Great choice as a mid priced, capable computer

Unboxing, the laptop shows an excellent quality and fit. The matte finish does not attract fingerprints. The build appears to be mostly plastic but felt solid, and resists flexing. Nor did I see any real flex in the keyboard while typing. Opening and closing, the hinges were firm, and held position. It does seem to be a heavier build, so would expect it to be very sturdy. Being a two-in-one laptop, it can be used in traditional laptop mode, tent, or – although huge - tablet mode.
Around the sides are a reasonable number of ports. One HDMI, two USB-A 3.2, two USB-C 3.2, a SD card slot, and a 3.5 headphone jack. The drawback of the SD slot is that the card does not insert all the way and protrudes, so care is needed not to damage the card or the port.
A few specs about the computer. A 512Gb SSD, 16Gb DDR5 RAM @ 5600Mhz, and AMD Ryzen-5 six core 12 thread processor with a 4.9Ghz burst. The touch screen is 1920 X 1200 @ 60Hz, and 300 nits. The fingerprint reader is integrated in the power button. Full specs are on line.
The keyboard is very comfortable to type on, and keys are back lit. However, the keys being a gray color, the back lighting doesn't stand out as it would on darker keys. The touch pad feels smooth, and worked perfectly.
To me, the screen looked great. The specs are 300 nits and color gamut of 45% . But, I found the screen was reasonably colorful and bright. I set brightness to only 70%. And the 60Hz is very adequate for movies, videos, every day tasks, etc. The touch function of the screen was responsive and smooth.
The sound is very full for laptop speakers. Loud enough, and had a fairly deep sound – not as tinny sounding as many laptops.
Battery looks like it will last nearly 8 hours or more with just general daily use.
I did all the usual updates, downloads, uninstalling unnecessary apps, and limit start up to minimum apps, and this machine really zips along. Boot up time was very short – about 15 seconds. I am impressed with how quickly it loads pages, does the usual everyday tasks. It is even capable of running games with lower hardware requirements and lower settings.
Although not for heavy games, this laptop is a great choice for browsing, streaming, even light games. At this price point, it will be difficult to beat.

I’ve recently picked up the Dell Inspiron 14" 2-in-1 FHD+ Touchscreen Laptop – which is a compelling balance between performance, portability, and versatility. With its AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a convertible touchscreen form factor, it’s designed for users who demand flexibility without compromising speed.
PERFORMANCE BENCHMARKS (using Passmark Performance Test)
• Overall Rating: 6499 - Solid mid-tier performance for general productivity, multitasking, and light creative work
• CPU Mark: 21,974 - Excellent multi-core performance — ideal for demanding workloads like compilation, virtualization, and media encoding
• Disk Mark: 33,823 - Outstanding SSD throughput — ensures near-instant boot times, app launches, and file transfers
Takeaway: These scores place the Inspiron well above typical ultrabooks in its class. The CPU Mark of 21,974 by the AMD Ryzen 5 processor delivers strong multi-threaded performance. The Disk Mark of 33,823 indicates a high-speed NVMe SSD, likely PCIe Gen 4, which is exceptional for a consumer-grade 2-in-1.
HARDWARE
• Display: 14" FHD+ (1920x1200) touchscreen with 16:10 aspect ratio — great for vertical screen real estate and stylus use. Graphics and images look awesome and the small bezel is attractive as well.
• Form Factor: 2-in-1 convertible hinge with tablet mode — ideal for note-taking, sketching, or media consumption.
• Build Quality: Aluminum top cover and sturdy hinge mechanism — premium feel without excessive weight.
• Ports: USB-C, HDMI, USB-A, microSD — versatile enough for most workflows.
• The fingerprint reader provides added convenience
• Keyboard backlighting for me is a must and this device has several brightness levels.
MEMORY AND STORAGE
• RAM: 16GB DDR4 — ample for multitasking, browser-heavy workflows, and light creative tasks.
• Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD (based on Disk Mark) — blazing fast and generous for most users.
BATTERY AND HEAT DISSIPATION
• Battery Life: ~8–10 hours under mixed use — Ryzen efficiency shines here.
• Thermals: Well-managed under load, thanks to Dell’s adaptive thermal tuning and efficient chassis airflow.
• I’m thankful that it uses a USB-C charger (much more standard now) than those older round power plugs that always became loose!
IDEAL USE CASES
• Professionals needing a portable workstation with snappy performance
• Students or educators who benefit from tablet mode and stylus input
• Light content creators (photo editing, light video work)
• Power users who multitask across browsers, Office, and communication tools
SUMMARY
The Dell Inspiron 14" 2-in-1 with Ryzen 5 and 16GB RAM is a performance machine. With a PassMark CPU score rivaling some H-series chips and a Disk Mark that outpaces many premium laptops, it’s a productivity powerhouse in a flexible chassis. While it’s not a gaming rig or a workstation-class machine, it punches well above its weight for its price and form factor.

