Works fine but I sometimes use this laptop all day and the cooling fan runs constantly like it's overheating. I didn't experience this issue with my HP. The vent on Dell is on the bottom of the laptop whereas the HP vent is on the side which makes more sense if the laptop is on a desk while working. There's not a lot of space for the vent and the laptop gets hot fast. If you actually use this computer on your lap, maybe the vent is in the right place (bottom middle), but this is probably not the best machine for all-day remote work on a desk or table. Consider this when making your purchase.

      WorkinFool,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear about the fan noise and the overheating that you're experiencing. We'd recommend that you try to update the BIOS on your computer if you'd like to see if this helps minimize the fan troubles that you're having:

An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

Note: I usually don't post pictures, but I was pretty sure the touch pad was a defect. Do not argue with your customer > Bestbuy and Dell !!! Bought this laptop with price match against Walmart. Went to pick up the laptop. Noticed there's a gap between the touch pad. Brought it back to Bestbuy, they wouldn't do anything about it because I did not buy insurance from them. Asked me to contact Dell which I did. Went back and forth between Bestbuy and Dell. Finally Dell decided to take a look at the laptop. Replaced the touch pad. I had purchased $2,000 gaming laptop when I was a heavy gamer; no issues, This laptop is good for work and lightweight gaming. Pros *Huge screen 17.3" is about the largest screen you can get for a laptop. *16 GB RAM (most laptop has only 8 GB). *SSD and HDD (1st time having both). *Fast boot up because of SSD (~10 secs). * 1 TB memory. *Base speed is 1.5 GHz. *Dell replaced the touch pad. *Integrated graphics card. *Decent speaker. Cons *defected touch pad (bad impression for first time Dell owner). *Program that consume high power usage will cause the fan to continuously running until you terminate the process/program. *Material feel cheap; especially the keyboard. *Does not have a dedicated graphics card.

    Great computer for Distance Teaching

My wife is a school teacher, and we got this computer as her main tool of distance learning. For that purpose, it's fantastic. It's fast and it has the bandwidth to broadcast out learning videos to 30 + students during zoom lessons. The larger screen is helpful, too. We were pleasantly surprised that it came with a DVD-ROM drive. Having two hard drives is a little awkward, and the standard hard drive comes with a noisy fan. It may have been better to shell out more money for a 1 TB solid state drive. Don't know how this does with high end games. It's heavy, but it sits on a desk. We wouldn't want to lug it around in a backpack.

Loses internet and power connection easily

I've owned this computer for 2 years now. It's been working fine. I've been using it for teaching zoom classes online and having meetings. The only thing I don't like is the screen and color is very dull. It's difficult to tell the color of items I'm buying oniine. I mostly use my ethernet connection to avoid losing signal. Lately, it's been dropping internet connection when it goes to sleep. It is also slow at picking the internet up, once I connect the ethernet cord if I change rooms. I had to buy another power charger because the connection was unstable with the original. I would have it plugged in, but, it would lose power anyway and shut down. I can only get about 50 minutes zoom call without plugging in my charger. I'll most likely get another one, but these are issues I'll be checking for in my next laptop.

I am not sure exactly what was wrong with this laptop. I tried it for less than a week to get Outlook to work. I spent several hours with technical support for my ISP, MS, and Dell. I returned it to Best Buy and they accepted the return, and I purchased a very similar laptop, except it had a 2TB Hard Drive. I feel confident that the laptop that I returned, if it had not had problems, would have been a fine laptop. Based on my experience with this laptop, I am not sure that I would recommend it to a friend.

This Dell 17-inch, Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM with 256 Solid State Drive is a reliable laptop for statistical software. When performing computations and mathematical modeling, the fast co-processor and RAM produce results quickly. The screen size and resolution allow for ease of reading and interpretation of the results. This purchase has been an invaluable asset while working at home during the COVID-19 outbreak.

This computer is fast with Intel i7 processor (10th generation). It combines SSD with traditional hard drive. One of the few to give a CD/DVD port. It’s large screen is easy to read. I used the Geek squad to install. They did it in such a way that it takes little thought to use. It was worth the expense. This is a great computer for home or office use.

The device is pretty awesome, but the battery does die quickly. You can adjust the power supply settings and change what programs run at start up and in the background to accommodate your power needs, though. That may help some, but it’s a powerful device. Unfortunately, on occasion, windows close or the device randomly resets itself which I didn’t expect with a powerful device like this. I’m thrilled I found a laptop with a CD/DVD drive, but it’s flimsy. It serves my needs, I only wish the keyboard was backlit.

My wife is starting back to school for her second masters in teaching and I wanted to make sure she had a good computer that could keep up. She won't travel with it much so having the bigger screen and extra weight is not a problem. I have a second screen hooked up for her in her office and I feel confident this has all the features she will need to do well

I recently purchased the Dell Inspiron 17 laptop from Best Buy and have been very happy with the performance of the unit. While this unit is larger than most people may want for travel most of my work is done between one of two desks and since I'm older this larger screen is great for me. I was also very impressed with the sales gal that took me though the instore process. Kat ( Katheryn) did a great job working with me to find a unit they had in stock during the major sales of laptops for the school and college kids in September. Thanks!

I am completely satisfied with the size and performance of this Dell 17 inch laptop. I had a similar model with one of my former employers, that I was totally blown away by the form, fit and function. So when I saw this one on Best Buy, it was a no brainer. I don't have any problems with this unit. I use it for personal project, surfing the web, watching YouTube videos and modifying drone video footage. This thing has exceeded my needs and expectations.

This is a great laptop to work on for business, lots of memory, very speedy - plus it seems nice and sturdy for my constant moving it around. The only complaint I have is that there is no marking lines to indicate what part of the mouse pad you are clicking (right click a lot when I meant to left click). Relatively new to using it, but still very much enjoying it!

      Jerry,

Thanks for your review and we're sorry to hear about the issues that you've had with your laptop so far. Here are some tips to help with your connectivity concerns:

      1. Download and install the latest Wireless Card driver. (https://dell.to/2th3Tpe) After updating the driver, re-establish the connection with the Wireless Access Point and check the wireless performance.
      2. If the issue persists, proceed to step 3.
      3. Power-cycle the local network. Shut down the Dell system, the Wireless Access Point/Router and the Modem. Wait a minimum of 60 seconds before powering up the components in the following order:
      4. Power ON the Modem, and wait for it to boot fully.
      5. Power ON the Wireless Access Point/Router, and wait for it to boot fully.
      6. Power ON the Dell system.
      7. Open Network and Sharing Center
      8. In the left side navigation pane, click on Change Adapter Settings
      9. Right click on the wireless connection icon and select Properties followed by the Configure button
      10. Under Wireless Options, select the Wireless N mode
      11. For Windows 8 or later systems click the Advanced tab and look for 802.11n Mode on the right you will be given the option to Enable or Disable. If the mode is not visible you may need to update your drivers and firmware.
      12. From the drop-down menu, choose Disable followed by Ok
      13. This should restore the wireless download and upload speed. Internet speed can be tested at http://speedtest.net. If you are still having noise coming out of your computer, we'd recommend updating the BIOS on your computer: Update the BIOS: An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.
