Far Cry 4's massive open world of Kyrat is a beautiful setting to explore and inevitably wreak havoc. It's a vast playground that has very few rules when it comes to how you want to approach its dangers. However, despite its strengths, its also a double edged sword, as the plethora of things to do eventually leads to a lack of direction. You play as Ajay Ghale, a Kyrati-born American who returns to his motherland to scatter his mother's ashes as per her request before her death. He is immediately introduced to the Golden Path revolution, a group trying to take down the leader of the country, Pagan Min. As you progress through the story, there is also an internal power struggle between Golden Path members and you must choose who to support. This could have led to some interesting narratives, however Far Cry 4 fails to fully take advantage of it, mainly due to Ajay's lack of character development. I hardly cared about any of the characters and did the missions just to advance the game further. The story overall is a big missed opportunity. However, if all you're looking to do is "blow **** up" as Pagan Min loudly yells at the beginning of the game, you'll feel right at home in Kyrat. Most, if not all of Far Cry 3's basic structure is here. Outposts, hunting, crafting, skill trees, they're all there. The weapons are responsive and satisfying, especially the recurve bow. Drop in and drop out co-op is also introduced, and causing mayhem is significantly more fun with a friend. Far Cry 4 also features a competitive multiplayer mode, which surprisingly caught me off guard with how fun it actually was. An asymmetric approach pits the gun-toting Golden Path against the magical Rakshasa with simple modes such as Demon Mask, a variant of capture the flag. I suggest everyone at least try it, since most people would overlook multiplayer in a Far Cry game. All in all, this is a Far Cry game through and through with a variety of possibilities to how you want to overtake Kyrat. I wish it took some more risks and not played it so safe to Far Cry 3, but if what you're looking for more is Far Cry, then this is it.

If you haven't heard of the Far Cry series, you either don't play video games or you live under a rock. TBH, I never really enjoyed the original Far Cry games. Great ideas, but I guess the consoles back then just didn't have enough horsepower to allow Ubisoft to really open up. Flash forward to the PS4, and you've got plenty of resources to make a superb open world game. You can go ninja and do silent kills a la MGS, you can snipe, you can throw rocks to distract guards, or heck, you can throw bait and call animals to attack for you while you sit in the shadows. The point is, you've got freedom to play the game however you want. There's only a few story points where you're really pushed to play a certain way, and for the sake of not spoiling the story, I won't be specific. But for 99% of the game, you can be as sneaky or as guns blazing as you want. Plenty of interesting characters, lots of optional quests to keep you buried in the game for weeks, and the guns have enough individual character to make you want to try different guns.

This game is truly amazing! It takes everything right that Far Cry 3 did well and just improved upon it. Story is great and the landscape view from the distance is just phenomenal. Upgrades are a lot of fun in this game and the fact that you can play through the campaign however you want really makes it unique! The Co-op mode is a whole lot of fun when playing with friends too. Endless action and a very large map that will be sure to keep you exploring for months to come. Worth every penny!

I played Far Cry 3 and thoroughly enjoyed it but was hesitant about the next one just because it seem so similar. So instead of getting it on launch, I decided to wait and watch videos of gameplay on it. Wanted to see what they improved on and added. The main draw for me was being able to play in the open world co-op online with a friend, so you can essentially take on certain quests, take over post, and just wreck havoc on anything with a friend. I do wish it included campaign co op but this alone was already major improvement on the previous installment. Pros - -A lot to do, campaign really fun way less repetitive than the last go round. -A couple of unique missions that surprised me. -Riding an elephant into a post, and having several other ways to approach it. (I prefer never getting caught and using bait and arrows) Plenty of weapons to play with. Cons - -Maps are scattered with so many things to collect and discover that it can be overwhelming. (optional of course but I personally don' t like driving past things on a quest and not stop and end up doing something else.) -Side quest can get repetitive but these are often true in any type of open world games so its difficult to knock FC4 for similar problems. -Decision don't really mean a thing, I despised both the main characters, won't spoil anything. -Don't bother with multiplayer online modes. Fun doesn't last long. Overall, I would recommend it especially if it is on sale. Pretty fun and solid. 7.5/10 for sure.

