Now the only reason why I gave 4 put of 5 stars is because I understand this is a open world game as all the farcry games are but.....theres just so many things on your map at once and there really is not a set story to follow anymore. As there used to be in numbers 3 as well as for. But the gameplay and graphics are very good. But that does not make the whole game. But I got this game on sale for $20 at best buy. Well worth 20 but i wouldn't pay 50 or 60. Its lacking on a story to much.

An average FPS experience

This was my first experience with the Far Cry series, and I've played about 12 hours into it, taking my time going through one leg of the story. My experience is with a standard PS4.
Gameplay: 3/5
The gameplay is standard FPS fare. Nothing particularly special, new, or outstanding. I needed to reduce look sensitivity off the bat to keep my view from jumping too far on a light thumbstick press, but once that was done, controls were pretty tight and standard. The game world is nice and open, with multiple "regions" that you can progress through, 75% of which are immediately available following the short intro island. There is a progression of perks that you can attain to customize your playstyle a bit, but ultimately, most of the ones that you're going to want are all attainable. There are a decent number of weapon upgrades, but I feel they're somewhat limited. The mercenary AI is expectably average, as are enemy combatants, sometimes just standing there waiting for their point-blank headshots. However, the formula is one that works, and works pretty well. I've encountered several functional bugs that are somewhat frustrating, including a story mission involving an airplane, where upon being shot down (dying) and resuming the mission, it consistently respawns you in the air with your aircraft completely powered down, causing it to instantly fall to the ground. This results in a death loop unless you quickly hop out and open your parachute. I expect this will ultimately be patched, but I refuse to believe that nobody noticed this in testing. Quests and collectibles are everywhere. Not Assassin's Creed Origins level, but enough that I decided to start overlooking anything that doesn't strike me as really interesting, for fear of getting burned out before I can finish the game. If you're a completionist and love having tons of stuff to do, this game will satisfy your itch.
Graphics: 4/5
The foothills of Montana are amazingly detailed, and environmental effects are superb. Character models are a bit stiff in their stature and movement; better that last-gen, but I've come to expect more. Variety in character models is also sorely lacking, and often multiple copies of the exact same model can be found standing right next to each other. Other games get around this by giving you gas-mask equipped, uniformed soldiers to fight, but when your game calls for plainclothes American cultists, it's very noticeable, and I wish a little more work was done to avoid this. Also, while flying in an aircraft and hunting for ground-level mission targets such as vehicles, they often don't visibly spawn until you're practically on top of them, and they vanish again when you come around for a second pass, making it seem like an intentional draw distance limit while piloting. Ground structures and scenery do not have this problem at all, so I expect those were given priority and the "moving model" distance limit was imposed due to graphical limitations, and it's possible that the Pro model PS4 might handle this better.
Sound: 4/5
Sound is pretty good, and they've done a decent job with the surround. Nothing really noticeable, but then, you're not really supposed to "notice" sound effects. They're just supposed to be natural. The music isn't anything you're going to want to listen to outside of the game, but it fits. There are a few bugs where the game applies an effect, such as echo to speech (meant to sound as if it's coming over loudspeakers), and then has a problem turning it off again, so that radio chatter and voices of people standing right in front of you ~also~ sound like they're coming over a loudspeaker, but it's not often enough to be a serious problem.
Story: 4/5
The story is good, but requires mild suspension of disbelief, as it overlooks the most sensible solution (escape the region and contact the national guard) in favor of (help out the locals and build a civilian resistance). But video games are all about suspending disbelief, so I won't hold that against it. A superb job was done with the voice acting, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the story unfold. There are some areas of enforced progression that seem to be triggered by your progress level in an area, in the form of "elite" soldiers showing up to capture you, which they manage by using drugged weapons that you can't really avoid, which is sort of a lazy mechanic, but a tolerable one.
Overall, I think this is a good game, and I'd definitely recommend it if you have a love for the FPS genre and enjoy long single-player campaigns.

