I would love to give the Escort - iXc Long-Range Radar and Laser Detector 5 stars, but unfortunately, I just can’t when I look at the full package including the companion app (Escort Live). Yes, Escort Live is technically a different product/service that supposedly “works” with many of Escorts Radar and Laser detectors, but Escort Live is included in the product’s description and functionality, so any issues faced must be included in the review of this product overall. Let’s start with the good. Take away any association to Escort Live, the actual Radar Detector itself is well built and works as good as advertised. The magnetic mount is solid. One would assume you would be at risk of the unit falling off the mount, but this device has a strong magnetic hold for a quick de-attach and re-attach to the window mount. Not once did I encounter any movement of the device. From my usage thus far, the detection has been great. The GPS-powered AutoLearn technology will automatically stores areas of detection for common areas you frequently drive past and places the detection in silent mode. So, every time I drive past my local speed indicator zones, I will see that the detector is picking up a signal but I don’t have to hear any annoying false alerts. This helps my drive be a lot quieter than initially expected when setting up my vehicle with a radar detector. Maybe too quiet. Either this thing doesn’t work well at all, or maybe I have been really lucky and have not had many encounters over the last few weeks of use, or the detector has done a great job of filtering out false alerts. I like to think it is the later as I do get alerts in areas I would expect it. Now for the bad, which is really unfortunate and makes absolutely no sense. The product description advertises that you can enable better functionality and a second layer of protection by using the companion application (Escort Live). From Escorts website “Enabled by millions of ESCORT Live! users sharing real-time traffic enforcement alerts, the ESCORT iXc delivers a second layer of protection that no other brand can match, without even having to launch the ESCORT Live! app on your smartphone.” Escort Live is an additional paid service, which makes the issues I have encounters a lot worse. Fortunately, a year of service is included in the purchase of the detector, but that still doesn’t alleviate my disappointment. I would like to think I am tech savvy. By no means the setup of Escort Live to your detector is difficult, it is just flat out buggy is not workable. I can get my mobile app to connect to the radar detector via Bluetooth with no issues. Once that is established, I am able to update settings in my app that automatically update on the detector. Therefore, I know the Bluetooth connection to the detector is working fine. Where I am having issues is using the map mode on the app. When I start out driving, I will see the little blue dot of where my vehicle started, but that is about all it is good for. Periodically I would see the speedometer flicker to a speed (not the speed I am going) but then go back to zero while I am driving. What I later realized was that the map is very slow to update. I’m talking about me getting 10-20 miles down the road, and the map will show the blue dot of having maybe moved a half a mile. When I would initiate a crowd share alert, the alert gets posted where the map has my blue dot, which is miles away from where I am at, rendering this app completely useless. I should also mention that the app was installed on the latest Samsung S10, so it is not like I am trying to make this thing work with outdated technology. I have also read online of other users experiencing issues with the Escort Live app. Escort Live is required to have the speed limit listed on your radar detector and to facilitate overspeed. But when this app doesn’t work, then you lose that functionality among others that it is advertised. In summary, purchase the unit if all you are looking for is a good device and don’t need all of the additional crowd source features. However, will end up paying a premium because it has that “capability”. But at the end of the day, I have to look at this as a whole package (app functionality included) and until Escort can resolve the app issues, I can’t unfortunately recommend this product.

Escort is top of the line when it comes to detectors, and this iXc is no slouch! It is packed with tech with the help of the Escort Live app. This system is designed to be used with cars that have built in wifi hotspots/ data plans in the car itself, but it can still be used as a normal detector with out it as well, you are just missing out on most of the features this detector offers. The companion app pretty much controls everything about the system. There are buttons on the detector itself like volume, power, marking, etc, but when it is mounted on the windshield it is difficult to use those buttons, especially if you are not familiar with the location of each one, so it is much easier to just control everything in the app. The power cord is a smart cord and is really pricey to replace so it is important to take care of it. It plugs into a cigarette lighter, and the other end is a phone cord type connector that plugs into a phone jack on the detector. The main end that plugs into the cigarette lighter has a built in usb plug and a red and green light on it with a mute/mark button. If the detector goes off, it is super easy to reach down and just tap the mute button on the power plug and it will mute the alarm. Holding down the button for a couple seconds will "Mark" your location if you have your wifi connected, and is used to confirm area's where police are present. The companion app offers a mapping/gps system like Waze, and you can keep your app up while your driving in order to see where police are, and also the flow of traffic itself, kind of like Sirius/XM traffic data does, or google maps. In the app you also have the ability to select which radar/laser bands you want it to pick up, and has a ton of settings. I will say this detector can be very difficult to learn all the stuff for, especially if this is your first one. I have had this for weeks and still have not figured everything out yet on it. I can say this is my difficulty on it and might be easier for others. Also I think the windshield mount could be redesigned. it is a very short base and I found to be very difficult to adjust the angle while mounted to the window, especially if you are using the companion dash cam system, it is almost impossible then. I will say the mount is very strong and uses a sticky type suction mount. It is super important that you clean your windshield good where it mounts though. If there is anything on it and it is not completely dry, it will have a good chance of falling off the window once you mount the detector on it and it gets weighed down. It is nice though the detector mounts with a square magnet that has a lip on one side so it is very quick and taking down, while being able to leave the mount on the windshield. Overall this is a great product and it works very well.