Talking to you as someone who's seen (and suffered through) the chonky plastic Inspirons of yesteryear, I have to say: this Dell Inspiron is as if Dell hired a bunch of fruit company designers on the sly. No joke—it's got an aluminum unibody case that feels super premium and rigid. That classic 'budget flex' is gone, replaced by something honestly nice to carry.
Performance-wise, the AMD Ryzen 5 8640HS and the 16GB of memory absolutely carry their weight. I've thrown a bunch of tabs, streaming, and work apps at it, and it never felt sluggish. The touchscreen is crisp, vibrant, and super responsive. For Zoom calls, notes, or even a little quick editing, it's genuinely a pleasure.
Battery life is solid for a convertible—enough to get through a workday with lighter use. The keyboard and trackpad hold up well, with no sponginess. Ports are all modern USB-Cs and full-size, so I don't need a backpack full of dongles.
Only real quibbles: the speakers are good but not amazing, and I always prefer haptic trackpads. I think this trackpad is just serviceable, not fantastic. But honestly, at this price and with this build? Dell has come a long way. I could see myself bringing this Ice Blue machine to a meeting without any embarrassment. If you’re looking for an affordable, premium-feeling 2-in-1 that doesn’t scream "IT issued me this in 2015," this Inspiron is a shockingly good pick. I'm so impressed and this laptop is a RECOMMEND.

The Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 laptop is a very nice model. Small, sleek, easily portable. Stunning graphics (I tried to show that in a couple of the photos attached.)
Set up was a breeze. I think it may have been the quickest and easiest transfer to date.
I downsized from the previous laptop that I was using, so it took me a bit to get used to the keyboard. I also went from a keyboard with a numeric pad. This keyboard doesn't have one. Once I adjusted, typing was comfortable. The keyboard has matte, Chiclet-style keys. If I were typing papers on it, though, I don’t know if it would be comfortable for me long term. I do feel a difference in my posture typing on a smaller keyboard. The keys are backlit, which I like.
The touch screen is adequately responsive. It’s a little heavy for me to use as a tablet comfortably. The hinge is a bit stiff at first. It’s nice to have that feature, especially if you are using it for school and rather take notes with a pen (not included) vs. typing.
I use it primarily for browsing and to watch videos. It’s about the perfect size for that. I also see this as being a great computer for students. It’s easy to put in a backpack or messenger bag. It has some weight to it, but it will not weigh someone more than a regular textbook would.
I do wish that there was a USB-C port on both sides of the unit. I prefer the flexibility of plugging in the power on either side, depending on where you are sitting. I suppose you could get an USB-C to USB-A adapter, as there is one USB-A port on the user’s right side, but I don’t know if that would affect performance.
All in all, I think this would be a great gift for students of any age or level, or for anyone who wants a portable computer for browsing, watching movies, or for writing.

