Versatile and Stylish Grill/Griddle

Design: This contact/grill is fancy looking and meant to impress. It's not an eyesore appliance in the kitchen (should you choose to leave it out on the counter and have the room for it to be displayed). It's not too heavy, yet it seems very sturdy.
What you get: The contact/grill, 2 cups for excess grease, a scraper for the grill (easy clean up so it probably won’t get used much, if at all), directions on use. You get 2 grill plates and 2 griddle plates.
Directions: It comes with directions, but it is easy enough to figure out. There is a red light to let you know that the appliance is on and a green light to let you know when it is ready. There are three knobs clearly marked on the front of the appliance, the middle button for off/mode selection (leave in middle for off and turn left for the open grill/griddle and to the right for contact grill panini press). The other 2 dials are for temperatures, left dial for Warm, Low, Med, High and Sear for open grill/griddle and the other dial for actual temperatures ranging from 175F – 450F. As I stated, it is clearly displayed and above each dial. This appliance has a little lever on the right hand side of the handle. Just push the lever and it will lay down flat for two surfaces to cook on. The top plate (cover) adjusts for depth of your food just by setting it on top of other.
OF NOTE: I couldn’t find directions on how to adjust the top half so that it will lay flat with the bottom half to cook evenly. There was a piece of plastic attached to the handle that needed to come off and then it adjusted with no problem.
Size of cooking area: I have grilled 4 good sized hamburgers with the top on with room to spare for a couple of hot dogs you could squeeze in. You can grill two extra large size sandwiches with room to spare. There is room for probably 4 medium size chicken breasts or 2 large.. When appliance is opened, both sides are available for cooking, so you could conceivably cook veggies on one and meat on the other or twice as much meat. Get creative.
The grill/griddle plates: It comes with a set of sturdy ceramic plates for grilling and another set to use as a flat griddle for pancakes, etc. and they are very easy to change out. You just push a button on the right side and lift them up and at an angle. It's great that they come off so easily for cleaning.
Easy clean up: This comes with two drip cups that you use when grilling to catch any grease leaking out. This worked great when I made bacon. If you are cooking with the grill open and using both sides you need to put a cup on both sides. There is one little outlet built into all the plates on one of the corners where you would set the drip cups. I loved that the bacon was less greasy than it normally is in a fry pan. On my first try with the grill I cooked 4 quarter pound hamburgers and very easy clean up on my second try I made a grilled Reuben sandwich and some cheese melted onto the grill plate and it wiped right off for quick clean up.
Overall: I really love this griddle/grill. It's very versatile, easy to clean, and works great. This is a wonderful choice if you are looking for an indoor type grill like this. Great in the winter when you don’t feel like facing the cold outside to grill your food and it cooks much better than any frying pan. I will use this mostly in the winter months, but also on lazy days when I just don’t feel like starting up the grill outside. I highly recommend this. I posted pictures of it opened and closed.

Sandwich Magic

I like this thing. It reliably makes a great sandwich. I really didn't know how easy it was to make great hot sandwiches at home.
Pros
- Great results. Sandwiches come out golden brown with perfect lines.
- Easy to clean with removable non-stick plates that just wipe clean. You can put them in the dishwasher, but I haven't seen a need to.
- Separate heat settings for top and bottom plate.
- Big enough to makes more than one Sandwich at once.
Neutral
- Use a dedicated outlet. It tripped the GFCI in my kitchen when we turned on the microwave on the same circuit.
- Make sure the top plate is not locked in open grill mode before pressing a sandwich or it will be smashed flat.
Cons
- Instructions are thin and not that helpful.
- No recommended cooking times or settings.
- Bottom grill dial has low to high (sear) heating settings, top press dial has temperatures 175-450F. It is not clear how they relate, but I just set them both to max for golden brown sandwiches.