The Escort iXc Long-Range Radar/Laser Detector (RD) from Cedar Electronics (CE) is the latest addition to Escort’s c-Series line of connected driver alert/detection systems. The iXc, which replaced the iX, is designed to provide drivers w/an early warning system for speed radars, speed cams, speed traps, & red-light cams, etc. The new iXc adds Wi-Fi, allowing it to pair directly to ‘connected’ cars (vehicles w/resident Wi-Fi). It can also auto-connect to the Escort Live app w/o having to connect your smartphone to the iXc. Or you can control the iXc via your Android or iOS smartphone. As a last option, you can even adjust various settings directly via the buttons atop the iXc itself, although this is difficult & inconvenient given the tight clearances when the iXc is fastened to the windshield mount. The iXc shines when it’s used w/a ‘connected’ (Wi-Fi-ready) vehicle. If connecting solely by Bluetooth, not so much. Over the yrs. I’ve owned a # of RDs, incl. my 1st—a boxy Whistler, then an Escort, a Uniden, a Passport, a Valentine 1, & now the new Escort iXc ‘Smart’ RD. I finally decided to upgrade to the iXc after the Val 1 I’d used for many yrs. was ‘crying wolf’ w/too many false alarms, even after a pricey upgrade that didn’t seem to eliminate enough of the falsing. Out of the Box: The Escort iXc is fully compatible w/CE’s new Escort M1 Dash Cam (DC). The iXc is housed in an attractive new matte black case w/a small subsection of matte silver on top. Setup was straightforward as I followed the incl. quick-start guide. Although the iXc can be purchased/operated independently of the companion M1 DC, I acquired both units to be mounted/used in tandem. Thus, my review of the iXc’s initial setup & performance will be from the perspective of a joint iXc/M1 user. (See my standalone review of the Escort M1 under ‘Dash Cams’.) Both devices attach to the same mounting arm on the Escort EZ Mag Mount w/Sticky Cup. The mounting pkg. incl. a mounting bracket, extended screw, & special grippy washer & rubber washer to ensure the thumb screws provide a snug, vibration-absorbing fit. If this twin-mount apparatus is properly installed, there’s surprisingly little quiver. In summary, the Escort’s mounting hardware is clean & compact, stable & tight, & impressively designed & engineered, esp. for such a quick-attach/release windshield mount. To power the unit, the M1 is connected to the iXc via a pigtail power cord w/an RJ-11 modular phone plug. Next, the iXc’s SmartCord is connected to the M1, also via an RJ-11 plug, & plugged into the vehicle’s 12V DC (direct current) power outlet below. This connection powers both units w/the M1 acting as a pass-thru for the iXc. Conveniently, the 2A (amp) USB port on the back of the SmartCord’s cigarette lighter plug can be used to charge your smartphone or other devices. On the back of the SmartCord is also a mute button, a green power-on indicator light, & a red alert warning light. The SmartCord provides the look of a plain straight cord above-dash w/an extendable (if needed) coiled cord below. Mounting/Wiring Tips: For optimal video capture, mount the M1 in the center of the windshield directly below the rearview mirror mount. The iXc hangs on the same mounting arm to the left of the M1, yet the M1 doesn't obstruct or interfere w/the iXc’s radar/laser sensors. If you prefer a cleaner look, then you might buy/install Escort’s Direct Wire SmartCord accessory. This affordable little hardwire kit eliminates the unsightly/distracting power cord running from near your rearview mirror to your center console. Why advertise your RD to law enforcement? Pros: Environments: Provides early alerts for both city & hwy. driving. Connectivity: Bluetooth & ‘Connected’ Car (Wi-Fi) Mobile Hotspot Compatible. Multi-Color OLED Display: shows all relevant radar bands & laser; select user-preferred colors for hi-res data/graphics. Escort Live: ‘Smart’ detector’s mobile app connects to community of drivers generating 8M+ crowd-sourced alerts/mo. You’re notified as others report police radar, traffic issues, etc. You can report same for other drivers. New Android update released 5/2019. Auto-Learn: Offers intelligent 360° protection w/patented anti-falsing filters w/improved range/accuracy; keys on/auto-stores in database exact frequencies/locations as it learns/remembers speed indicator cams, preventing false alerts & ensuring quieter commutes. Also eliminates/ignores false alarms from proximity sensors on nearby cars from collision avoidance systems (CAS) & advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), incl. backup cams, blind spot monitoring (BSM)/lane departure systems (LDS) & adaptive cruise control (ACC) auto-speed reductions when slower vehicle ahead (Older-gen RDs will false alert to newer nearby vehicles that perform all these hi-tech radar-producing tasks.) Defender Database: provides 1,000's of pre-loaded crowd-sourced hotspots w/GPS-stored locations of speed cams/traps, red-light cams, fixed photo enforcement cams, aircraft enforcement zones, & even newer MultaRadar cams, etc., w/ability to mark/add your own hotspots via GPS. Firmware/software is easily updatable at home or wirelessly. Voice Alerts: Based on your speed/location, unique voice (& buzzer) alerts let you watch the road w/o distraction. Speed Alert: Head-up display of vehicle speed, band, & signal strength to ensure you’re fully informed during an alert. Over-Speed Warning: Uses GPS to display posted speed limit, calculate/display your speed, & warn you if you're over (by mph threshold you select). New M4+ Platform: Adds 3-4 dBs in sensitivity over previous M4 platform for a potential 70% increase in alerting range. Improved Chipset: More processing power delivers quicker GPS sat connections w/more accurate geo-positioning. Segmenting: Quicker alerting to instant-on Ka radar & K-band w/segmenting/rejection for quieter operation. Sensitivity: Improved laser sensitivity; exceptional sensitivity to police radar bands. App allows you to select which radar/laser bands you want to pick up. (Advise researching bands used by LEOs in your travel area. Use ‘Auto’ if unsure.) Intelligent Speed Sensitivity Scanning: Band ID; becomes less sensitive at slower speeds/more sensitive at higher speeds; strength-of-signal scale bar; faster tones mean stronger/closer signal; voice warnings of band received. Instant-On: Improved sensitivity/quickness in detecting instant-on police radar. Room for Improvements: Quick-Start Guide: Included, but instructions on settings must be found at Escort’s website under Support/User Manual. Connectivity: No trouble BT-pairing my phone to other devices, but repeated problems obtaining/maintaining stable pairing w/iXc; forced to power cycle multiple times. OLED Display: Can be difficult to read in daylight/bright light. Directional Arrows: Doesn’t include valuable directional arrows to indicate from where alerts originate (ahead, behind, left, right) the way that my Valentine 1 & flagship premium-priced Escort 360c do. Control Buttons: Difficult to access atop iXc due to close tolerances w/windshield mount; easier to control via app. K-band Filtering: May miss newer MultaRadar Compact Distance (MRCD)/MRCT cams that use modulating frequencies for speed/distance measuring, making them hard to detect (already used in TX, VA, IL, NY, DC, & Canada & expanding). Integration: CE must level up/further develop their device/app to fully integrate w/Android Auto/Apple Car Play. My 2018 SUV didn’t come equipped w/Wi-Fi. Escort customers want to control their apps/devices from their vehicle displays w/o inconvenience of shifting between nav app on vehicle screen & Escort Live on phone.

