Decent Laptop But Comes With Issues

Having read all the negative reviews on this particular laptop that I believe Dell makes specially for Best Buy , I still went ahead and made the purchase. The low price, 8GB of RAM, and an SSD (albeit small) was too much to resist. Of course, right out of the gate there was an issue with the Touchpad. Sometimes it would work, other times it was non-existent. But I had read plenty of reviews from others with this same problem, so I got on the Dell website to see if any new drivers were available to rectify the "now you see it, now you don't" Touchpad. There was in fact a newer driver I quickly installed that has solved the problem to date. One down. Next I turned to the small 128GB SSD. With Windows 10 and Office 2013 loaded, there was hardly any space left so I researched upgrading the SSD to a 500GB drive. The hardest part of this was cloning the existing drive on to the new 500GB SSD. I had to mess with partitions and take some time to get everything right. It wasn't the most arduous thing I've ever done, but it was an effort. Second issue down! The third problem admittedly caught me off guard. After using this brand new laptop for just two weeks the internal battery died! What? I got on the phone to Dell and after spending about 35 minutes with them, the tech finally admitted that yes, indeed my battery was toast. This was a Friday and Dell kindly overnighted a replacement that I happily installed. Voila! No more dead battery. Overall it's a nice little laptop for the price. Just keep in mind you may have to tweak it to your liking.

I just wanted a basic windows computer to take with me to classes and work trips, and this little 11 inch was fantastic in theory. The solid state and 8 gb ram should have been enough to offset the pentium processor a bit, which keeps the price down. The first day I took it home, out of curiosity, I put it through the wringer -- I was amazed to find that, while it was a bit slow, it actually was able to play World of Warcraft and run Photoshop Elements rather well. The size was definitely my favorite aspect -- it is tablet-sized but has a full, attached keyboard, making it super-portable but still lap-friendly. Unfortunately, a day in, the sound card started glitching up and after buzzing loudly sound would go out entirely until the machine was reset. The track pad wasn't great from the beginning, but there is some issue with the drivers to it that would make it lock up and not work every so often, as well. After talking with another friend who purchased the same machine and had the exact same issues, I decided to return mine and not get another identical model. Unfortunately no other brand has a computer this size for this price so I'm going to wait for a while before buying anything else. My advice is, if you really want this computer, test it thoroughly for the first week it is in your possession. If it is still working well by the end of the return policy, I'd bet it would last for a while. Geek squad protection would definitely be worth it. For me, though, it just isn't worth the risk of keeping it past the return policy.

    Terrific travel computer

I bought this little laptop to be a travel computer. Just got back from my trip, and it did great! I've had it for almost two months now. It was easy to take through the airport and easy to carry and store. I love the touch screen. The laptop is a little quirky - sometimes the touchpad pointer disappears and you must reboot. Several times, early on, I must have done something wrong turning it on, and couldn't get it to turn on for a while. But since I've checked for the little light to come on when I turn it on, I haven't had any problems. When I turn it off, I also wait for the light to come on, then go off, before I close the lid. Don't know if that really helps or not, but haven't had any problems since doing it. On Dell's site several weeks ago, I gave it three stars, but have now upped my rating to four stars. Love this tiny 2-in-1!

    Great Laptop... But

I really love the 2-in-1 style of this laptop, it's perfect for college students who like the ability to take digital notes in class. It's exactly what I was looking for! It is working great for me so far... the only problems I have had all seem to be connected to Windows 10 bugs. Windows 10 was a pain to install in the first place, and now that it is installed, I keep getting this "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" message and my computer will just restart out of nowhere. Overall great product, but consider not upgrading to Windows 10 until they have a chance to fix this error.

    This computer was terrible

Leaving aside the perhaps-obvious problems of Windows 8 (I didn't know anything about Windows 8 before buying it so didn't know its terrible reputation and was not warned by store staff that something better was just weeks away), this actual machine was quite buggy and I ended up returning it. I love the Surface-like idea of turning into a tablet, and it was definitely light-weight, but sometimes in laptop mode the mouse would just disappear, which was annoying. It also had trouble waking up after being in sleep mode. The computer also almost immediately showed the power driver failure error message. Maybe it was the particular machine I had but all these problems were too much (within two weeks!) and I had to return it.

As a life-long Mac user, I was somewhat hesitant to switch to Windows and a PC. That said, my experience has been excellent thus far. With a solid-state hard drive, this laptop starts within seconds and performs quickly with superb mobility. The screen can easily be folded back for use as a tablet with an automatic switch to tablet mode. The processor and 8GB RAM perform well and allow me to quickly run statistical analyses in R and JMP. I would recommend this computer to a person who wants the sophistication, speed, and mobility of a Mac with the functionality of a tablet and a Windows platform at a remarkable price. 5/5 stars.

I bought this laptop for the purpose of school work and the occasional Netflix show. The speakers crackle at times and the image freezes at least once an hour. School work the touch screen works great, but overall I would not purchase this again given the chance.

The machine does the job that it was intended to with a couple hiccups. I have found that the machine sometimes has wanted to disable the trackpad when it is not in tablet mode forcing me to use the touch screen. I also found the facial recognition software is a trial version. I guess it is a good thing I am planning to upgrade it to Windows 10 which has it's own version of this software.

Purchased due to 2-in-1 feature. Family member had purchased same model previously. I had to return first laptop due to mother board failure, but Best Buy replaced it since it happened in the first 14 days. Replacement seems to be working well. Does occasionally drop internet connection briefly - not sure why that happens. I do like the touch-screen and the size/weight of this model.

Perfect size and weight to carry to meetings. Was a little disappointed with some issues that I was having, exp. mouse didn't work all of the time, would shut down and get 'power' error messages. Hopefully, the bugs have worked out - otherwise, I'll have it back to the store to check it out.

I'm pretty satisfied, light weight, easy to grab and go. I just bought it because my homework was online. I wanted something light and small easy to travel. I'm not good with computers and programs, but it's pretty simple. Only had it couple of months. So I hope it lasts me for a decent good of time. Make my money worth my while.

Worst Dell I've owned so far

I had 2 Dell desktops [still use 1] and this is my 4th Dell laptop since about 2002. I have to sat this is the worst - and I have to call support 2 times already - never called for previous Dells. Two problem areas: touchpad [I typed TOUCHBAD :-)] that basically turns off on its own and just crashes due to driver_power_state. Yes, I have the updates plus Dell support did something -- touch pad is better now, but I still have crashes. So, I love and use Dell -- but please avoid this one.

Great device however in the first month we've experienced losing the mouse/keyboard capability several times when trying to use like computer. The touch screen continued to work however not ideal when you're in the middle of typing or doing something. The only way we knew to fix it is to close the lid of the laptop and reopen. Not good. Otherwise, great little machine.
