Great range with great functions
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Escort IXc is just like a typical radar detector with many more features. Is this really worth the price? Hopefully this review will to answer that question and any others you may have. First off out of the box you are going to receive the main unit and cords in a really nice travel case. It comes with a set of instructions however set up is very easy and takes a matter of a minute or two. The Escort IXc mounts magnetically to a suction cup which secures soundly to your windshield. The Escort IXc can also be piggybacked to the M1 dash cam. You are also given a free app which can be downloaded for either iOS or Android users. The Escort has buttons to control volume, mute, brightness and sensitivity. It also has a built in filter which disables false sonar readings from vehicles with back up cameras, lane departure or collision warning. The added function of a built in GPS does a good job at giving you a heads up display of your current speed so you don't have to take your eyes of the road . The Escort also comes with a built in usb port which allows the firmware to be updated to keep up with the ever changing world and technology. With that out of the way lets talk about what sets this unit apart from the others and what you can expect to get from the app. First off your going to have your typical radar bands such as laser, Ka, etc. One really nice feature about this unit besides the heads up MPH display is the radar signal display. Once it picks up on a signal and it gives you the band type it will also display its signal strength. As you draw closer the bars will increase and as you get further the bars will decrease. The accuracy of this unit was easily good up to a mile out. On my way home from work there is this officer that camps out in the same exact spot every time. While approaching him i noticed it picked up on his signal at about a mile out. With dead on accuracy it gave me his signal strength which increased appropriately as i drew near to him. I would expect no less from this unit as this is its main design. However where this unit really shined for me was in the functions of the app. There are alot of functions in the app but im going to focus on the ones that stood out the most to me. Through the app you are able to pull up a gps map, digital display of your speed and options for your radar settings. Some of the options you can set is police detection and red light camera warning. Lets talk about the red light camera warning as i felt this was a pretty cool feature to have. When the red light camera warning is activated the radar detector becomes more sensitive to the signal the red light cameras give off. If you don't live in a main city and are not sure what this is basically its a camera thats mounted to the street signal lights and snaps your picture if you run a red light or if your from my town a yellow light. I have a lot of street lights near my city that utilize this feature so i decided to test it out. While approaching such lights my Escort lit up and a voice prompted me saying "Caution Red light camera ahead." It announced this to me with plenty of time to adjust my speed and stop if necessary. Out of all the things this unit can do this one really impressed me the most. Here's the bottom line, when it comes to radar detectors you don't want to skimp on the price or quality as accuracy is key to keeping you safe and ticket free. While this does all the basic features you would expect to see from an average radar detector it also offers alot more extras. From GPS tracking to red light detection this unit is sure to please just about anyone out there. The accuracy was very solid from about a mile out and made this unit well worth it. Do yourself a favor and pick up. Combine this with the M1 dash cam and your good to go.

Long Range Indeed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a week of using the new Escort iXc, I can say the performance is excellent. It’s built on an upgraded M4+ platform, so it has much more processing power and range than the previous iX. The range on this unit is superb. I’m getting radar blips well before I ever reach the source, whether it’s truly law enforcement, or false notifications from other sources. And the intensity range meter lets you know whether the radar is weak or far away, or right on you at max intensity. Setup was super simple, just pop the mounting cup to your windshield and mount the iXc with the magnetic mount, plug in the cable and you’re good to go. You can simply use all the default settings, or change them through the onboard button controls or through the Escort Live app. The Live app allows you to customize all the controls visually and makes it super simple. There is so much you can control with the app, so I suggest watching a video or looking at the manual for specifics. But one thing I love is the ability to configure your radar bands and other notification triggers the way you want. It allows you to tailor the protection to your area, your local drives/commutes, etc. This also can maximize performance. And the auto learn feature is great, blocking out same source false notifications as you drive every day. I already have 3 local non law enforcement hot spots locked out because of the auto learn feature, it’s great. You can connect the iXc to Bluetooth or wifi, and that allows you to pull in real time street speed limit data and display posted speed limits next to your vehicle speed. You can set it to warn you when you’re over the speed limit by a certain threshold, and you can configure the device overall to give you a multitude of readings and notifications from the super simple, to the most advanced expert data. And if you use it with their new M1 dash cam like I am, I love the fact that just one power cable can power them both. They both use the same power connector, so when using together, you simply plug the iXc power cable into the M1 and it passes through the power to the iXc. Super convenient and clean, only needing one cable. If I did have one gripe overall, it was that the power cord seemed too short for me. It’s half straight, half coiled cable, and where I need to mount the unit in my truck, I just barely have enough length. I ‘d love to have at least another 6 inches of cable to work with, and maybe lose the coiled version; I’d prefer all flat, straight cable. But the nice thing is the power cable plug unit has a USB output to charge another device, so you don’t lose your power outlet completely. Overall I’m super happy with the iXc. I haven’t used a detector in a while, and after using the iXc I can’t imagine not having it in my truck. This thing is amazing!!!

