      LPBM,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear about the temperatures that your computer is experiencing.

Here are some tips to help control your computer's temperature:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

Do not buy this. It's getting returned. I bought this computer not only because it was on sale, but because of how good it looked and the amazing specs that it had. However it only meet the beauty factor of it. The problem is that this computer got extremely hot from the moment I took it out of the box to the initial setup. I took a call to Dell to somewhat get this fix. They downloaded the thermal driver and put the computer on colling. Al that means is that the fan is always running to keep the system cool. And that did not fix the issue. It still gets hot and the battery does not last. Also the battery meter keeps fluctuating, so you never know how much battery is left.

This is my second inspiron 7000 series 2 in 1, and is absolutely stellar. I use this one for my art projects and other media. It has a slightly lower battery life than my 1080p model with otherwise the same specs. I haven't bought a dell since the 90s, but they've won me over again with quality and features compared to other 2 in 1 ultrabooks at the same price. Unless you need the absolute thinnest MS surface, these are substantially better in the price to specs ratio.

This laptop has major issues like Heat-up and poor battery time. Initially I thought battery time is the only issue so I contacted Dell Support. Thanks to Dell Support for sending the technician at my home to change the battery but the new battery had the same issue, it didn't increase the battery timings. When I started using this laptop on a regular basis I realized that it gets extremely hot and shuts down. I wish I could return this laptop but it has passed the 15 days time period to return. I regret my decision to purchase this laptop.

It’s an ok product so far. I had the laptop for less than a month and started having problems with the fan. It would not activate causing the computer to overheat. Thank God I bought the extended coverage because now I have to take it in to try and get it fixed or replaced. Aside from that the product looks great and hopefully they fix it so that I can use it to the fullest.

      Rick,

We're sorry to hear about the fan issues that you are having with your new laptop. If you haven't tried to update the BIOS yet you may want to try that and see if it will help with the fan noise and overheating:

An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

Excellent laptop for good price compared to XPS. The people complaining about laptop being hot, need to update BIOS to August 2020. It is true that once you turn it on, it gets very hot that you cannot touch it....but once you update files and windows. It will be ok and will not run hot. Overall good laptop. I would buy Bestbuy extended warranty just to be safe.