Great alternative to conventional BBQ

DeLonghi has always been my go-to brand in terms of small home appliances. We own quite a few appliances from them and are pretty much satisfied with them all. This product is no different. We live in the apartment, hence have a very limited space and absolutely no backyard where we can put a conventional BBQ grill. I do own a small flat top grill which I use quite often but the problem with that is it's outdoor. So with winters coming up, it's hard to use outside in the balcony. This DeLonghi grill has absolutely saved my life. I can use it indoor without any need of propane gas cylinder. It being an electric grill, has given us a lot of advantage. I was reluctant to get this initially but the wife insisted, so we got this and honestly, I am so happy that we did.
It comes with two flat griddle plates and two grill plates (with grooves). You just push a button on the side and lift them out up and at an angle. It's great that they come off so easily for cleaning. A plastic cleaning tool is also provided with it and is very useful. Both plates are non-stick which is a huge plus because it allows you to use less oil. You can even use non-stick spray. I recently started my health journey and have been eating mostly chicken and fish. So this griddle has helped a lot. Chicken comes out well done and juicy. With the outdoor grill, I used to cook chicken at once for at least 3-4 days just because I didn't want to clean it everyday but with this DeLonghi, I cook everyday. It's so much easy to clean.
There are three knobs. The middle knob lets you choose between open grill or the closed position. Then one dial is for controlling the panini function and the other dial is if you are using the grill plate. When you turn it on, you have to wait for few minutes for it to warm up, and then the green light will come on signaling that it's time to cook. It goes up to 450F/230C.
It also comes with a couple of drip cups that you can use when grilling something greasy. I marinate my chicken with a lot of marinade, specially the tandoori marinade which tends to ooze out a lot while grilling. So these drip cups help in collecting all that waste along with the grease if any. I love that the plates are removable and washable. This is great, so much better than cleaning my other grill. The plate on that grill is so big and our sinks are very small in comparison, so it becomes very hard to wash it but the DeLonghi plates are so small, making cleaning easy. It's great for making paninis as well which my wife likes quite a bit as she is a panini fanatic. According to her, it's the best so far. Both top and bottom sides heat evenly which is a problem with some other grills where one side heats slower than the other. This helps cook food evenly in this DeLonghi grill. We haven't tried making pancakes on this yet but I'm sure they will come out just as perfect. We might give them a try next time.
I must mention here that the grill is lightweight and so are the plates, which are super light. My other grill's plate is heavy duty which makes it hard to clean. The size is perfect for our family (2 adults + 1 kid) and we can cook our one meal at the same time. For a bigger family, size might be an issue.
The only drawback that I found is that the temperature setting are very hard to read, especially if you are using it in not well lit area. The fonts are marked with kind of light beige color which makes it very difficult to read. Overall, I am very much satisfied with this product and will definitely recommend it.

Best as a griddle

The DeLonghi grill is a 5 in 1 that looks great in the kitchen but is it as good as advertised?
The grill looks great but there is more to it than looks. It is sturdy and well built. It doesn't weigh much There are three dials and are marked clearly.
It comes with two sets of plates for either grilling or for use as a griddle. I tried to use it closed to grill chicken and it was beginning to leak from the rear despite having the grill closed with the drip cups properly put in place.
Be sure to use a little bit of oil or butter to keep your meat from sticking to the grill surface. I find that grilling is best done open than closed in my experience. The griddle is good to use and the surface area is sufficient enough for making breakfast. Pancakes and bacon are great to make.
I am just not a fan of the mess that is made from splashing everywhere. The removable plates are a plus. it makes it easier to clean up than say the foreman grill. The non stick plates seem solid but time will tell how they hold up.
Be sure that your kitchen is well ventilated and that you are not using a lot of devices that uses a lot of electricity. I had to reset the power in my apartment as a result.
Overall this grill/griddle is practical and has a lot to offer. It does a lot right but I am not sure why it is a 5 in 1. It can be used as a grill press or a griddle.
In short it is great despite the few issues I found with it it is still a solid product. Well designed, can make breakfast lunch or dinner. It isn't difficult to clean.