What you would expect from a Dell work laptop

My overall impression of this Dell Inspiron 14" 2-in-1 laptop with the AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD is that this is a very competent machine.
This Dell laptop feels very much like the Dell laptops my employers have issued to me for work over the past many years - dependable, practical, and built more for getting things done than for impressing anyone. To me, that’s both the benefit and drawback of this machine.
This Inspiron 14 2-in-1 supposedly sits in Dell’s budget-to-midrange line, but it doesn’t feel cheap. The aluminum body feels solid, and I did not hesitate to flex the 360-degree hinge.
The 2-in-1 feature means it can lay on a desk as a laptop or stand up like a tablet. Depending on how you want to use it. Both modes work well.
I own another 2-in-1, and, in comparison, I found this Dell much heavier, almost 4 pounds according to my scale, twice that of my much lighter HP laptop. I noticed the difference when carrying it in my backpack. Like my work Dell machines, it is still a “portable,” just not an “ultraportable.”
Part of the reason for all that weight is the use of many ports not available on those lighter machines which have gone to just a couple of USB-C ports. This Dell features two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a headphone jack, and a microSD card slot. That’s more than enough for my needs and it’s nice to know I have some of those options, should I require them.
However, for all that weight, the display and audio are both lacking, just like in my work machines. I’ll call them good enough for a work meeting, but nothing special. You will want some external output device or headphones for better sound quality when listening to music or video.
As for the display, the brightness is OK for use indoors in your home office or work office, but you are not going to enjoy using it outdoors.
It does what you expect a corporate laptop to do: email, web surfing, productivity apps such as Excel, video meetings.
I appreciate the16GB of RAM because I am one who keeps many windows and applications open.
As for the 512GB SSD, I tend to rely more on external and cloud storage, so that is plenty for me.
The battery life is also just OK. I would not travel without the charger.
I am not a gamer, so I cannot comment on how it would perform for such use.
In conclusion, if you want a 2-in-1 with enough power and features to support work-from-home functions, and you are familiar with the Dell family of corporate computers, then this laptop should work for you, especially if you like all the ports.

The first thing I noticed about this laptop was that it felt heavy for its size, and for 2-in-1's in general. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, but something worth mentioning. The impression I get from its weight is it feels slightly more durable than maybe some other laptops of this class. It doesn't feel like it's going to suffer much from being bumped around. The other thing that gives me that impression is when I opened it up, it looks like there is a metal support holding the USB-C ports in place. Maybe this is for heat dissipation, but since that is also the power port, it's likely to see the most abuse in being tugged and yanked.
As far as the rest of the laptop experience, I'd call is pretty average all around. I've used laptops that are better in all aspects, but I've used laptops that are worse, but overall perfectly satisfactory.
The keyboard is decent and is backlit, though I feel the backlight is a little dim. The power button on the top right of the keyboard doubles as a fingerprint reader for login. It's a little slow to read my finger, but otherwise works fine.
The display is average. For some reason I'm noticing a screen-door like effect on smaller text and other details, so it's not the sharpest display. The colors also feel a little washed out. But it gets bright enough and is otherwise a decent resolution so most of the time it looks fine.
Performance is good, nothing to complain about. It does get a bit warm under more demanding tasks, but cools off quickly enough. Dell has given this enough cooling that while it got warm, it never was hot.
Inside, helpfully it has 2 RAM slots with removable RAM, so you could upgrade this if wanted. 32gb of RAM would probably be a little overkill for this laptop, but it's nice having it as an option. The SSD (hard drive) is also upgradable. It has a 2230 sized drive, but it can fit a 2280 drive. Although, it only has the one slot, so some expertise would be needed to get the laptop setup with a new drive.
My only real complaint with this laptop is the webcam cover. It slides too easily, and there is no clear visual indicator of if the camera is blocked or not. So, it's nice the cover is there, but it's way too easy to accidentally cover/uncover the camera and not realize it.
Overall, I'm happy with this laptop. Nice sturdy build, and durable feeling hinge. Plenty of functional ports, including full-size HDMI and SD Card, but it doesn't especially excel or stand out in any area.

Solid mid-range touchscreen laptop

The Dell Inspiron 14” 2-in-1 touchscreen laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 offers an impressive balance between versatility and usability. Its aluminum finish and slim design make it feel sturdy yet portable, though it is on the heavier side for its size. The 14-inch Full HD+ 1920x1200 touchscreen delivers crisp visuals and responsive touch performance; however, it isn’t the absolute sharpest display either. I’d rate it slightly above average. With 16GB of RAM and a fast 512GB SSD, this system handles multitasking, light creative work, and streaming without lag. The Ryzen 5 processor provides solid performance for productivity running MS Office Suite, which is what I’d assume people buying this device would be using the most in terms of apps. Battery life averages around 7-8 hours under moderate use. The keyboard feels comfortable with decent travel, though the touchpad could be a bit more precise. The built-in webcam and dual speakers deliver respectable quality for video calls and entertainment. Overall, the Inspiron 14” 2‑in‑1 is a reliable, mid-range laptop that brings good performance and value for students, professionals, and casual users.

