It Does what it's supposed to
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used to have an Escort Redline, but since a majority of my driving is in the city, it was just way too chatty for me, so I sold it. I bought the IX so that it would lock out the false alerts from door openers, etc on my daily travels. I want to point out, I am retired law enforcement and I know how radar and LIDAR works, been certified for a very long time. I still like driving fast though ;) And no, I am not that Radar Roy guy. The magnetic mount is ingenious and makes other mounts obsolete. (why did it take this long for them to think of this???) I have used this both in town, where I keep it on AutoNoX (X band hasn't been used in my area for close to 30 years), and also on thousand mile road trips, and I am impressed with how it works. Now, there are simply times no radar detector will save you, for instance: Patrol unit sets up facing traffic just over a hill, you are the first car to come over said hill, officer takes his unit off of hold, an before you can react to your warning, he has your speed. LIDAR--well, the alert just lets you know you've already been gunned. Now, as far as some reviews saying how in (insert number here) miles, it gave a false alert (insert number here) times when no patrol was in sight. Well, this can happen. it can be detecting a scattered reflection from a unit miles away, even on the open road, even going a different direction, and off course you don't see the patrol car. So, like I said, the unit works well. I am thinking about getting a 360 for my other vehicle just to change it up a bit and decide which would work best in my Camaro...

Not recommended
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If your going to spend this kind of money might as well pay another 100 for the best. Range sucks and it doesn’t let you know what direction the cop is going or coming from

Fourth Escort?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have always bought the basic models 8500 and 9500. Both units continued to work but the speakers died in both making them useless. Tried the Escort Max HD LTD but every time I went through a tunnel and lost the GPS signal the detector portion turned off but the display stayed turned on making you believe it was working. Escorts technical support suggested not going through tunnels or cycling the power after the tunnel. I suggested fixing the software and returned it. This new one works after tunnels but is not load enough when it detects anything. Back to poor speaker performance. Expect the speaker to die just like the others within three years.

Alright
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this after returning the passport. I was not pleased with the fact that it was still finding false radars when there was no cop in range. Within 20 miles it gave off 5 false radars. Returned item. Way too expensive to be having that many false radars.

The previous model is better!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are a few bells and whistles that make this a nice upgrade, however I would have never purchased this if my previous 9500 (blue) didn't fail!

Nice Upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a first generation 9500iX that I was looking to upgrade. I was considering the Escort Max 360, but for $150 more I didn't really see the need for directional arrows. I went with the IX. Pros: Cool new magnetic windshield mount, Good Screen, KA detection is excellent, Auto or manual lock out feature to memorize locations with false alerts, Firmware can be updated using a PC or Mac, Comes with mount-carry case-and smart cord, Smaller than the Max 360. Cons: Limited functionality if it's not paired to the mobile app (won't display posted speed limit), Quite a few K false alerts from cars with lane departure warning systems. (I disabled K band as it's not used where I live), Expensive. Probably the best value in high end detectors. I'd highly recommend it.

Escort IX
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is awesome. sleek look and works perfect in my area. there are a lot of false alerts at first but after you pass by the same spot a few times it will start to ignore it if you have auto learn enabled. It is a bit pricey but if you take road trips to areas with red light or camera enforcement then it is well worth the $$$. Just turn it off and drive right if you pass through Virginia or Washington D.C. (not allowed in those 2 areas)\ pros: database with extensive auto enforcement, updates regularly, autolearn Cons: expensive

Follow-up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would add as a follow-up that the Escort iX provides warnings about red-light and speed cameras. CT doesn't use these money-making tax-enhancing devices yet. But, I have found that when driving the parkways or highways around New York City, the detector alerts to red light cameras that are on nearby streets and that are (obviously) not on the highway. I have also found that the Escort iX alerts to "speed traps." I don't know how these "speed traps" get set, but there's one location on Route 15 by the Route 9 intersection that alerts all the time and there's no speed trap there. So, in CT, perhaps the red-light camera, speed camera, and speed-trap warnings might be superfluous.

Poor range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although I like the design, the range on this radar detector is very poor. Had an encounter with police and barely had time to slow down. Returned and replaced with Uniden R3BLK. Same price but Night and Day difference in RANGE!
