We replaced a Jenn-Air downdraft that was original to our 1980's home. We needed a downdraft again and this fit the bill. I wanted the knobs in the middle like we were used to. This unit works great so far and has a very powerful fan. Heats up fast and we love the bridge burner and the rapid boil is nice but only works for large size pots which I wish we had known about. All in all good but we've only had it a few weeks so unsure of long term reliability.

    Great cooktop, installation nightmare!

We purchased this cooktop to replace a GE "Select top" downdraft cooktop (like a Jenn-Aire) that was 13 yrs old. Since it was a "replacement" I decided to install it my self. Bad decision on my part. The only good news was that the hole size in the counter was exactly the same, so the new unit dropped in (good thing since the counter is granite). Now the fun part. The blower outlet is 6+ in lower, which required a custom fabricated duct adapter (thanks to Pressley Metal Services in Bradenton FL). Also, the attachment location for the electrical hookup is higher (longer wires). My only recommendation is to have someone else install it!!! The cooktop looks great with several new features and works as expected, so far.

    Great Electric Cooktop

I love my new electric cooktop. I made the mistake of getting a white one years ago and it showed all of the dirt, spills, black burns and required a lot of cleaning. This black one was what I should have bought years ago. It cleans up much easier and looks much nicer than the white one with the burn marks. I am learning.

Finding stoves to fit the space in my countertop was difficult. I was thrilled to find a well rated one. I loved this stove! If you follow instructions - clean first with the recommended cleaner before first cook - it cleans easily thereafter. This stove boils and sautes as well as most gas stoves I've used. The melt setting and the heat bridge work beautifully!

Overall this is a nice cooktop, I am a little disappointed in the fact we are unable to get the downdraft connected due to the fact this is a replacement unit to a unit that had a round outlet to the downdraft vs. the rectangle one on this unit. We have tried several "boots" but none have worked. Probably best as an initial install and not as a replacement with the downdraft.

glass top cracks easily - twice in 6 years

Glass cracked twice in less than 6 years. The repair from the first time was done by GE Appliance Repair and they have a 5-year warranty on parts so I hope they will replace the main top free of charge for the part. It sucks that this part costs over $600. Friends, be VERY careful not to drop things on it or smack with any kitchen utensils, especially along the edge which is very thin and unprotected.

Limited products in downdraft stove top, so they are expensive overall, but this one fit the bill nicely at a reasonable price point in comparison. The Best Buy ordering and delivery experience was top notch and efficient and we continue to have great transactions with them for appliance/technology purchases.

This cook top is well designed with Usability in mind. Right bottom burner is the biggest burner of all is placed at the outer edge for right handy that do main cooking with big pot or heavy pan. Smaller burners are inside or placed on the left out of the way. Left burners can bridge to create big oval burner for hibachi style cooking. Plus right burner can be adjusted to turn on just for small burner or big burner. I think I have made the right decision.

Looks great. Works great. Ran into issues with a competitor (some mid-west state name). Remembered some great appliance service we had from Best Buy in the past. Went back to Best Buy. They recommended this cooktop as it would fit the existing hole in the granite. Had Best Buy install (another great experience).

A 30” island electric cooktop with a downdraft needed replacing, and I soon learned to add an overhead updraft or run gas lines to the island was simply too expensive, so I opted to just replace the old GE Profile with a new GE Profile. The new fit perfectly in existing countertop hole, but we did discover the need to purchase a 3 1/4x10” rectangle to 6” round transition duct (available at Grainger or by mail order at Home Depot). I Have not used, yet but it looks like I can use 12” wide pans as the glasstop is smooth unlike the prior model with edges that restricted my use to 10” max.

Very, Very, and Very Disappointed Purchase

Bought new to replace my cracked original one (non GE) installed by builder over a decade ago. It took GE Appliance service technicians / product engineers more than 6 months, countless trips, plus my time off to accommodate what turned out to be ridiculously "major repairs of a brand new unit". They attempted in vain with replacements of all four burners including elements and controllers - essentially everything except the glass top. GEA declined my request to simply exchange the defective unit that could have most likely cost them much less, let alone all the frustrations and inconveniences it caused my family (without home-cooked meals for half a year). They finally gave up their repair attempts by their own techs, and sent in a third-party service tech (kind like an arbitrator) who managed to finish the repairs (replaced twice a faulty controller plus redo the wirings connected wrong by GEA techs) and get it to work... GEA seems to have a long way to go to improve its customer care and service staff's technical competences.

Hello DXTX, thank you for your review. We are sincerely sorry your cooktop required multiple service appointments since its installation. We understand how that would be frustrating and would love to hear from you how we can make your experience with our products better as this is not the ownership experience we strive for. If you would like to reach out to us about your issue further, please don’t hesitate to do so via the "Contact Us" link on our website. Thank you for choosing GE Appliances. -Chris@GEA GE_Appliances

This stove heats quickly and has a strong downdraft. Cleanup is similar to other ceramic cooktops in that there seems to be a residual on the stove after cooking that is difficult to get off.

    Great glass cook top

We replaced a lower model GE Profile cook top with this stainless steel model. The reason we went with the stainless steel is that the old one was about 30 years old and the glass finally cracked. I am hoping that the stainless steel at the end will help prevent the glass from cracking as easy. I didn't realize how badly the old cook top heated up until I got the new one installed by Best Buy. The company that BestBuy hired, did a great job on carefully removing and installing the new unit. The best part of the new cook top is the Power Boil feature. It really does boil the water much faster than the old unit. The biggest downfall about this unit is that it gets dirty very easily and you have to keep up with cleaning it more often than a gas cook top. If you have the option to go gas or electric, I would choose gas downdraft units. I did look into converting from electric to gas but the estimates I got from contractors, just didn't make financial sense, so I am stuck with electric cook top until it cracks again.
