The image quality is excellent. The auto focus tracks the moving target accurately. I recommend the lens especially for portraits. The light weight and compact size is a plus. Overall I am happy with this lens and highly recommend it.

Title: Incredible upgrade. Lightweight, sharp, and fast
Review:
I absolutely love this lens! I can’t believe I waited so long to upgrade from my older EF 70-200mm. The image quality is phenomenal. Super crisp and clean shots every time. The autofocus speed is impressive, locking on quickly and accurately.
What surprised me most is how much lighter and more compact this RF version is compared to the EF lens. It fits easily in my camera bag and doesn’t weigh me down on long shoots. As a photographer, it’s become an essential part of my kit. I truly never leave home without it.
Pros:
Razor-sharp image quality
Lightning-fast focus speed
Much lighter and more compact than EF 70-200mm
Fits easily into standard camera bags
Cons:
Premium price (but worth every penny)
Tip: Pair it with an EOS R-series body to get the most out of the fast autofocus and image stabilization.

After switching to an R5 from a 5D Mark II, I decided to get the EF to RF adapter so I could use my EF 70-200mm 2.8 IS II and it was… alright. The lens still performed well, but by the time I had the adapter and lens attached to the R5 it just felt too bulky and heavy for travel. With some airlines being pickier than others, I wanted to make sure my backpack would pass airline weight restrictions.
A friend recommended going down to an f/4 lens for a lighter lens, but if I can have a slightly heavier lens and not have to pack a tripod or monopod, then it’s worth it for me. I also love the bokeh of the f/2.8. I then saw that this lens was more compact and lighter than my EF lens while maintaining a fixed f/2.8, so it was the best of both worlds.
Aside from the size and weight the image quality was superior compared to my EF lens. The autofocus was also way quicker especially when shooting in Servo. The lens image stabilization combined with the in-body stabilization was so steady to the point where I removed the tripod mount. I still use it when I plan on using a tripod, but for lighter travel I remove it to save the weight. The lens hood is a a bit wide than I’d prefer, it’s not terrible.
It was one heck of an upgrade and I can already feel the difference on my back when traveling and especially my neck. Sharp, quick, light and compact. I regret not just being this when I got the camera.

Another fantastic lens if you can afford it. The compactness versus the EF version is really nice. I much prefer the extension plus a smaller lens versus the EF large size. It makes the lens a little less conscipicuous. I think for a travel lens, this is really a nice option. Not too large, big focal range, big performance through the range, and unfortunately big price to go with it. If you can afford it, it's a lovely tool to have on the camera.

I cannot say enough great things about the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM! This lens is an absolute game-changer for my photography. The image quality is razor-sharp, with beautiful contrast and dreamy bokeh that makes portraits, wildlife, and even action shots stand out.
The autofocus is lightning fast and whisper quiet, making it perfect for capturing those fleeting moments with precision. The image stabilization is phenomenal, allowing me to shoot handheld even in lower light without worry. Plus, the build quality is exactly what you’d expect from Canon’s L-series – solid, weather-sealed, and built to last.
What truly surprised me was how compact and lightweight this lens is compared to previous 70-200mm versions. It’s much easier to carry around, making it my go-to for travel and outdoor photography.
If you’re on the fence, just get it. Whether you’re a professional or an enthusiast looking to step up your game, this lens delivers in every way. Worth every penny!

Excellent lens! Yes, it’s expensive but if you’re a professional photographer this will change your business. If you’re a hobbyist and can afford it, you’ll love the results!
The L series RF lenses are amazing but the 70-200mm f2.8 takes the cake! This lens is an ESSENTIAL part of my kit.

amazing low light capability and durable. I dropped this lens twice and felt my soul leave my body. Once when the cheap tripod tipped over and the lens went face first into the dirt and wood chips unprotected. No damage or scratches. The second time when a cord got tangled and pulled the lens off the shelf where it fell 3ft onto a wood floor. Again, no damage. Maybe I am just lucky, or maybe Canon built a durable lens. Overall, the photo quality is great, and I appreciate the external zoom for photography as it opens up creativity with abstract shots. This lens is also great for Lanscape, portrait and video. I am happy to have this lens in my collection.

I got this lens before I started my first drift season and I have not use another lens since! It’s a little pricey but I wanted the extra stop and better bokeh than the f/4 version.

I love the lens, however i absolutely hate the fact that the zoom ring is up front instead of closer to the camera. other than that, I love it. Had a great salesman at the Bham Bestbuy off 280, they have lots of high end canon stuff. Going from an older EF 70-200 F2.8 to this and it is so much easier to walk around with.

I love this lens. It has treated me well for all of my sport action shots, as well as maternity photos, family photos, and everything in between definitely a must have.

I decided to get this for my first lens on the R8. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it feels like cheating. If you wanna be about 15-20 feet from your subject to fit them in the frame at the closest. I should have gotten the 24-70 MM one first but im getting it now so. nice

A worthy successor to the EF 70-200 f2.8 II
I thought the fact the lens extends outwards would bother me but the thicker shape to the lens barrel helps with the grip and it becomes a non issue, it also packs nicely in the camera bag as well, even attached to the camera body which is a welcome change.

I primarily use this lense for athletic events - swimming, soccer and lacrosse. It is quick, sharp and and at F2.8 lets in a lot of light for quick stop action.
