I tried the Galaxy Watch first...

Tried the Galaxy Watch first but it wouldn't hold a charge longer than a couple days. Never had any issues with Garmin trackers so I decided to buy a Garmin smart watch. After weeks of research, I decided to go with the Femix 5 and I'm glad I did. The first charge lasted 11 days without using the GPS tracking but using all other features. The always-on display is a plus for me as well. It does not have a touchscreen, but that wasn't a necessity for me. Watch faces are customizable and the heart rate tracking, sleep tracking and Bluetooth pairing with the Galaxy 10 was exceptional. I highly recommend this smart watch. It has been great in every way.

Excellent, together with the garmin application you have so much information that the exercises and calories are easier to track.

I had to replace a Polar V800 that was stolen, along with my gym bag. Wanted to try something new to the market. It’s cumbersome to use, and has lots of moving parts. Looks cool though and I like the Garmin App.

Garmin, with the Fenix 5, aims to lead the crowed fitness tracker space by giving the user the opportunity to track and provide data for a large number of activities including running, walking, swimming, hiking, biking, rowing, skiing, climbing, cardio, etc. It even tracks sleep patterns, barometric pressure, temperature and provides links to your smart phone. It competes head to head with the Apple Watch but lacks the ability to either stream music or take calls without the presence of your phone. And, of course you don't get the Apple ecosystem. Nevertheless, it's proficient in all that it does and offers a variety of sizes which should be especially appealing to people with smaller bone structures. It surpassses the Apple watch in battery life lasting up to 75 hours (but less if you constantly use power hungry apps). If you're a data driven athlete, this is a great device. If you can afford or if you only want to own one device, you might be happier with the latest iteration of the Apple watch.
Pros
Large number of activities tracked
Lots of data
Clear very readable screen
No need for heart monitor chest strap but can be used with one
Changeable watch bands
Multiple bezel sizes
Multiple watch faces
Cons
Expensive (Runs from $600 to $850
No music stream capability
No ability to take phone calls
No touch screen

If you want any device that is focused on keeping accurate fitness records regardless of the activity, this Garmin does that. And it keeps track of all your activity on the Garmin App and website so you can track your progress. It has the other features you would expect of a electronic watch, plus it has GPS and can track your route. And if you know Garmin, the brand is synomous with accurate GSP readings. it connects to you phone email and messages so you can see at a glance what was sent to you. And the battery life is superb, you don't have to charge for days. It is totally water proof for the Ironman in you. It just met all of my expectations based on other reviews. I have no negatives or wishes. It works for what I need and it does it extremely well.

The Garmin 5 is a terrific sports watch if you are very into tracking everything. This watch can track pretty much anything you throw at it. It is attractive, durable and once you get the hang of the interface, relatively easy to use. I did knock a point off the score because the Garmin Connect app is a bit wonky and dated. Also, there have been some syncing issues with the watch from time to time as a result of the Garmin servers, however those issues are few and far between. All in all, if you want sports tracking at its finest, this is the watch to get. The Apple Watch is getting better and better, but the Garmin has crazy battery life that an Apple Watch simply can't match. It is nice to go on a week vacation and never have to charge your watch. There are also some very cool watch faces available in the Garmin store. Highly recommended.

So I had Garmin for years and started with a fitness tracker up to the Vivioactive HR. I decided to change and went to a Samsung Frontier S3. I was so sorry I did. It crapped out on me after a few months, so I was looking for something to replace it. I kept looking at the Fenix 5, but I just couldn't see spending that kind of money for a watch. So, I tried the Vivoactive 3 Music...and I swear it's highway robbery what they're charging for that piece of kid's toy plastic. I returned it for a Fitbit Ionic. It was good...but not having Geek Squad on something doesn't sit well with me with the job I have. I finally caved in and paid for the Fenix 5.
I didn't think it was necessary to pay this much for a watch. However, when I opened it...it actually felt like it was made to withstand just about anything. Which then had me worried I wouldn't like wearing it because it was too bulky. This somehow straddles the perfect line between quality made heft, yet like you're not wearing it comfort.
The watch also tracks everything you could ever want. I know it isn't the fancy Samsung or Fitbit screen, but I love not having to literally charge it every day. I've worn it non stop for 3 days now and the battery is still at 77%. I would've been happy with 3 day battery life after having the Frontier S3 last a single day, but this easily will last 2 weeks in normal watch mode.
I also thought I wouldn't like the non touchscreen feature, but I have come to love it. It's nice not have accidental touches while showering with it or simply cleaning the face with my sleeve.
There are so many faces and ways to customize it and make it exactly how you want it, there's no reason to not buy one if you're even thinking about it. I spent 3 days going to a different Best Buy and buying and returning other bands to not have to spend as much...but I should've just gave in and got the GPS watch I wanted in the first place.
I've tried to find a reason to not like this watch at the price, but I love it all. Weeks long battery life, durability and comfort, a beautiful screen that's easy to read in the sunlight, tracking of just about any stat you could want, to complete customization of how you want the watch to look...I can not recommend this GPS watch enough!!

I have had the Fenix , 2, 3 and now the 5. The 5 comes standard with HR which is a huge bonus. The battery life is significantly better than the 3 and I felt the 3 was really good in battery.
Choice of custom watch faces and the amount of data you can get on one screen is surprisingly good on the 5.
If you prefer the physical size of the 3 the X might be more your speed since the 5 is a smaller foot print. At first I wasn't sure if I liked the smaller foot print of the 5 but now when I put the 3 on I realise they got it right.
No complaints at all.

