This GPS is very easy to use and very accurate. The lifetime maps isa big plus with all the road construction that goes on. Having just moved to a new city this unit has gotten me every place I have entered with no problems.

I used this in Costa Rica and it was great. I used a free map which was good. It always took me the wrong way to my hotel and it would have been nice if it would have "learned" the correct route. It took some getting used to since it would say turn but looking at the map it seemed that the road was further ahead. So when it says to turn it means now.
No matter what, you can't always blindly follow the GPS instructions. You have to know where you are going and use your judgement of where to turn. Use Google Maps first to get an idea of what route it takes you.
Remember that electronic means of navigation on a 2 dimensional map does not comprehend elevation differences. So in a foreign location you have to be aware and not take a route over a mountain on a dirt road, especially in cold or inclimate weather.
GPS is a great backup and a dynamic way to learn where roads go.
I really like the features of storing points of interest and searching for them. I needed gas and didn't know where to go but my GPS took me to a close by station without any problems.
My advice is whenever you are going somewhere new or are in a round-about is to go slow or pull over and analyze the GPS route before committing to a turn if there is any chance it could be wrong.
For a $100 GPS, not only did it save me from renting a GPS for more money, but now I have a GPS just in case I need it or just want to explore it's capabilities. It would be really cool if I could make dynamic changes to the map. I haven't figured out a way to make a route ahead of time, so that it will take me on the roads I want. The nice thing is that if you ignore the turn commands, it will figure out a new route automatically. Then eventually it will get the route you want.
I wonder how the GPS algorithm figures out the route. There was one time it took me on a road that the map showed went through, which didn't, but there were two other roads that I could have taken that would have been better, no matter if the first road would have been a through street.
I liked all the functions of the GPS. It came with everything I needed including a suction mount. Everything worked great and it was really helpful. It is a great aid and tool even though it is not a substitue for thinking and decision making.
I wish the car icon wasn't so big and I wish I would have changed it when it was hooked up to my computer. It would be nice to be able to change the icon on the fly.

We purchased a new Garmin because the updates for our old one cost as much as the new one. We love the layout of this one and the fact that there are more options. However we wish it would have come with some really good instructions for the road settings. We set it for no unpaved roads and shortest distance. Well that thing still threw us on a dirt road and going over a mountain no less! A road that turned into a single lane dirt road with no where to turn around. Saying we were panicked would be a huge understatement! On the way home we set it to fastest route and no unpaved roads. We didn't get put on any so we hope that doesn't happen again.

My son suggested I buy a GPS prior to my first trip to Sheboygan, Wisconsin to visit him. He recommended the same brand I bought. This GPS saved me. I was heading the wrong direction leaving General Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee. The car rental customer service agents did not know how to help me get where I needed to go. Their directions were worthless. Once I figured out how to get the GPS in the right location (for some unknown reason, it defaulted to the state of Illinois) in the state I was in, I typed in my destination adddress and the GPS voice prompt and clear graphics got me exactly where I needed to go. I am SO GLAD I bought this device! I will take it with me and mount it on the windshield for every trip from now on.

