We recommend descaling and sanitizing your Opal as directed in the Owner's Manual at least every 4 weeks or sooner depending on the hardness of your water. Also, it's important to clean the rear air filter every 2 months. The Owner's Manual is available online by clicking on the Features tab and scrolling to the end of the Features list. Sadly this quit working in day 2…the noise coming from this machine was horrendous! We returned it and are still looking for another option to purchase.

Really pleased with this product recently had a new air 42# machine this unit was a piece of dodo they where good for about 6 months before started leaking after 3rd replacement I purchase the ge profile what a great unit

I love this item, however, it won't last longer than 2 years so buy the extended warranty!

I PURCHASE THIS ICE MAKER ON FEB 9TH 2025 AND I HAVE SANITIZIED THE MACHINE 9 TIMES AND THIS IS APRIL 8TH BEST BUY IS SHIPPING ME A REPLACEMENT.

Sanitize and Descale lights stay on after performing those processes.
We'd like to help you with your Opal's sanitize and descale lights being active after cleaning your unit. We recommend performing an electronic reset by unplugging the appliance for 3 to 4 hours and plug it back in.

Stopped making ice after 9 months. Unit was used in a small office space, and because of the commercial application, GE refused to honor the warranty. Best Buy Total Protection doesn't start until the GE warranty expires. Very disappointing - both in product performance, or lack thereof, and also either company standing behind the products they sell.

High Hopes Dashed

I had such high hopes for this! Got it refurbished, so it may be a one-off, but it ran wonderfully for about 4 days, I even bought the extended tank I loved it so much! Then it wouldn't make ice. Kept saying add water. I'd drain then it would say making ice, but no ice. Then "add water again" when it was full! Avoid this is my recommendation.

Started making very loud squealing sound within only 2 days of use. Tried all fixes found online and nothing worked. Also made more of a slush than nugget ice. Returned.

I have had this for 2 months and all it does is make load screeching noise
When Opal is in need of defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and may take 10 to 45 minutes. More frequent squeaking usually requires white vinegar cleaning to remove internal mineral scale buildup. Missing piece to order. Best Buy took 6 weeks to begin to act in my issue. Still not resolved. This review only has to do with the customer service. Already owned this item (which broke) that encouraged my re-purchase of this item.

After a year and a half and 4 different machines. I can tell you the quality of the machine is horrible. It will not last. From squeeling all the time from the beginning of ownership to sensor and even wifi issues this thing has it all. Does make great ice but be sure to keep a good warrenty cause you will be let down. Swapped mine a week ago that just quit working all together and even upgraded to the newest model. Day 1 wifi wouldnt setup (only nice for scheduling). I overlooked that just to get making ice. 1 week later its quite working and has the dreaded "add water" issue. I'm done