Little grill tasting meals

I like the taste of grilled food so finding a small appliance that gives me that luxury was ideal.
What’s included in the box:
5 in 1 grill, drip cups, cleaning tool, griddle, grill plates and manual.
After I cleaned the plates and read the manual I was ready to start using my DeLonghi mini grill.
Pros:
* The griddle and grill plates are easily removed to make this a quick clean up after each cooking.
* My favorite is having the Livenza open allowing me to cook more at once. Eggs on one side bacon on the other or 2 types of meats grilled 2 different ways.
* This is durable and does not feel like it will fall apart.
Cons:
* Nothing bothered me using it.
Final thoughts:
In my opinion I think DeLonghi should include basic recipes to help new customers learn the cook times and temperatures. I was learning from trial and error but I would of like to have a few go to recipes that I can feel comfortable making without guessing.
I like using an outdoor grill and sometimes this can be easier for a quick meal. You can grill a few burgers and hotdogs in few minutes without going outside anytime of the year. The knobs add the touch of an outdoor grill.
This Livenza 5 in 1 grill will be used for 2 and small gatherings in my household. I compared this to some other similar indoor grills and I think I get more with the DeLonghi Livenza for the price.

Looks Great. Cooks Even Better

Our George Foreman Grill broke ages ago and we never replaced it. We never really liked it to be honest. But sometimes, having the ability to press a sandwich comes in really handy, so we had the opportunity to get this DeLonghi 5 in 1 Grill. And we've had a great time using it. So far, we've made the best Cuban Sandwich I've ever had. We've grilled hamburgers and even made a complete breakfast using the Griddle Plates. Everything has cooked perfectly.
The design of the grill has a nice professional look that should fit the nicest of kitchens. The Durastone Ceramic coating on the grill and griddle plates makes cleanup simple and I'm thinking the finish will be very long lasting.
In addition to the griddle and grilling plates you get two drip cups (though they call them drip plates for some unknown reason) and a cleaning tool. The cleaning tool doesn't really do much and the drip cups seem more like an afterthought.
One thing I found completely surprising, at least with the unit I received. There were no instructions in the box. There was a page with a parts list and the box it comes in also provides some information. But for a device from a company like DeLonghi to have no instruction manual at all seems odd.
I wound up going to www.delonghi.com and found out I could register the grill there and I was able to print a [sort of] 4 page user guide. Note to DeLonghi: A proper user guide, with maybe some how to suggestions should accompany something like this.
Otherwise, this is a welcome addition to our kitchen and now we can make Cuban Sandwiches at home, far better than any served near us and we live where the Cuban Sandwich was invented!

Make paninis, grill steaks, burgers & pancakes all with the same appliance.
First I want to point out the drip cup. They give two (2) as one may fill up quickly depending on what you are grilling. To me its the #1 great idea over most units I've seen. Check out this video on youtube of the cup in action: https://youtu.be/WoE7__qZbrk
No mistake, you want to use this griddle on its own circuit. Especially in today's kitchen with GFI breakers protecting us from electrocution near sinks.
Why, because you can select either the bottom grill/plate or both the bottom and top. That what makes cooking so simple and fast.
The grill plates can be removed and replaced with flat griddle plates with the touch of a button on the right of each element. GREAT FEATURE, they even embossed the TOP and BOTTOM plates with their orientation so you can quickly and reliably install them in their correct positions.
The center control knob has three (3) selections, BOTTOM-OFF-BOTH.
The Top and bottom heating elements each have their own temperature knobs to the left or right of the OFF knob.
Super simple to adjust.
My first effort was a simple burger dinner for two, made quickly without having to flip the meat like on the grill. What was really great was the sear marks from the grooved ceramic plates. They clean up easily, like teflon.
I look forward to paninis and grilled cheese sandwiches with the grandkids (and me).

