Great small computer, but ports too close for me

I really wanted to make this small laptop work for me, because it had all the specs I wanted, in a very small and light frame, and it felt great to use, but it had a deal breaker set-up for me. For work, I have to use a smart card reader which connects to a USB drive. This particular computer has the one and only USB drive immediately next to the headphone jack. Due to the way my reader is designed, I then could not use the headphone jack for conference calls while my smart card reader is plugged in. While this will not be an issue for 98% of users, I'm simply passing this along for the 2% that will have this issue. I do realize I could use bluetooth, or buy another card reader, or an additional dongle, but I don't want to have to buy more gear to make the simple things work. I'm sure a show room inspection would have revealed this, but while purchasing, we are all shopping by curbside during the corona-virus, and we are limited. Thankfully, I bought an open box, and will return it as such, so BB can redeem it, and I'll pick up another device with a wider spread of ports. OTHER things worth mentioning. The screen was indeed beautiful, but best at the highest brightness setting. At lower brightness settings, it seemed rich, but not more impressive than a standard HD. So, to enjoy it, be prepared to use more battery with it set to high. The speakers were louder than my other laptops, but no bass. If you simply want windows notification sounds, and basic audio, it will work fine, but for rich sound, you'll want to pair with a bluetooth speaker. The keyboard was very nice, comfortable, with appropriate travel, and the touchpad was very responsive, with a slight bit of texture feel to it, not as slick as others I've felt. Overall, a great machine, small, powerful, beautiful screen, nice keys and touchpad. The sound was the only item that underperformed against the other PCs in the house, to include Surface Laptop 3, HP Envy, Macbook Pro, and Samsung.

I had the product for a month now. I actually use it for college. It’s great with a few things to consider. Every now and then the laptop gets warm at the bottom. I would just close the laptop or unplug for a few minutes to keep it cool. It’s not a big deal if you have a laptop fan. Sometimes my MacBook does the same thing. And if you use a tutoring service that has a whiteboard, beware that the pen is considered a mouse so you might not be able to write what you want on the screen. It’s not a big deal to me because that’s with all touchscreen laptops that has a stylus. But the pen works on the One Note application. Just get a separate graphic drawing tablet if you need to get tutored or tutor someone online through a whiteboard. I’m able to put 10-20 tabs and put some music in the background and it handles it fine. It took a while to get use to the Microsoft environment. I also run mainly one engineering program on it so I can’t speak much to that but the space is 512 anyways.. so Love the fingerprint reader.. today it didn’t work but after a restart it did. So every now and then make sure to restart the machine. I use my laptop everyday for class. I would say the battery life is 5 hours and it takes about an hour or so for a full charge. Camera quality is great and a light lights up when you use it. And be careful! A door bumped into my laptop and it got a scratch so i would say it’s susceptible to scratches. Lastly, no one has complained about my microphone or audio yet.

Replaced 10yr old Desktop with this system to get Win 10. Love the USB C docking ability. Very easy to dock the laptop at a desk monitor with the dell do king station I bought. Now my kids can undock easily and use this 2in1 as a tablet. Then pen works great. Better on the airplane than a tablet since you can use upright on the food tray. I have big hands but the keyboard is very standard plenty of room. I think the laptop is very light and thin for travel. It can feel a little hot at times but for size its fine. Cools fine. Excellent screen. Love the Win 10.

I've owned an IT services company for 20+ years and Dell has always been my goto brand. I had high hopes for this machine and then I bought it...First, the good: Integrated Active Pen storage is almost unheard of, not to mention 16GB of ram on a laptop! It has an i7 and Intel dedicated graphics, what's not to love, right? Well, for starters, Dell's flagship Mobile Connect app is awful! I had this device for 2 days and spent more time re-starting services and dependencies for the app then I actually was able to use it. To say it is buggy is an understatement. It needs completely overhauled before Dell should consider bundling it with their system. Don't get me wrong, it mirrored 100% of my iPhone's notifications, but sending messages from the computer, which is the whole point of the app is nearly impossible due to its instability and constant crashing. Aside from that crap-app, the metal chassis is nice, the battery life, which Dell fails to advertise is around 5 hours under normal use which I found to be a little on the disappointing side as well. The trackpad needs some major refining, every after adjusting all of the settings, I still had trouble making use of it. The cursor would jump around with the slightest tap, the mouse pointer would drift off of links, buttons and icons making it hard to open anything. Considering you can purchase similar Inspiron models without the pen for $750, this device is well over-priced at $1299. I could see $799-$849. I ended up returning it and purchasing an HP Spectre, which although it was more expensive, it was well worth the investment.

Very comfortable size and weight.. 4K is amazing... touchscreen makes it convenient. Reboot time, performance with I7, 16GB ram and Optane memory is pretty evident. Haven't had any problems so far.. i bought an open box from best buy with protection plan for my son. I had a couple of false alarms that i was able to troubleshoot them myself over the phone. However, having the protection plan definitely gave me the relief in those occasions especially with a BB in his college town.

