      Hello Pamela - this is Nancy at GE. We're sorry to hear that your new GE over-the-range microwave is not venting well. The microwave vent system should remove most heat, steam, and smoke from the cooktop. However, if you are boiling or simmering for long periods of time on the front burners, the vent will not always be capable of capturing all of the excess steam, so it may be necessary to use the back burners in this case. To check the vent, place a tissue flat in your hand. Turn the microwave vent on "high". Place the tissue flat against the vent on the bottom of the microwave and remove your hand. If the vent holds the tissue, then the microwave is venting properly. If it is not holding the tissue, you may want to verify that the unit was vented properly when it was installed.