Pros:
- Easy to use
- Easy to clean
- The food you cook on it turns out good
- Cooks food evenly
- Cooks food pretty quickly
- Can grill whenever you want
- One of the better quality grills for the price
Cons:
- The top does not free hang, I thought it did because of one picture. But you can't adjust the top to broil the food, like melting cheese on the
- The grease does not drain as well as I hoped.
- It doesn't heat super fast, but it does the job
- Doesn't make great grills marks, but the food still tastes good
- Edges on the plates are low if you are using the flat top the food has a tendency to fall off.
- They don't recommend using it flat and then use it closed to create grill marks.

Solid Performing Grill/Griddle Combo

I have made it a point to cook with the DeLonghi Livenza for the last 3 nights, and I am pretty happy with it. It has helped churn out some pretty tasty meals so far. Overall I think it is a really well designed, and solid performing indoor grill.
This grill looks really nice. It has a lot of brushed stainless and has really classy look. I expected this much from DeLonghi based on their catalog of other products. The grill is solidly put together. The top grill section can "break away," and pivot to allow larger food items to be pressed evenly with both sides of the grill. The top section also easily folds out with the push of a switch and creates a larger flat surface to cook on. The cooking surfaces release with a push of a button and easily snap back into place. Each grill/griddle section is imprinted with the word Upper or Lower to let you know where it goes. I also found the controls to be easy to follow.
The design of the heating coil in each cook surfaces does a nice job of evenly distributing the heat across the die-cast aluminum grill/griddle plates. The die-cast aluminum has a lot of benefits over the cast iron stovetop grill plates. For one it won't rust, it doesn't require seasoning, and it's easier to clean (dishwasher safe). Since it is aluminum it heats up quickly and evenly, and it cools down quickly when you are all done. The manual says that the grill can take up to 8 minutes to come up to heat - I don't think I had to wait anywhere near that long.
There were 2 places though that I felt the design and construction were below expectations. First, when it comes to storage. The grill doesn't have an incorporated method to store itself on its side/edge. It only wants to be stored sitting flat. This is fine if you have a lot of cabinet storage, but it just takes up a lot of cabinet real estate. I found that you can store it on its edge if you wrap the cord around the grill to clamp it shut, but its not ideal. The other area was the finish of the plastic base (see pictures). This plastic was not properly deburred when it came out of the mold and was left with a lot of excess flash. There was flash all around the entire base on my unit. I took a razor blade to it and removed all of the flash in a couple of minutes. Now it looks just fine, but it was still annoying to deal with. These are the reasons I dropped 1 star.
So far I have cooked burgers, quesadilla panini hybrid (for the kids), pancakes and country ham, and brats. Everything cooked evenly, and pretty quickly - except for the brats. The brats I bought were pretty thick, so it took a while to cook them through. I ended up adding some water to the grill surface to steam them up, and that sped the process along. The finished product was great though, and the grill captured and drained off so much grease. I'm looking forward to making some real panini's this week, and kabobs on it this weekend.
I really like this grill/griddle combo. I can finally ditch my old electric griddle, and leave my cast iron grill plate put away. I think this grill/griddle combo would be great for any kitchen, and with winter coming it will let you keep grilling even as the temps plummet.

I got the DeLonghi - Livenza 5 in 1 Grill and I'm really happy with it. I'm a single dude :( and have to cook for myself so when I want to make something simple and easy the DeLonghi grill is my go-to cooking tool. I've done steaks, grilled cheese sandwiches, tuna melts, warmed up food almost anything on this grill. SUPER easy and quick since it's cooking on both sides . For steaks it only takes 8 mins after it's been warmed up. For sandwiches it doesn't take that long. And for thick sandwiches or steaks you can unlock the top to contour the thickness of the steak or sandwiches.