My main us for this watch is running. I wanted a heart rate monitor watch and don't like the square Apple watch. I like a more traditional looking watch. The GPS is very accurate and the amount of information it gives is amazing. The battery last for 10+ days. 4 stars because I believe noting is 5 stars

This is almost the perfect watch. If you are looking for a watch that does almost everything great then this is for you. The styling fits my needs, and the smaller size from my previous Fenix 3 is what brought me back to Garmin. The 3 was just too big for me to wear daily but this one fits my wrist and while it is still bigger than the average watch does the job. The watch is packed with features and should cover almost anything outdoors you can think of with some indoor activities as well. The batter life is phenomenal and has lasted 10-12 days per charge with a daily workout at the gym or a run. I now have a watch that I can charge prior to going out of town and don't have to worry about a useless watch is I happen to forget yet another charger at home. As great as it is, there is one downside to this watch. The GPS accuracy of this unit is not nearly as good as other devices I've tried and as it's from Garmin, the consumer GPS specialist, I expect more. With the right HRM this can provide a runner with everything you want to know about your run. The issue is if the watch can't provide an accurate distance, most of those metrics are off. I ran a know course with this watch over a dozen times after first getting it and the distance varied over a tenth of a mile with not much consistency from run to run. My other device only varied 0.02 of a mile with consistent results time and time again. For those wondering, both watches were worn on the same wrist at the same time so satellite constellations and atmospheric conditions were the same for both devices. When comparing the results of the Fenix 5 to that of the Fenix 3, I see the same errors so I'm guessing Garmin is using the same chip set and algorithms to compute the distance. They should and could do better, especially for the price.
I wanted a watch that I thought looked great, had tons of features, and had a long lasting battery. This watch fits 95% of those so it's a keeper. I don't need to track my runs with the kind of accuracy I mentioned earlier but for those that keep an eye on pace and splits, you may need something better.

I bought this to replace my Garmin Vivosmart HR. I am LOVING this watch. You can feel the quality in it, and it simply has a ton of functionality.
I have used it for running (with GPS), walking, lots of strength training, aerobic exercises -- it is excelling in every area. I don't even bother taking it off while I go to my daughter's swim lessons because it's waterproof (and is even designed to help train for Triathlons).
Battery life is excellent, I usually plug it in around 1x / week - and that's because I'm proactive around ~50% battery life. Not even because it's dying on me.

I upgraded to this from a Forerunner 920xt. The battery life is excellent and I have had good experience with the heart rate monitor as it shows similar to the treadmill/bike at the gym. It grabs the GPS fast. Only downside is the menu screens are hard to see in the sun (without my glasses on) and I haven't learned where they all are yet. It is a little heavier as well, especially compared with the Forerunner 935, but the current price on these is fantastic!

Switching from Apple watch series one and very happy with this thing.
Perfect for all sports activities. I do long distance running and high-speed intervals (using custom workouts), swimming and gym. Well, not really useful for the gym though, but I like hear rate measurement and stopwatch.
Comfortable wear on a day to day bases on not a big hand even.
But found not really comfortable to use it at night as sleep tracking.
Customizable watch faces are awesome, a screen is perfect on a bright sun.
Incredible time on one charge. 7to 10 days with 3-4 training per week.
The only cons so far:
Steel part on a front really easy to scratch and I was not able to find a replacement in stock.
Current firmware (6.00) has a bug and resets alarm that was set directly on a watch when syncing with a phone (at least with iPhone).

I was very hesitant about buying a $500+ smart watch as I’ve never had one. I run 5-6 days a week and life a pretty active lifestyle. I’m also in the military so I was worried about ruining an expensive piece of electronic on my wrist during field training. The guerilla glass on this thing is so tough! This watch has taking all my expectations and crushed them. I learn more about this watch every day and it impresses me so much. The battery life is phenomenal even when I use the GPS feature so much. The apps and all of the features this thing has are amazing. If you are able to afford this watch and are remotely even thinking about getting it, just do it. You will not be disappointed. I will not use another watch and Garmin has a lifetime customer in me.

I was debating on this watch and the Polar Vantage series watch. Main reason I wanted to Polar was for touch screen, but that was the only good thing about it. Garmin connect app is top notch. It's very useful and connects to MyFitnessPal to automatically calculate calories burned vs consumed. The fact that it uses a heart rate monitor to calculate calories burned means you're getting a more accurate reading than step counting watches. The GPS on it is really accurate too and can help you return back to where you started on trails by following it. It shows your heart rate thru out the day and presents it in a useful graph, it's pretty interesting and helps me reduce stressful situations. I did end up buying a tempered glass screen protector for it since I didn't get the sapphire glass one.

This is a great sport watch first, and a smart watch secondary. I wear it as my daily watch and activity tracker. But the main reason why I bought the Fenix was to use the GPS navigation features for my hikes in dense forest. I also use it to track my gym sessions and on the golf course. The battery life is incredible! On a full charge, I used it on a 6 hour hike with GPS on, never recharged it afterwards, then 2 days later, walked 18 holes. I still had more than 50% power and went another week without charging it. It is spendy, but it replaced 3 other Garmin devises I was using. If you are looking for a smart watch with a vivid screen and smart watch first capabilities, this is not the watch for you. If you want a sport watch, that is a tank, and can track pretty much any sport, this is the watch to get.

I got this watch to replace my Apply Nike Series 2 after the mic would no longer work and it was not measuring my swimming laps correctly. After much research, i decided on the Fenix 5. I didn't want to spend the extra money to get the 5 Plus or 5X. I have had the watch for 4 weeks now and couldn't be happier. It tracks my sleep, runs, hikes, and swims. I charge it about every 14 days, vice charging my Apple watch every night. If you are looking for a great fitness watch, I recommend the Fenix 5 series. If you are looking for a smartwatch, get the Apple Series 4 and just know you will charge it every night.