I was originally looking for a Dell CPS 13 Laptop. They are beautiful and fast. Unfortunately their features come at a very high cost. While I was searching bestbuy, I found the Inspiron 13” 7000 series 2in1 touch screen laptop. As I was comparing the specs against the XPS, I found there were very few differences. The specific model I was researching was the Dell 7391 13” 4k touchscreen laptop w/ Intel I7 processor, 16gb and 512gb m.2 SSD harddrive. This laptop was on special for just around $1,000! At almost %50 off the price of the comparable XPS 2in1 model, it was irresistible. I was so excited I dropped one on to my bestbuy credit card. I wasn’t specifically looking for a 2in1 model, I wanted to save $ with a traditional laptop. The next morning I picked it up at the store and they brought it out to my vehicle, When I got home and opened the box, I was tickled pink. It is beautiful and very fast. The touchscreen and 2in1 features are fun but I’m not sure how much I Wil use them. Maybe it’ll surprise me and I’ll use them a lot. The 512gb hard drive was big enough to start with but it is upgradeable. Unfortunately the RAM is not. As far as I could tell 16GB of ram was then largest one could buy On the Inspiron 7000 series laptops. I know the XPS 13” 2in1 can be purchased with 32gb of ram. The XPS May have better sound. Anyway, at almost 50% of the price of a Dell XPS 13 2in1 and 60% of a Dell XPS 13 Laptop, this is a great buy. Don’t get me wrong, the xps 13 is a beautiful laptop, I just cold not justify the much higher cost. If you are looking for a small powerful windows laptop, check out the Inspiron 7000series I7 2in1 Laptop (7391). You too may be pleasantly surprised.

This is a great laptop with some minor drawbacks. It gets really hot sometimes and the fun noise was kinda annoying but that’s just only when you updates all the necessary drivers and whatnot. So make sure before you do some work, update right away out of the box. First week that I had it, it shuts off by itself and gives me an error after reboots. But this laptop was blazing fast and the 4K was outstanding. It even converts my 720p external monitor into a 4K tv screen but unfortunately I had to return it.

The Inspiron is quite light (in comparison to say, a MacBook Pro), thin, has a great screen (4K, but drains battery big time), and is really fast. The fingerprint reader works 70% of the time, but it's not a big gripe since other quick login options are available. The pen didn't come with its tiny AAAA battery - don't know if it was supposed to. Anyway, delivery was fast, no service issues thus far.

I bought this computer open box for a significant discount. The sales associate told me that they have a warranty and that geek squad looks them over to make sure they are in good working order. The first day I had it the computer was glitching a lot. Then I tried installing office and I got a message that said memory full. Brought it back to geek squad and they said they fixed it. Went two days with it and happens again. I brought it back and asked for them to exchange it because geek squad said they couldn't fix it. Manager told me that I couldn't exchange it because it was open box. He brought it back to geek squad and had them look at it again. They kept it for 2 days and fixed it. I thought great now I can use it, good as new. Now, about 2 months later and it is glitching again. I pay extra for geek squad and I am not happy with the service from best buy or geek squad. Everything else about the computer is great. It is fast and great for travel.

I bought two of these laptops for my two sons. Setup was a breeze, the laptops were very fast, and the whole process from first startup to updating to the latest Windows and Microsoft Store apps, along with multi-user setups as part of Microsoft Family users, took less than an hour. The 4K Dolby Vision compatible screen looks awesome, and along with the Dolby Access app, it sounds awesome with Netflix, Disney+, etc. The Black version also comes with the electronic pen, which really comes in handy when desiring more control, e.g. drawing. My older son is also using it to learn Python, and the younger one using it to learn HTML (with Python a later-down-the-line choice) and Minecraft. Slight overkill? Maybe, but for 400 USD off for each laptop, they were a steal, and will be useful for several years to come.

      Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear you have had issues with your laptop. Here are some steps you may take to troubleshoot the overheating concern,

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

      I hope this help!

I bought this to replace a laptop running Windows 8 for my daughter. Her increased online college work required a faster, better suited device. It has performed well for her so far. She likes being able to fold the screen back and use it as a tablet. That feature will be useful since she is an art student. I took off one star because it gets really hot. I'm not sure if that's normal for a solid state drive, but it does bother my daughter.

Finding laptops became a little dififcult at the start of "stay-home". I preferred the weight and dimensions of a 13.3" but these were disappearing from everyone's stock quickly. I almost bumped up to a larger laptop just to have one in hand soon but then this Dell popped up on BestBuy.com. With the great combination of processor, memory, storage space, and graphics for an outstanding price, I could not resist. (Just to review for the geeks, nerds, and techies; that is i7, 16GB, 512GB, 4K at an excellent price point.) I've had it less than a month so I haven't fully exercised the machinery but am not expecting any issues. The screen resloution is great. Backlit keyboard and strike are spot on for my use. Trackpad is incredibly sensitive so I adjusted the settings to offset my sloppy finger work. Since I was unable to test-drive options, I went with the Dell for reliability and because I am more familiar with their products from the office.

I read all the reviews and decided to take a chance on the fan issues (widely reported). I am happy to report that I've had this computer for about 5 months now and it's still going strong. The fan was an issue in the beginning, but a quick bios update took care of it. Occasionally the fan will turn on when it's plugged in charging, but it doesn't last long. The casing of this computer is very sturdy and it has a good medium weight (which I like). My only real gripe is that I wish the screen came in a less reflective finish. I guess I'll order a matte finish screen protector to cut down on the glare and finger prints. This computer is able to crank several processes at once and in any of the screen configurations. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good 3-in-1.