Great Little Grill for a Well Lit Kitchen

The DeLonghi - Livenza electric grill is the first indoor grill that I’ve ever owned and I have discovered that I’ve been missing out. I’ve always been a big fan of grilling food outdoors, especially steaks, chicken, brats, and hamburgers. There’s no left over grease to deal with and the food just tastes better. But, when it’s wintertime, the outdoor grill does not get much use. With the electric grill, we get to stay indoors, and still have the grilled foods.
This grill heats up quickly and the coated steel cooking plates distribute the heat evenly. The cooking plates are interchangeable can easily be inserted or removed via a side mounted release button. Each plate has corner drip spouts for allowing grease and juices to flow into the supplied catch cups. They are also dishwasher safe which makes for an easy cleanup. The ribbed plates are perfect for steaks, burgers, hotdogs, chicken, brats, or panini sandwiches due to the floating top, which provides for a flat and even pressure on the items being cooked. The flat plates are great for meats, flat grilled sandwiches, vegetables, and even pancakes.
My only gripe with this grill are the plastic control knobs. With the bulk of this device being metal, I would have expected the knobs to be metal, which would have provided a higher quality feel. And the control knobs are poorly marked with a dark paint, making them hard to read even in a well lit kitchen.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the DeLonghi - Livenza grill. It makes a nice addition to our kitchen. I just have to squint a little when adjusting the controls.

Well-performing indoor grill & griddle

If you're looking for a indoor grill (and griddle) good enough for a smaller household, this one may just do the job. As you know, though, with any indoor grilling and griddling there is a good accumulation of smoke, and as such, if you have a chance to operate the DeLonghi - Livenza Grill right under your hood/vent, that would be perfect.
We used this small appliance as a grill, because I wanted to able to grill my steaks during the colder fall and winter months as well, and it's doing that really, really well (see pictures). Using the "Contact Grill" option (turning the key to the right), and selecting 450F/230C, after just about 8 minutes, the steaks were done "medium", and after 10 minutes, they were "medium-well". Totally awesome! - Don't forget to use the supplied drip cup(s) to fetch the "juice". Also used the same setup (grill) for shrimps. Same settings, et voila, after just 5 minutes of grilling, they were delicious and ready for consumption.
The DeLonghi - Livenza Grill is beautifully designed, well-built, and the use of stainless steel makes it look quite nice on countertops. I feel you get a lot of value from this grill as it is competitively priced and really does a great job with respect to grilling and griddling. Wished it came with a recipe booklet, but it doesn't. You basically need to figure out yourself how many minutes of grilling it takes for meat, fish, or vegetables. Of course, the more you use the grill, the more familiar you become with the grill, and as such, know what settings to use. From that perspective, I would give this grill 4.5 stars, rounded up, 5 stars.

I have mostly used this as a press and here are the things that I have observed.
1) Good design, looks pretty sturdy
2) Setup is a bit complicated
3) Once setup, it is pretty easy to use. The dials are self explanatory. I like the fact that it can be set to a specific temperature (Rather than just hi-med-lo).
4) Warms up pretty quickly. In my test it reached 350F in around 4 minutes.
5) Cooks the food evenly
6) Easy to clean as the plates can be detached easily and are dish-washer safe
7) I don't have much counter top space in my kitchen, so it is a little bit bigger than I would have liked but because of the bigger size it also allows to griddle/grill more items at the same time. So, this can be seen both as a positive or negative depending on your personal situation.
8) They are grease cups provided in the box but they don't attach or slide into a specific area. Thus, they kinda stay loose and you might accidentally knock them over.
Overall, I like this grill (I am not sure why is it called 5 in 1 though). It is great for indoor grilling (specially in winters). It makes great grilled sandwiches.

I really thought thos would be perfect for my needs especially with the brand. However, the controls indicators are very basic and of no help when cooking specific foods like beef. The directions are no better. No specific information on cooking items like meat (rare, med rare etc) which mpst other brands have. Took a very long time to cook even hamburgers because when closing the lid to cook both sides it smashed all the juices out. If you do 1 side at a time and flip the food it slides all over. Grease is captured in a little cup, which you're suppose to get 2 and a brush to move it, both those were missing and grease ended up everywhere. Very very messy. Missing parts for how much this cost and brand really has me upset.