Mixed Results
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn't looking for a new radar detector at the time as I have been quite happy with my Valentine One. Decided to give the Escort iXc a go because of the WiFi connectivity. I placed the iXc on the included mount and clipped it in. It magnetically attaches to the mount for quick removal which can be quite handy. Loaded the Escort Live Radar app on my iPhone and immediately ran into pairing problems. After cycling the power a few times and fiddling with the bluetooth on my phone the app finally saw the unit. After clearing that hurdle I was met with an update for the iXc. After a few minutes and the all clear sign I decided to give it a go. I was next struck with a collision between CarPlay and the app. The app must be open and running on the phone in order for the connected features to work and when my phone went into CarPlay mode it killed the app. So once I got CarPlay up and running I went back and opened the app on my phone. With the app open the iXc will tell you the speed of the road you are on and the speed you are going to allow for both visual indication and because you can set an Over Speed Limit alarm. None of the roads in my neighborhood had speed data and it only kicked into action when I got onto the first major road in my area. Found that to be a bit disappointing considering it would negate the Over Speed Limit in the residential areas I found myself in with zero limit shown. Next, I discovered the actual detecting portion of the radar was a real mixed bag. On my street there are a couple free standing radars that the police recently setup and I decided to use them as an initial test. I was within 100ft before the unit began to scream at me. That is far too late to be effective. I kept going and did some highway driving and this time the iXc went off well in advance of the two police cars I passed so that was great. I also found that the iXc didn't give me quite as many false alarms as my Valentine One, but given the mixed bag of results I am not entirely sure I trust it. Overall, the iXc represents some great ideas, but being a jack of all trades and master of none does not command the premium price Escort is asking. Maybe the next iteration will be better or possibly a software update to the current can address some of this. As of right now I can only say it is an average radar detector, but I have seen better (for less I might add).

Decent radar detector, worthy upgrade
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has been years since I considered a new radar detector as my Escort Passport SmartRadar was doing everything I needed it to. However, recent I noticed it was getting more false positives than anything, to the point where it was like 'crying wolf' and I basically ignored it and just hit mute. That led to the Escort IXc which is designed to reduce those false positives by keying in on the specific frequencies for law enforcement and radar speed cams and such, and ignore the mess caused by proximity sensors on nearby cars and every time I drive by a Walgreens. To start, installation is simple, it comes with a suction cup mount (which I don't like much and promptly replaced with a rearview mirror mount) which holds the radar detector with a strong magnet. This is a great upgrade from the classic 'blade mount' of many previous generations of Escort detectors. Makes it quick and easy to pop off and stick in your glove box. It came with a nice carrying case although I can't see where that would be excessively useful unless simply used for storage in the glove box. I like the Escort Defender database which uses GPS to identify if you are near red light cams, speed traps, traffic and such, however it uses a HUGE amount of data, so if you're not on an unlimited plan you might want to steer clear of this. On top of that, it costs money to maintain the subscription to it, which is why I didn't keep using it on my SmartRadar either after the initial year expired. It's really unfortunate that it costs money, as the information is crowdsourced which makes me feel like it should be included as a feature of the device rather than a paid addon. Things like Waze do nearly as well and are free. The IXc includes a 'smart cord' for plugging into a lighter outlet and it is the exact same smart cord that I bought for my SmartRadar almost 5 years ago. It does what it needs to do, including have a USB port, although I would have hoped for an upgrade. If it had 2 USB ports it would have been a considerable upgrade as I can't think of any time in the last 3 years I have driven in the car and only wanted to plug in 1 USB device. In fact, I bought a lighter outlet duplicator simply for the fact it added 2 more USB ports for things like my wife's phone, the USB powering of the bluetooth audio receiver (yes, it's a 2010 civic, it doesn't have native bluetooth) and really anything else I might need to power at the time (son's tablet, daughter's phone, etc). 1 USB port for power just isn't enough these days. As far as capabiltiies are concerned, ignoring the app since I'm not a fan and wont be renewing it, the radar detector itself does well. It seems to have about the same sensitivity as my SmartRadar which puts it in roughly the same class as an Escort Passport 8500. One additional thing worth mentioning is that this radar detector can be paired with the Escort M1 dashcam. Paired is a generous term however as controlling the dash cam requires its own app and it basically just uses the IXc as a mount point and a source of power. On the note of the mount point, it is only compatible with the suction cup mount that comes with the IXc and I have yet to figure out a way to mount it to my car now that my IXc is on the rearview mount. More in the review I'll be writing for this device. All in all, it's a decent radar detector and definitely a worthy upgrade to my severely aged SmartRadar with only a few gripes.