I prefer laptops with touchscreens and that convert to "tablet" mode. I often play games and I like to flip the keyboard back and use the touchscreen to play the game. I find it fast and easier to play that way than with the keyboard and mousepad.
I took this for it's trial run on a training day for work. I was able to seamlessly access all of my accounts from Google passwords were carried over. When I use this next to my "other" laptop (HP), this model is much faster and the visuals are incredibly clear!
The size is compact and great for travel and work. It fits nicely into my carrying case and is not terribly heavy for a convertable laptop.
I have also found that the battery lasts all day. Again, another important feature for travel, work or school.
This is probably one of my favorite laptops (and I have a few!). Main loves- the speed, convertable nature, touchscreen. I also like the feel of the keyboard. There is a little "give" to the keys to help make typing easier.
The Ice Blue is a really nice color as well!

I replaced my expensive yoga Lenovo with this Dell offering everything the Lenovo had plus at half the price. This model was on sale and it responds well with the many attributes that a Dell has to offer.

Was not first choice, but desired laptop on hold was sold prior to getting to store. On site sales SME, recommended this as a close secondary at desired price point and it has worked well. A nice option from Best Buy in addition to sales rebates would be to include the initial setup. Monitor a little small as well as keyboard, but purchased logitech mouse / keyboard combo and intend to purchase additional monitor

The Dell Inspiron 14 7445 2 1 is a great contender in the 2-in-1 market. For me, it hits that sweet spot where the price-to-performance ratio peaks - it's got significantly more horsepower than entry-level portable computers, yet the price premium isn't much higher than buying the entry-level models.
In the box, you get the laptop itself and the power adapter.
This is a 2-in-1 device, so you can use it in the traditional laptop form factor, or flip the touchscreen display around and use it like a tablet. I was impressed with the quality of construction - everything seems solid, and on a device like this, hinges will take a lot of use, and they are absolutely solid. I do not have any doubt that this device will last many open/close/extend-to-tablet cycles without issue. The outer plastic is a standard type you see on laptops these days, but it doesn't flex or give at all. The device feels sturdy - it has heft, but it's not heavy. All of these traits contribute to the quality feel aspect of this device. The color is described as "Ice Blue," but if you look at it lying on a table, you'd probably say it's a light gray.
The 14-inch touchscreen is bright and boasts a 1920x1200 resolution, so slightly over FHD. It is a touchscreen that works fine, but I don't use it all that often unless the device is in tablet mode. The screen itself is very glossy or reflective, and it collects fingerprints quite easily. The device's keyboard is tactile and feels natural in my larger hands. The power button features an integrated fingerprint sensor, and once set up, it makes logging into the device a breeze. Connectivity is adequate, including two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a full-size SD card reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The machine features an AMD Ryzen 5 8640HS CPU, a solid mid-range processor capable of handling everyday tasks like web browsing, streaming movies, light to moderate gaming, and Office applications with ease. The included 16GB of RAM is a long-term benefit, allowing you to run multiple applications simultaneously and support newer, more RAM-intensive programs. With 512GB of SSD storage, most users will find it sufficient for installing a variety of mainstream apps, some games, and storing photos and movies. Graphics performance was reliable; though I don't push it hard—I enjoy playing Minecraft, and my son was able to play Roblox without any issues. Based on the specifications, you could likely run some of the latest popular games at lower FPS.
Battery life is surprisingly good if you keep the screen brightness down and you're not doing taxing things like gaming, watching movies. I didn't run it in a marathon session, but for general web browsing, I only had to charge it every couple of days.
There's not much here not to like. More USB-C ports would have been a nice addition, as one of the ports is occupied by the wall charger when using the device on the charger. It also displays a message at boot-up if I'm using a non-Dell-branded charger, which I found a bit odd, since we all have tons of USB-C charging options nowadays.
The bottom line here is that this is a well-built, capable machine that delivers in the value to specifications department. It's an ideal choice for students, professionals, or really anyone wanting a well-rounded laptop that should last for years.
