Ready for Update

OK, this machine is 4 years old and has yet to be updated... While it's a decent introduction to DJing, it is far from perfect. 1) Takes forever to upload and analyze tracks to utilize the capabilities of this unit, you'll have to be very patient. 2) Though the interface is usable, it still has a toy like gimmicky appearance and feel 3) Sound effects are OK but can be unpredictable at times. 4) Works with any source that holds music files and transfers files to unit via USB iphone, ipad, lpod, android, thumb drives etc. but again will take hours to upload the files fully to scratch, sync and use effects. This is the biggest complaint that should have been addressed years ago! 5) No other manufacturer has produced an all in one DJ solution for under $500 however, The Stanton Mixstation is a bold, slow attempt to accomplish this. Good try but just not ready for Prime Time!

The core function of this is just crossfading two songs. I was disappointed at the waveform analyzation time, as you would not be able to get a proper BPM label. I returned this because the software is extremely slow, and hard to use. If you want to mix without a computer, that's fine. Just don't expect good performance.

Couldn't ask for more makes setting up a breeze just plug into the mixer and that's it no setting up laptops configuring midi nothing. Copy the song you want to mix onto a thumb drive or usb hard drive plug it in and your off no computer needed.

Great for the Amateur DJ that Wants the Best

I bought this for my son to replace a mix station he had had for a couple of years. This one is SOOOO much better than what he had. He does some amateur DJing for friends' parties and he said this mix station has everything he wants and is set up better than the fairly expensive mix station he had.

Everything I read on this thing made it sound as if it would be compatible with my computer both as a controller and audio interface. It was not.

I have had my SCS for a few months now. I DJ'ed weddings and parties for 7 years and I would have cut off body parts to have had something like this instead of hauling around cases of CD's.
Yes, the hardware is dated, the onboard CPU is painfully slow to analyze song files. This is easily remedied by using the quickgrid software from Stanton to pre-analyze your storage device while it's connected to your computer.
I'm admittedly not a "scratcher" but just wanted to throw some random songs together with beat matching and fading. The effects are few, but adequate. The BPM matching and looping is spectacular.
As long as you have a good, high speed flash drive, moving around in the OS is pretty snappy and quick. If you're having issues with songs taking forever to load, get a faster flash drive.
All in all, I could easily see a mobile DJ using this for parties or, like me, an enthusiast chilling at home and making mixes. Speaking of, the onboard recording option is superb and works well. Just don't record to the same drive your library is on.
Final Note : Make SURE to do the firmware updates from Stanton. They fix things that need fixed.

All-In-One solution for any DJ.

The unit out-of-the-box worked great. Then I installed the version 2.1 update and downloaded QuickGrid from Stanton. It made setting-up and operating the unit much easier and faster. I've been a DJ for quite a long time, I like that all you need now is this unit, speakers and a amp.
A experienced DJ could get the hang of this unit in a matter of minutes. I showed my kids how to operated it and they got the hang of it within an hour. It is real important that you download and use QuickGrid and prepare your USB device before using the unit. It will save you a lot of fustration.
I really like the SYNC feature. The effect are good, but I really enjoyed using the SLICE and LOOP. Scratching on this unit is comparable to using a digital turntable, except that the platter doesn't spin.
All-in-all I am impressed with the overall performance of this unit