Far Cry 5 is a very good game! Is open world and danger all around you! Many action base game. The story is very different from other games. Not really an easy game to play! But, not impossible to complete. This game takes place on the outdoors in the state of Montana. This is a great game to play with someone online. I'm satisfied with my purchased.

Wow! I spent a couple months grinding away at this game and never lost interest. The choice of location and graphics are nothing shy of breathtaking even on a large front projection home theater setup. But, it's not how good it looks or even how there's so much to do that makes this game really stand out. It's the refinement and immense flexibility the player has. If you even can rush through this game in a week or so, it's your loss, as this one is worth exploring, despite some redundancy in character graphics. The story is compelling enough and you can play through as either male or female characters. I can't wait to play it again, this time as the opposite sex, not only for the adventure, but to see how some of the alternative dialogue options play out. If the first person shooter play isn't satisfying enough, you can hunt, fish, drive all manner of land vehicle (except 2-wheeled - didn't notice any of those first time out), boats, jet skis, planes, and best of all your own helicopter to traverse the map however you see fit, land anywhere, do your thing, get back on board and move on. Oh, you can upgrade to gunship too and take out targets without even landing.
I have only two real pet peeves with this game, one is how people running for their life from a gunfight will often take your ride, including, for no apparent reason, those you hire to follow and help you. Apparently everybody (literally) can even fly a helicopter in Montana! Having your ride stolen gets old fast. Second complaint is the running mechanics. This is one of those games that requires you to push L3 to run. The problem being, in a game this size, it wears out your controller fast. It's bad enough that Sony seemingly designed these controllers - which are fantastic in every respect aside from longevity and their choice of such a cheap battery - to get you to replace them at least once per year. But games that use L3 to run hastens wear and before you know it, stick movement is too loose. With a game with this much running, the X button would be far better suited.

Everything about this game is terrific! Unbelievably well done except for one part. The ending is a letdown. I'm not giving away any more spoilers but I thought it was building up to something bigger. The controls are great, the graphics are outstanding, the story is exciting, the humor is hilarious, and overall it's realistic. I love love love this game! Also purchased the season pass, can't wait for more content. The online arcade is also wicked fun and entertaining. If you don't have this game, definitely purchase it, you won't be disappointed.

While Far Cry isn't known for significantly changing the formula from game to game, Far Cry 5 is a great expansive game that continues the same formula but in a cult in Montana.
That formula is basically claiming waypoints, taking out guards, avoiding detection, extending your arsenal, and just having fun. I really enjoyed playing through this game including finding collectibles and some of the unique weapons and gear. Highly recommended for fans of past entries and or anyone that just likes a good FPS with a story that isn't too deep.

If you have never played a far cry game, I would suggest you to go and try this one out. Basically it's a open world FPS. The gameplay feels fun, the driving, and gunplay feels good. The story was pretty interesting and full of surprises. The open world map is pretty huge so, there is a lot to do in this game. Also the game looks amazing, playing it on a ps4 pro on a 4k tv and it just looks so good. I would recommend giving this game a try, I got it for like 20 bucks and it was well worth it.

Expands on Farcry 4's open world with the same engine and open-ended gameplay design. Hunting elements are carried over as in the previous installments to build inventory and health, weapons are pretty numerous not so diverse and graphics are up a notch from part 4. If you liked 3 or 4 then this will be a continuation making fans happy with JUST enough new to keep it fresh but not getting away from the Farcry Formula of previous 2 games to drastically sway anyone who didnt like 3 or 4 to anything new here.

It’s a bit repetitive, it’s got some dumb AI enemies, and it crashed on my ps5 like 3 times several years after launch…
But this is the most fun far cry game to me.
I do not feel even a hint of guilt tearing a warpath through these cult guys. I am liberating a small American town and fighting for the people. I am a patriot. Let freedom ring. Ca caawww.

