If you just want to access files on the drive quickly (for instance, if you're editing footage from it) it works well. But for fast large data transfers it's definitely not a good drive to use. The write cache is pretty awful, which essentially means that it starts out fast (~800MB/s), but after a few minutes of transferring it slows to a crawl (~50MB/s). The read speeds are fine, though, so most people won't have these issues. I was hoping to use it on a film shoot as a fast intermediate drive for large memory card transfers--transferring a few 1TB cards to this, then transferring overnight from this drive to other backup drives--but I wound up spending literally the entire night/next morning just trying to transfer everything to this one (setting phone alarms throughout the night to wake me up and start transferring the next card). My 5TB Western Digital Passport HDD works faster than this and is a quarter the price. So if you have a lot of time to slowly make that initial transfer and just want to read data that's on there quickly, it's a pretty good drive. The size is pretty great, it's smaller than my other portable SSDs (Samsung T5 and T7, SanDisk Extreme Pro), which is impressive since it's 4TB.

Huge capacity, very compact, and hopefully less failure prone than the spinning disk I was using for my media server storage!

Great product! I got mine on sale. Bought it for $230. At that price for a 4tb, very VERY small and slim form factor portable external SSD that's magically plug and play with no muss or fuss around it, I think if you can catch this on sale, go for the 4TB model! I got lucky with my laptop and bought an internal 4tb NvMe for $400 online, but if I knew this little guy existed before that purchase, I would've saved my money and just got this portable 4tb SSD instead. Well worth the sale price!

While very small unit was good price and high capacity, every time I restart my MAC, the MAC tries to boot from the Crucial, not its indwelling HD. And yes, the preferences are correctly set to designate boot drive. So I just have to dismount and disconnect the crucial... Customer service was no help at all.

I've used this SSD for years on my biggest projects. It's even worked great through my own user errors. Also, pretty happy with its build even though its not rated for extreme conditions.

got this as extra storage for my PC for files I want present but don't access too often. As storage, it works fine. Just beware that the transfer times can be quite slow if you're doing multiple files at a time.

Most reliable hard drive ever! Working in media, I'm continuously access old and adding new files. I've purchased other drives and nothing compares to the reliability factor of this drive
