Have no real interest in Winston Churchill, have grown bored of Hollywood's WWII films, thought Gary Oldman was just a decent actor, and really fone with these pseudo documentary/biopics being churned out enough masse these days. As Master Skywalker said in the newest Star Wars film The Last Jedi (available on sale now, with exclusive Steel books in store and on bestbuy.com, highly recommended also) "FUNNY HOW EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID WAS WRONG" Not 5 star, but definitely a 4 1/2 star. I am invigorated by the thought there are still great WWII motion pictures that can be made. I literally understood a new correlation to the events at, and immidiately bought another 4 star plus film named after, but the events at DUNKIRK (on sale now at bestbuy.com in 4k UHD definitely add that to your cart with Darkest Hour, and hey YOU JUST QUALIFIED FOR FREE SHIPPING, BONUS BONUS!! Gary Oldman starred wonderfully in this movie I’ was really close to believe he is true Winston Churchill. Movie is fabulous!!

With having relatives that served during WW2 and hearing their stories, I was looking forward to watching. It is the Dawn of WWII with Germany invading all of Europe. England now stands alone and Churchill (Gary Oldman) is appointed Prime Minister of England. Winston Churchill now faces the most important decision of his life, negotiate a peace treaty with Hitler or stand firm against Germany's tyranny. With his own party against him he must rally his people and fight for the future survival of England.

I purchased this movie without having watched it in the theaters, which is something I rarely ever do. However, the positive word-of-mouth surrounding this film was to overwhelming to ignore. Plus, I'm a sucker for period dramas. The power that this film is able to maintain through the drama of a battle/war the outcome of which the majority of the audience is familiar is astounding. Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill is the epitome of transformation into a role. Well worth the Oscar he finally earned.

This is an very good movie which talks about the trials and tribulations of Winston Churchill and the darkest hours of World War II faced by Britain. The movie also tells the tale of Churchill's rise to power and his fights with those who wanted to make piece with the Germans.

Movie is slow but really great at capturing what was going on at the time of WWll. Good acting. Great movie for adults who enjoy historical movies. Not much action as the movie focuses on Winston Churchill. Comes with a digital copy.

Gary Oldman has always been a chameleon of sorts and one of the best actors working today. He transforms himself here, getting so deep that at times you forget that you're NOT actually watching documentary footage of Churchill himself.

Such a great movie. Wonderful to see such great performances based on a slice of history. I got it for my mom, who in her 80s doesn't get to the theater much or have a streaming service, could see it since she loves Churchill!

I bought this movie for my father-in-law, who is a huge World War II buff. He never got the chance to watch in theaters. It came with the digital copy which allowed him to watch it on his computer at work (not recommended. Ha)

I was extremely lost when I watched Dunkirk, but after watching Darkest Hour and then Dunkirk a second time, you realize how amazing both movies really are. Academy Award winning Commissioner Gordon is great in this one.

This movie was good. It had excellent directing, cinematography, and acting. Gary Oldman was amazing in his depictions of Winston Churchill and Ben Mendelsohn as king George was excellent. The film ends with one of Mr Churchill famous addresses. Even though the story was a downer, the film ended offering hope and was uplifting. Well worth watching.

Academy Award for best actor Gary Oldman. True story of the Dunkirk evacuation in vivid detail and Prime Minister Winston Churchill portrayed by Gary Oldman so realistically. Phenomenal acting by Old man.

This a very fine movie. Acting was outstanding by the incredible Gary Oldman, that alone was worth the purchase price. The movie was produced very well too, great production on this period piece.

Actor Gary Oldman did an excellent job capturing Winston Churchill. While the movie takes a while to find its groove the majority of the movie, including the final climax is a must see.

Watch this historical drama about a time of uncertainty. Winston Churchill, now elected Prime Minister of the UK, needs to navigate his country through dark and difficult times against the Germans.

Loved this movie from beginning to end I was born 1 months after victory in Europe day and love history this presents the way it happened without much over dramatization of the facts five stars

They really knocked it out of the park with this movie! You feel like you're really back in those days and in that time watching it. Very educational and every part of the movie is well done!

Best to have some historical background to give better appreciation Also, understanding of just how UK parliamentary government worked, particularly role of monarch.

Had heard this was a good movie and I was not disappointed. Great drama that shows some extra light on things that happened that don't often get talked about.