First of all, long time gamer dad here(age 46!) If you like the Far Cry series, you'll probably like this one too. It's set in Montana, very pretty rural scenery, very realistic with the visuals This is a shooter, open world style game, maybe not for young kids. Very graphic at times. You have 3 main enemies in this religious cult you're fighting against plus all their followers. Lots of side missions per area, tons of things to do. The game has some political jokes, one character says, "If the liberals couldn't take my guns, no-one can!" Funny(to me). You can command boats, helicopters, quads, cars, trucks, etc. The trusty wing-suit is still there as well as the grappling hook. The explosions and the sound of them is top notch. Lots of weapons, most all you can upgrade in some way. I actually like the fishing challenges, kind of mixes it up a bit Good story, definitely different in a way from the other Far Cry games, but the basic mechanics are the same. As of me writing this, Far Cry 5 is the 3rd best selling game as of late. What are you waiting for? C'mon down to Hope County!

Graphics look amazing, the story and characters are interesting so far, and gameplay is what you’d expect from a Far Cry title. There is an improved buddy system, there are a variety of weapons and attachments to choose from, and now you get to actually customize your appearance. The alt right can suck it! This is a good game!

This game is great, I've played it for weeks and am at only 16% done. It's a lot of fun, open map but with a clear direction, controls are on point, the graphics are cool and the story line is pretty awesome. One thing I didn't like was that its in first person only.

Haven't really played the older ones except some of 4 and Primal, but good design changes made this one less Ubisoft Open world and more about exploring. Fun to cruise around in or you can still bounce from point to point to beat the story quick.

If youre looking for some fairly mindless action packed fun, a large open world, and gorgeous graphics, this is the game for you. Gunplay is solid, even if the weapon selection could be more varied. Feels good to take down a cult outpost, and your companion AI is actually quite impressive. Probably the best canine companion ever (sorry Dogmeat).
Story tries pretty hard, and approaches greatness at times. Religious and political overtones are pretty heavy handed, but that's always how Farcry has been. Just gets a little too serious and nonsensical at times, especially when it tries to justify the mass amounts of people that you are killing in strange ways.
Story aside, maybe some of the funniest dialogue ever, especially some of the loading screens and tool tips for your gear. I laughed out loud more than a few times reading notes and such that you come across in the world.
Recommended, just don't take it too seriously!!

Great Addition to Far Cry Series

Ok, so the story is so so and the characters are a bit uneven, but the actual gameplay itself is simply fantastic. The way the side content unfolds in the game world and the variety of missions in the main campaign is top notch. Although the weapon variety could be better, the gunplay and combat are as good as they have ever been in the series.
If you're looking for some deep philosophical engagement then you aren't going to find it here. However, if you just want a spectacular open world with loads of interesting content then you're in luck.
I haven't had a chance to really check out the coop or arcade mode, but from poking around a bit they both appear to be meaty additions that will add some more longevity to the title.

Far Cry 5 does so much right, it's hard to find anything wrong with it. In fact, they've trimmed so much of the excess away and streamlined the experience to allow you to focus on the fun that you really hope they don't return to prior iterations that had you waste so much time hunting for ingrediants. Crafting still plays a minor role here, but it's mostly an afterthought that doesn't require any intense hunting the environment.
Ammo bags, inventory satchels are earned by perks, not by hunting and crafting them, as an example.
You'll be able to add a helper from various styles (sniper, explosives, etc) and eventually get to add from your choice of a dog, a bear or even a cougar.
Far Cry Arcade is here, with the ability to walk up to an arcade machine and play from community made maps or even create your own to share.
Live Events offer weekly challenges that allow you to earn unique rewards, as well as premium currency, individually and from community goals.
In many ways, Far Cry 5, with its ability to forge your own story, large playground of interacting with almost anything, and over the top events is the first-person game the GTA5 first person view tried to be.
Whether you're a long time fan of the Far Cry series who grew tires of the excess crafting or climbing towers to reveal the map (or any other extraneous exercise,) or a newcomer deciding where to start, Far Cry 5 is simply the best choice among them all.
As an added bonus, if you choose to grab the Season Pass, you'll get the upcoming port of Far Cry 3 on PS4, as well as zombie, alien, and VietNam modes. One of the few Season Passes I felt compelled to purchase.