(thought I already posted this but they are asking me for a review... sorry if it is a repeat)
We needed a new car and could not afford the packages that included navigation systems. After all the test drives, I found the GPS in them intuitive and wanted one. I bought this on sale with a gift card & points, so the price was right for me.
All of this is not news to regular GPS users or cell phone app people, just me.
I recommend going to the Garmin website and looking at the actual manual before turning it on with the simple-drawing instruction pamphlet included with the device.
My brother had a very old handheld GPS and was impressed at the reception on this device and that it included free Lifetime Map updates.
In using the device, it is eerie seeing exactly how "on the grid" we are. We've had cell phones for years with GPS in them, but actually seeing what lane you are travelling and indicating lane changes to make -even on a long underpass and some tunnels in Boston, was astounding to me. Speed limit tracking, elevation, and I've only just started using it. NOTE: I was NOT driving. I was a passenger watching the device. There is a safe mode setting to prevent drivers from making modifications while the car is in motion.
Cable and Case Recommendations:
The included sync cable is about 19.5 inches from tip to tip. My CPU is on the floor and that short a cable didn't allow me to put the GPS on the desk. The first map sync took over 3 hours on my sluggish connection so having the new GPS sitting on an open desk drawer was not appreciated. There is only a car-jack for charging. I would recommend a longer USB to mini-B cable that can be plugged into the PC for syncing but also into a USB wall charger plug that I already use for my ereaders and cell phone.
After one misstep, I ended up buying a bit bulkier Eddie Bauer case EBWAXG-BLK-000. It zips a bit tight on the corners but because the full zipper length runs half way around the case, it is usable. There is room for the cables in a zip compartment on the other side, a stretchable mesh pocket on the outside, with a convenient wide wrist strap. It is more bulky than a nice slim case, but it is not as large as some more expensive cases, especially some of the hard shell. It did NOT fit in two other cases that said they fit "most" 5 inch devices, one was a Garmin sleeve case Model 010-11793-00 the fit was so tight that my device turned on a couple times when inserted/removed. The Swiss Gear model GA-6315006F00 was also too tight and only zipped along the top. To get the fit right, I ended up in a store. I learned on a product like this, the "interior" measurements online do not necessarily reflect reality when faced with the actual product.

This product is a great basic GPS and easy to use. Just put in the address to where you need to be and the GPS will get you there. It also can help you find places you may need to go in a city like restaurants and hotels. One thing a little confusing for me was that you need to change states in the GPS before you can enter in the location in a new state. I even had to call the support line to find that out. But they were very helpful in solving this problem for me. I would recommend buying this GPS to anyone looking to buy a basic GPS without a lot of frills and one with a decent price.

Garmin in the best, I have had several of their units, they are simple to operate, highly accurate and durable. Disclaimer; I do live in rural Washington State , so not a lot of road construction in my area.

I just needed a basic GPS that gives me clear, understandable directions to get where I'm going. This Garmin does that, and more! It was very easy for someone with limited tech knowledge to set up. The downloads programming of favorite addresses was easy. I really like the split screen feature that shows me the map on the left and the actual exit sign when I'm supposed to get off a major highway! Very helpful! The only thing I miss is when I'm searching for something, it has directions for the restaurants, for example, such as NW or SE. I really preferred the arrows showing which directions from where I was heading something was. But overall, I'm very happy with my Garmin and would recommend it to anyone!

I have four of these units and have found them reliable. They display the time, route and time to destination. Traffic due to gridlock is not accounted for. The units have fallen off the windshield when the suction cup loosens, but they haven't broken. You update the unit through a computer.
Speed limits on I95 off in some places (by 5 MPH too low) and occasionally it takes you to a store that no longer exists. For some reason the unit will take you the long way, but it still gets you there. Takes some worry out of getting lost.
Best thing is the unit displays the speed limit and your speed. In Florida, where the police focus on speed traps, this is a great addition.
Nice unit, fair price.

I recently moved from Utah to Oklahoma. I bought this GPS unit to help me get there. It worked great for my purposes. It is pretty easy to use and includes sufficient features for my needs. The screen size was just right to see the display, but not so large it became a distraction to the driver. Now, I use this GPS nearly everyday to help me get around the Oklahoma City area.

The price is quite low and features approach those of a much more loaded Nuvi 2460 that I own. Basically, the same features minus traffic alert and wall plug charger. I think the charger issue could become a big deal in the future as the battery ages and one tries to do map updates. The updates can be time consuming and I notice that on my 2460 the charge does not last long. But I have the charger so no problem. I suggest either getting a more feature filled unit (with charger) or buy a separate charger from Garmin. But come to think of it, the traffic feature on the 2460 is really cool and it has saved my bacon a number of times. Hey! What the heck, spend the extra bucks, but if you don't want to the 52LM should still get you nicely to Grandma's house.

Thus far, this GPS has been very easy to use. The screen is larger than most for easier viewing, the color contrast is nice and sharp, and the updates are lifetime free. The technology features are impressive as there are added features like providing the remaining miles and similarity to "picture within picture". We have used this item and so far with accuracy. We hope to enjoy it for years to come.
