RF 35mm F1.2 will be announced in the future (optically correct for RAW file use).
