Many appreciate the game's unique dungeon crawling elements and consider it a great remake of a classic title. This game has a great story and atmosphere thanks to the world map and the voice acting. The game has a great progression system and good old Fire Emblem strategy flair. I give this game a 9/10!!

Albeit the black sheep of the franchise this remake of fire emblem Gaiden adds much needed presentation and story to the otherwise bland original. The maps may be the worst of the series but the story, characters, and voice acting more than make up for it.

Echoes is FE Gaiden remastered for modern players. It's gameplay is completely different from the recent Awakening and Fates, making it not exactly for everyone. However, it is worth giving a shot, whether its classic or not. With stellar characters, story, and the newly added voice acted text, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will surprise new and old fans alike.

I already love the combat, strategy, and story in the Fire Emblem series. I was not expecting I could explore dungeons with the two MC and it is a pleasant surprise.

First thing to note: This game is a remake of an older Fire Emblem game, so some of the newer mechanics in the FE series are not present here (like children), but are not really missed in my opinion. The story and characters though have more depth and likability. The rock, paper, scissors combat is gone, and replaced more with an attack vs defense profile... which can be influenced by terrain as well. Some weapons are still stronger against particular units, but I find the attack vs defense system better than just the weapon type system. I recommend this game for fans of FE or turn based strategy.

This game reminds me so much of the original ones. It gets back to the simple structure of Fire Emblem games with the added bonus of including a compelling story (one of the best fire emblem stories I've read, actually). The added battles allows me to beef up my troops before a major fight, and the dual story allows you to see and structure everything that is happening. If you already like fire emblem games, you'll love this one. If you have never played any fire emblem, but love a good game of chess, you should definitely give this a try.

Fantastic shake up to the FE formula

This is a shake up to the formula after the last few Fire Emblem games and it's great. It's almost fully voice acted, more emphasis is placed on the plot and it's paced better for it (this also means they did away with marriage and kids, take that as good or bad based on your preferences). I love the gameplay changes and how they affect strategy, especially the removal of the weapon triangle and how it costs health to use spells and special abilities. Dungeon crawling is even a part of the game. These changes make for a game that feels far more fresh than Fates was.

This is a remake of an older Fire Emblem game brought to life with today's graphics. It is a strategy RPG where you move your characters around a battlefield and attack enemy units. It does take a bit of reading and planning, so not recommended for younger children. The game is rated T for teen, but my ten year old was mature enough to play it and enjoy it. This is certainly one of the better games for the system for anyone who likes strategy and role playing elements.

An Amazing Remake and Great Installment

As another installment in the Fire Emblem franchise, this game is a remake rather than an original game. It's a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, a game known for being different gameplay wise than the standard Fire Emblem series formula. Because of this, series staples such as personal skills and weapon durability are not there. The gameplay overall is considerably more challenging than the other two DS titles, Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates. Instead of relying on a weapon triangle advantage, you have to carefully consider the positioning of your units for the best possible chance at victory. Permanent death is back but you can play Casual Mode instead if you don't want to lose your units or reset. Another new feature that makes battles a bit easier is the Mila's Turnwheel mechanic that lets you reverse the turns of a battle incase you make a mistake. Lastly, dungeon crawling returns from the original game that adds an aspect of exploration to the game. The graphics and presentation of this game is beautiful, with wonderful music and amazing artwork. The 3D models of each of the characters are also very detailed which add to the immersion. Each of the character's personalities are very entertaining with their clever and natural dialogue, which makes it even more painful when you lose one in battle. All in all, this is a great addition in the Fire Emblem franchise. While this game might not appeal to newcomers as much veterans of the series, it will still give anyone who picks it up a great experience.

An excellent tactical RPG. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia offers hours of tactical rpg goodness. You take command of two separate armies each with their own cast of eclectic and likable characters to command and battles to fight. The world of Valentia offers a engaging story and plenty of sidequests to partake in. Easily one of the best tactical RPGs on the 3DS handheld system. I highly recommend it for all hardcore 3DS owners.

Graphics and soundtrack are superb, you wouldn't know this is a remake of a super old game. Technically sound. Likable characters. Actual gameplay gets frustrating. A lot of maps feature endlessly spawning enemies. The overworld also features armies that periodically spawn to harass you. Finally the end of the game features a super long dungeon that takes hours to beat and involves many random battles. I don't have a problem with random battles in RPGs but in turn based strategy games like Fire Emblem where battles are very very time consuming it drains a lot of the joy of out the game. I would have been happy just going from story battle to story battle, cut out the filler. If you like Fire emblem you will like this game, if you are just looking for an RPG or SRPG be warned it drags towards the end.

This game definitely stands strong with its fire emblem brethren. Sure, it may not have the massive following of the two previous games but it is still a good game.