It's been a number of years since I've had a radar detector. My commute has recently changed and I'm now spending more time on the interstate so I wanted something that'd give me a little warning to avoid any tickets. The radar detector hardware feels much like any other radar detector on the market. I really like the suction mount, that's much more like a GoPro mount than it is a typical press suction cup mount. Then the radar detector "clips" to the mount with a nice quick release magnet. I will warn you...follow the directions as to how the radar detector goes on. I had originally placed the radar on the mount, thinking this is NEVER going to hold. And it didn't. However, there's a small clip that slides together on the mount and the iXC that holds it all together. Once I followed the provided instructions, the iXC was firmly in place. The new Escort iXC utilizes Escort's radar detection app, Escort Live, which gives you a lot of other features that wouldn't be available with a simple radar detector. It also combines a community of other users that can submit radar locations as well as traffic issues - think of it like Waze. The app allows complete control of how the radar detector functions. You can control volume of alerts, what alerts trigger, the color and brightness of the display. One of the features I really liked was the over-speed warning. It uses your GPS position to determine the posted speed limit and gives you a warning whenever you're over. You can set it to different values based on your preference. This is super handy if you're driving through areas where the speed changes. It would be nice if it gave a warning as you were coming into a slower area. The only thing I didn't like is the cigarette lighter plug. This isn't a ding against Escort because all radar detectors do the same. I suppose, the Escort plug is nicer, because it gives you mute buttons on the plug as well as a USB connection to plug in your mobile device. I wish manufacturers would include a hardwire kit instead or in addition. At the end of the day, the cord is more than just a cigarette lighter adapter, but it's ugly running it from your dash to the top of the windshield.