I have played a bit of the previous Far Cry games but not too much so I can't really compare this game to them. That said, by itself, the game is an extremely enjoyable game. After completing the first few introductory missions, you have complete freedom to explore where ever you please on half of the map, with the final half accessible after completing enough story missions. Playing stealthily or playing as Rambo yields the same end result for the most part, but hitting someone in the head with an arrow from 80m away and butchering his comrades with your machete does give you a certain sense of satisfaction. Plenty of collectibles, locations, and side missions help keep you interested while exploring the enormous map. Decent variety of weapons with a certain level of customization. Can't speak as to how well co-op plays since I've only tried a few minutes of it but tag-teaming an outpost does seem fun. I've sunk about 30 hours into the game and just recently unlocked the last half of the map. Keep in mind that's not just for the story missions themselves, but a large portion of those collectibles and side missions as well since the collector in me took over for this game. Some side quests and karma events do get repetitive/laborious but they are mostly optional and can be skipped if wanted. Definitely recommend picking up this game if you like open world shooters with lots to collect and complete.

One of the best of 2014!

Most will say this is similar to Far Cry 3. The truth is, that's completely correct...but doesn't give this game enough justice. It's everything the previous game was, but better! Everything seemingly refined, from the mission structure, the open world with seemingly endless (but fun) side missions to the weapons etc. Definitely one of the best this year, if not the very best!

Far cry 4 is a great game. The story is good, side missions are wonderful and again you are in charge of your approach on EVERYTHING, which is what many of us love in a Far cry game. The graphics are very beautiful and the story drags you in a world of action, just like in Far cry 3. The Co-op is good, but not that good. The Co-op lets you and a friend go in a free mode like server, where you can hunt, liberate outposts, capture towers and do little side missions. As well, as capture 4 giant bases called fortresses , but you can NOT do any campaign mission's in Co-op AT ALL. Which, honestly really sucks cause the campaign in my opinion is like the best thing in Far cry besides everything else. I didn't get a chance to try out the multiplayer, but i hear its good. Bottom line, this game is worth getting if you want to have fun or if your a Far cry fan BUT, Once you beat the game its just not that fun anymore and has basically no reply value. This is the type of game you play and beat and then either trade in or let it sit on the shelf and collect dust. My opinion? Your better off renting the game at your nearest red box.

This is the best open world shooter I have played in a while. The environment looks great and is fun to navigate. Shooting controls feel great and the enemies can be challenging. Driving controls are not good, but the game does have fast travel.

Far Cry 4 improves on the awesome improvements made by the last game (Far Cry 3) by introducing co-op play and custom maps/game modes for multiplayer or single player challenges. The draw for me is always the single player story campaign and this one was really good! You come to Kryat to spread your mother's ashes and get tangled up in a fight for freedom between an evil dictator and a rebellion torn between tradition and evolving to the modern age. Your choices during the game will shape the outcome of the people of Kryat (although it wasn't as noticeable as I'd hoped). Highly recommend this if you like shooter games or stupid action such as Just Cause 2 or GTA.

Didn't play Far Cry 3 so don't know how this compares to that one. But had and still having a lot of fun with this one. Reminds me a lot like playing Red Dead Redemption. Have over 40 hours of playing time between main story missions, and all the side stuff to do. 2p co-op is smooth. Sorry haven't played much of the MP been too busy with the SP. Best open world game I've played on PS4. Thought Watch Dogs was a bit boring, and played GTA5 on PS3 already.

I never played Far Cry 3 and from what I've heard Far Cry 3 and 4 are very similar games. As a first time player of the series I was quite impressed. I'll keep this short and sweet and list my likes and dislikes. What I liked: -Great shooting mechanics -Fun weapons -Beautiful setting -Interesting characters -Fun story missions What I Disliked: -Repetitive side missions -Poorly done multiplayer -Weird driving controls Overall Far Cry 4 was a fun game that I would highly recommend for a first time player of the series.

Far Cry 4 is a very entertaining open-world game that boasts all sorts of weapons, vehicles, and activities -- from gliding off cliffs with a wingsuit, to stealthily dispatching enemies with bows and arrows, even to stomping across Kyrat on the back of a huge elephant. What makes the game even more exciting is the fully-fledged co-op functions -- adventuring through Kyrat becomes much more exciting and chaotic with a friend.