Gets the Job Done
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve always been a bit skeptical of radar detectors since my last ticket in college when my cheap radar detector went off but I didn’t even hear it because it went off all the time. Fast forward 15 years and I didn’t think things would be better but I was wrong. The iXc does a good job of ignoring false alerts, and most of the times I’ve seen a cop on the road the detector has actually gone off, usually with the Ka band. I have yet to see a laser warning go off but honestly I have no idea if the cops here in Central Texas use laser equipment. I love that it shows me both the speed limit of the current stretch of pavement AND my actual speed. I have a truck with oversized tires so my speedometer has always been inaccurate. When my speedo says 70, the detector tells me I’m doing 75. My truck also provides a wifi hotspot which the detector can connect to and provide me with that speed limit information or other hazards such as the red light cameras in Elgin, TX. The range is excellent. Once it was going off for about 10 minutes and I could not figure out why but then I saw about a third of a mile ahead of me a state trooper in a black Tahoe flip a U-turn and start chasing a vehicle the other direction with his lights on. I would have had no idea he was in front of of me that entire time. I haven’t really used the Escort Live app except for configuring the detector’s settings such as my wifi hotspot. I would probably use it much more if it had the ability to display information on my truck’s infotainment system using Android Auto or Apple Carplay. Hopefully, this is something Escort’s app development team will add in the future. Pros: Radar (K, Ka, X) and Laser detection Excellent Range Connects to your vehicle hotspot (automatic updates, speed limit information, red light cameras, etc) Bluetooth/Wifi to Escort Live app on Phone Magnetic Mounting with Strong Suction Cup Can pair with the M1 dash cam accessory Escort Live app for configuration Cons: Had to disable voice alerts (they got annoying) Apple CarPlay? Overall, you can’t ask for much more out of a radar detector.

This isn't your grandfather's "fuzzbuster" !
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Radar detectors have come a long way in my life, or for that matter, in the last 3 years! I've been testing for the last week - range is superb with an extreme minimal number of false alerts (unlike my last detector that I literally was ready to throw out the window for all the false "Train approaching" alerts). Definitely enough range for you to be able to slow down and not get a ticket unless you're doing excessive speeds. What kept me from giving it 5 stars was the software that runs on your phone to integrate with the detector. IMHO it needs the ability to integrate with Android Auto. I use Android Auto to broadcast an app called Waze to the dash display for my stereo - would love to be able to do the same thing with the Escort app ! I'm sure the Apple Car Play folks would like the same thing! Otherwise though a really nice unit - worth every penny!

Fantastic protection just in case
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit is replacing my Escort Max II detector. I have zero complaints what so ever. The new styled mount is a huge improvement. Easy on and off with just a magnet. During the summers this is makes it quick and easy to toss it into the console and set up the windshield screen real quick. I have yet to have false alarms from newer high tech vehicles like I had with my Max II. Be sure to hold the volume buttons, they are not just a quick depress. The auto works best for my mixed highway and city driving. I love the way these are linked to GPS and store false alarms or alerts that are always in the same location, like a stationary speed alert sign. Save big bucks in accidental tickets and run this unit instead. Much better look in upgraded model and sounds much better as well. No more jump out of your seat alerts.