This device works great and is easy to mount to the detector and is very easy to set up and use. I liked the features and enabled me to protect myself while on the road plus it keeps an eye out for radar guns and the presence of radars as I drive. I would highly recommend this device to anyone looking for a streamlined item to use.

    It’s an OK Radar Detector

The detector seems to work sometimes from the best I can tell. After driving around with the detector for a few weeks, it seems to alert more for buildings than police. In the 25 or so times it went off: all but 2 were when I was driving by certain buildings. I passed a motorcycle cop who pointed his radar right at my vehicle. Not a peep. It did trigger on two occasions as a police car passed me on the road. Honestly don’t have much confidence in the detector’a ability to alert only when truly detecting police radar. The detector is also a “smart detector”. There is an app that you install on your phone and once the detector connects via Bluetooth, you will be notified if others using the app report police, red light cameras, etc. You can also report the same for other drivers. There are a few issues I found with app. 1) if you see a police, red light camera, etc., you have to open the app and report it. The issue here is if you are using a navigation app, you have to switch apps and then switch back. Not overly convenient. 2) the app has a built in map, but no navigation. That’s fine if you are on a daily commute, but pretty worthless on a road trip. It would be great to see an Apple CarPlay or Android Car app that had navigation, alerts, and allowed reporting alerts easily for those with those systems. Something like the functionality of the Waze app. It would also be nice for the user manual to be included with the packaging so you don’t have to go hunt it down online. Although the detector is just OK, customer service was top notch. I had a broken mounting bracket in the box and was sent a new part ASAP by the manufacturer. Added an extra star for the customer service. Overall, if you are looking for a radar detector, this one does OK, but honestly not sure it’s better or provides any better value than a less expensive unit.

I am new to the radar detector market and was skeptical that it would work, or the police have newer tech, but man let me tell you, this model is spot on. After a week or so, it has stored all the digital signs that tell me my speed and it is nice and quiet unless there is something afoot. It has definitely saved me a ticket, or at least made me aware of more spots where the common places the ticket writers hang out. Definitely worth the purchase. This iXc is a very well built unit and looks awesome with the scan bar in action. I feel like knight rider. It is nice to be in the know, and I would never drive without one again. The app for android leaves a bit to be desired and seems to be more of a novelty. Definitely get the hard wire kit because the dangling cord is super annoying. Great product and very user friendly

This radar detector is pretty good. It does what it says and is simple to use. Only thing is I wish it could pick up a signal a little quicker like the old detector I had.

Purchased this product from Best Buy on 7/3/19. Literally 60 days later the screen started to go out. It developed lines through the display and now there are so many that the display is worthless as you cant read the already small text. Then I reached out to Escort customer support and they their customer service is lacking. They hassled me because I don't have the original receipt even after I took the time to register it through their app. Then if they DO decide to repair it I have to send it in and wait months for them to diagnose, and repair. The wont send a replacement device out. For $400 you expect a better built product AND at least better customer support if it was just a faulty unit. You wok hard for your $400 and i'd suggest spending it with someone who takes pride in their products and their customers.
